Mustang offense explodes scoring 9 goals!
The Lady Mustangs were on a mission to begin a new winning steak. They made this possible after the offense exploded scoring 9 goals. For the Stangs it was Megan Kehoe, Tera Koebel, and Katie Peterson scoring 2 goals a piece. Jessica Jersey, Victoria Kirk, and Kayla Jackson each notched a goal. Getting assists were Katie Peterson with 2, Megan Kehoe with 2, and Kayla Schmidt adding to her goal with an assist. The Stangs scored early and often putting a lot of pressure on the Michigan Lutheran defense. The Mustangs are now 2-0 against the Titans who are a possible district match up at the end of the month. The win improves the Mustangs record to 8-7. The Stangs have now won 5 of their last 6 games. Up next will be Granger Christian.

Mustang winning steak snaped by undefeated Brandywine
The Mustangs have not had much luck against Brandywine this season. In tonights game the Mustangs for the second time in three appearances went up quickly on the Bobcats scoring early. In this the third match up, it was Tera Koebel who scored off a quick set play passed and assisted by Megan Kehoe. Despite the early lead and offensive chances, Brandywine slowly gained confidence which turned into goals. To end the first half Brandywine had come back taking a 3-1 lead into halftime. In the second half neither team had many good scoring chances, both defenses played well. Unfortunately Brandywine came away with a 3-1 victory, their third over the Stangs this season. The win continues Brandywines quest for an undefeated season. With the loss the Mustangs fall to 7-7 on the season.

Mustangs make easy work against rival Bridgman!
In a game that featured a lot of wind and a ton of rain. It also featured the Lady Mustangs dominate cross town rival Bridgman. The Bee's only had one shot in the game compared to the Mustangs 25. One bright spot for the bee's was the play of their goalkeeper who had several saves. The mustangs dominated the match winning 3-0. The win is the 4th straight for the Stangs and the 5th shutout of the year (3rd in a row). Scoring for the Mustangs were Katie Peterson, Emma Kautzky, and Chelsey Schmidt. Katie Peterson and Megan Kehoe each had an assist in the match. The Mustangs victory puts the Stangs at 7-6 on the season. The Mustangs will host Bridgman in the last regular season game of the year (senior night). The Mustangs will next host the undefeated Brandywine Bobcats.

Mustang Girls Make It Three In a Row

Katie Peterson notched her 3rd hat trick of the season scoring 3 goals while Tera Koebel knocked in 2, and Ingrid Stein scored her first of the year. Katie Peterson added 2 assists in the game, Chelsey Schmidt, and Jessica Kersey also added an assist each. The win brings the Mustangs back to the 500 mark at 6-6.

    Mustangs Win Conference Thriller
The Mustangs Varsity girls soccer team played a game that will go down as a classic. With just 1:28 remaining in the match Katie Peterson kicked in a penalty kick to beat Buchanan 1-0. Peterson was given the Penalty kick after Tera Koebel sent a great ball to Peterson who was off on a breakaway. With no other choice a chasing Buchanan defender slide tackled Peterson from behind forcing the to call a penalty kick. The Bucks keeper got a hand on the penalty shot but the ball deflected into the far corner. This was a very exiting match where both teams played with all their effort both offensively and defensively. Each team was robed of at lest a couple goals by the opposing teams goalkeeper. River Valley Goalie Ashley Kuntz did just that making an outstanding save with under 4 minutes remaining. The weather was rainy and windy. Kuntz's save was an outside shot that was heading to the far upper corner of the goal. Kuntz timed her jump perfectly with a possibly game saving stop. Buchanan's goalie also was very solid shutting down the Mustangs on several shots. The Mustangs defense, Liz Milliken, Mindy Payne, Sarah Smith, Shelby Francis, and Ashley Kuntz came up with the teams 3rd shutout of the season. The Mustangs win gives them two in a row improving their record to 5-6.

