Our BITE is worse than our bark!
Whatever good things we build......
End up building us! Congratulations to the 8u Rattlers on their victory this past Sunday over the Plainfield Plainfield Edge Warriors to capture the I-80 8U Championship. Great job boys! Let's here it for our 12U Rattlers as they head to Cooperstown, NY this week. You can follow them from home via a daily blog. Good Luck and safe journey boys! COOPERSTOWN REPORT-RATTLERS MAKE THE FINAL 8!!!!!!
Well, we have arrived. Some of us a little worse for the wear after missed flights, changed flights and driving through storms similar to an episode of storm chasers. After the opening ceremonies today, it was all worth it. We got to watch the boys parade onto the field and all the hardships of the travel were forgotten. The skills competition was fantastic and a lot of fun for all. We are all praying for the rain to hold off so that we can get down to business and play some games. First up tomorrow, the team from Chatham, NJ. That's all for now.
Day2- Woke up to a lot of fog. Early game today at 9 am against Chatham, NJ. Great game, pitching was stellar and we all hit like crazy. Took the game 11-5.The second game was not so easy. Took on Central Valley Braves from CA. A lot tougher team that got up on us 6-0 pretty quick. Some errors, some good hitting by the opponent lead to a 13-5 loss by the Rattlers.
From there we all moved on to the Hall of Fame and a night in town. Tomorrow's another early day so that's all for now!
Day 3- We started off on the slow side today, trading off runs with the Indy Bats. Things did not look good going into the 5th with the score 3-5 but with 3up 3down in the hands of Jordo, we were quickly into the bottom of the 5th with some signs of life. Fetch hit a screaming double into the outfield. You could tell Indy was frazzled with the tying run coming up to the plate. Guess what, none other than the Big Kahuna himself (Alvin Perez). With the count 2-2, he connected for a 2run HR bomb that hit the scoreboard in right field. It was a whole new ball game then. Things remained 5-5 through the 6th and with 5 minutes left in regulation, we went into the 7th. With Big K coming in to close, there were a couple that got past into the outfield and Indy was up by 2 going into the bottom of the 7th. This is where the boys shined. Some well placed hits and they had men on 2nd and 3rd with a score of 6-7 and 1 out. Yes, you could have predicted this for Indy, the Big K was at the plate. So an intentional walk of Big K made the bases loaded and Danimal at the plate. In true Rattler fashion, he connects for a screamer into the outfield to bring home the win for the good guys. 2nd game is up at 4:30 so that's all for now.
The boys made quick work of their second game against the Maryland Monarchs with some hot bats, including a well placed bunt by Jake "J" Carlsen and a 3 run HR by Dylan "D" Shew. Next up tomorrow - the team from Utah on the Green Monster field. Let's hope we can all come home with a green shirt!
Day 4 was a crazy day. It started off on the green monster at 12:30 against Utah and the boys went up 2-0 in the top of the first thanks to a 2 run HR by the Big Kahuna. Then they fell to 2-3 and were in the top of the 2nd with 1 man on and the heavens opened up and dumped a tremendous amount of rain. They didn't resume play in this game until 4:15 and were told all games were cut ot 4 innings. The Rattlers ended up losing this one 7-2. Next up was the team from Evanston at 6:15 with another 4 inning game. It started off for the Rattlers with a solo HR by none other than the Big Kahuna. Then it was a base clearing grand slam by Ryan Gulden that put the game out of reach for Evanston. With a stellar perfect game pitched by Jordo the Rattlers were awaiting the final results of all games to see where they stood with their 4-2 record in pool play.
Day 5-Word came late last night that the Rattlers had secured the 7th seed and a bye in the first round of competition today. They will take on the winner of 10th vs 23rd at 2pm today to see if they can get into the semi's. That's all for now!
The Rattlers met the Maryland Monarchs in their first playoff game and made quick work at the hands of Dylan Shew, Alvin Perez and Luke the "Fetch" Fetchko. They defeated Maryland 11-2 to make it into the final 8. Next up is the winner of Channahon Indians vs Central Valley, CA.
Well, the Rattlers run in Cooperstown has come to an end at the hands of the Central Valley, CA Braves. They will bring home 5th place and we are all very proud of their performance here. A lot of fun, a lot of HR's and definitely a lot of great baseball. Thank You to the young men of 12U!!! You have made us truly proud. 9U 2009 season accomplishments!