The Mustangs bounce back beat the Titans
The Mustangs bounced back in a big way ending their 3 game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over the Michigan Lutheran Titans. Michigan Lutheran is a possible district match up for the Stangs. The Mustangs needed to come out and play well which they did. The Stangs dominated the game with 30 shots. Katie Peterson recorded her second hat trick of the season scoring 3 goals while Tera Koebel added the Stangs final goal of the game. Ingrid Stein and Shelby Francis added assists in the game. With the win the Mustangs improve to 4-6 on the season

Mustangs drop two at Dowagiac Tournament
The Mustangs left Dowagiac disappointed after losing two games. The Stangs had won the Dowagiac invitational 3 years in a row but this would not be the fourth. The Mustangs first lost to Dowagiac 3-1. Later the Mustangs lost to the tournament champions, Niles 2-0. With the lose the Mustangs fall to a season low 3 games below 500 3-6. Katie Peterson scored the Mustangs lone goal with an assist from Chelsey Schmidt.

Mustangs lose physical game against Edwardsburg
The Mustangs dropped a physical game to the Edwardsburg Eddies 2-0. Despite losing the game, the Stangs out shot Edwardsburg. The Mustangs struggled to finish on their opportunities while the Eddies walked away with a 2-0 victory. The loss puts the Stangs at 3-4 on the season.

Hats off to the Mustangs as the Stangs beat Fennville with two players scoring hat tricks

The Lady Mustangs did not play a game last season before spring break. This year the Stags are finishing off play before the spring break competing in their 6th game of the year. The Mustangs playing in only their second home match of the season hosted visiting Fenville. The Stangs were eager to get on the board and that they did early off the foot of Katie Peterson to put the Mustangs up 1-0 from an assist from Shelby Frances. Not long later Katie Peterson did it again putting the Mustangs up 2-0 with an assist from Ingrid Stein. Tera Koeble decided to put her name in the score book putting the Mustangs up 3-0. Fenville never gave up giving a lot of effort. This led to receiving a free kick which the Bulldogs were able to place off the post and into the Stangs goal. The score remained 3-1 into halftime. In the second half Tera Koeble notched her second goal of the game putting the Mustangs up 4-1. The score went to 5-1 after Katie Peterson notched her first hat trick of the year scoring her third goal of the game. Tera Koeble matched Peterson getting her third goal of the game and her first hat trick of the season. The Mustags walked away with a 6-1 win heading into spring break. The Mustangs win puts their record at 3-3 on the season.

Mustags open up conference play against Bradywine

Brandywine has become a quick rival of the River Valley womens soccer team. Both teams have competed several times the past two seasons in big games. Last year both squads met up in the MHSAA district finals, while most recently pairing up to open the season at the Vandenburg tournament. Unfortunately for the Stangs Brandywine won the early season match 4-1. Todays game was hosted by Brandywine but played at Niles high school. The weather was not the best for either team as it was raining, windy, and cold. Brandywine had the advantage of the wind to their back in the first half. The Bobcats used this to their advantage getting off several shots. Only one reached the back of the net. The goal came off a shot that was chipped up high in the air hanging up long enough to get by the Mustangs goalie Ashley Kuntz. The Mustangs did muster up some offense in the early going as Megan Kehoe took a long shot which skipped in front of the goal and nearly through the arms of the Brandywine keeper. The tide changed in the second half as the Mustangs had the wind to their back. The Stangs began to control the game taking several shots. In between Brandywine capitalize on one of their few second half offensive chances scoring on a perfectly placed ball. Brandywine took a 2-0 lead. The Mustangs continued to put pressure on the Bobcats defense nearly missing the goal. Finally Megan Kehoe came through with a long shot which sailed through the air into the top corner of the goal. Unfortunately the goal came too late as the Stangs could not put in the tying goal. The Mustangs did play much better than the teams first meeting and positives can be taken away into the Stangs next game. The Mustangs will host Brandywine later in the season. With the loss the Mustangs fall to 2-3 on the season

Mustangs face difficult possible District match up against LMC Lakers

The Mustangs headed to Lake Michigan Catholic knowing they would have a game on their hands. The Stangs defeated LMC last season in the district semi finals and LMC came into this season returning nearly its entire team while adding talented players. With the Lakers being a possible district match up the Stangs wanted to play a strong game. Though it is very early in the season the Stangs wanted to prove they could beat a strong LMC team. In the first half both teams battled back and forth. Each squad had some scoring chances but either missed off target or was denied by the opposing keeper. The game was 0-0 at halftime. In the opening minutes of the second half LMC came out very aggressive offensively. The Mustangs nearly escaped some Lakers offensive scoring opportunities. With the Lakers aggressive offense the Mustangs were able to counter attack and Katie Peterson received a pass from Megan Kehoe she could not refuse. Peterson took a shoot from about 18 yards out into the side netting. This put the Stangs up 1-0. The rest of the game was nail biting as each team had scoring chances, including some shots off the post and a break away shut down. In the end both teams played with all they had but it were the Mustangs who were able to walk away with a 1-0 victory. The Mustangs win improves their record to 2-2.

Mustangs face tough St. Joe Bears in season opener.

The most difficult part of the Mustangs schedule happens to be early on  this season. The advantage is that the Stangs will be tested often. The Mustangs biggest test of the season will probably be against the Division 2 St. Joe Bears. The Bears come into this season as strong favorite to compete in their conference and advance through districts. When you’re a Division 4 team such as the Mustangs to get respect you need to earn it by playing against larger schools. The Mustangs came out ready to play and looked to surprise the visiting Bears. That the Stangs did scoring mid way through the first half taking a 1-0 lead off a goal from Katie Peterson. The Mustangs carried the lead nearly the entire half. Unfortunately for the Stangs the Bears put together some instant offense in the final 5 minutes of the half scoring 2 goals putting them ahead 2-1 at halftime. The Bears wore down the Mustangs in the second half. The stangs did nearly tie up the game as Tera Koeble lofted a shot just in reach of the St. Joe goalie. The Bears made up most the second half offense walking away with a 6-1 win. Despite the loss The Mustangs hung strong against a very talented St. Joe team who returned their entire team from last season. The Stangs fell to 1-2 on the season.

Mustangs open up season placing 3rd in Vandenburg Tournament

The River Valley Mustang Girls soccer team began its season participating in the Vandenberg Tournament, hosted at Niles high school. The Mustangs first opponent were the Brandywine Bobcats. The Stangs lost to Brandywine last season in the district finals. The game started out well for the Mustangs who controlled most of the game. The Stangs good play resulted in scoring the only first half goal from Jessica Kersey with Katie Peterson getting the assists. Going into the second half the Stangs held a 1-0 advantage. Brandywine did their part in making sure the Mustangs did not lead for long scoring early. Brandywine did not stop there, knocking in three more stunning the Mustangs losing 4-1.  Despite losing after playing a disappointing second half the Stangs had little time to keep their head down as the Buchanan Bucks were up next. Buchanan came into the game after losing a heart breaker in a shootout to Niles. The Mustangs impressively were able to gather themselves together and come out very strong against the Bucks. The Stangs controlled most of the game coming out on top with a 3-0 win. Katie Peterson scored two goals while Chelsey Schmidt finished off the Mustang scoring. Goalie Ashley Kuntz and sweeper Liz Milliken led the defense to their first shutout of the season. Brandywine ended up winning the tournament beating Niles in a shootout.

Mustangs Boys beat get revenge and beat Cass in the 3rd round Conference Tournament play.
The Mustangs beat Cass 2-1 in a game that came down to the final seconds of play. The Stangs were the first team to get on the scoreboard after Sr Captain Vinnie Bagget sent a perfect cross over the Rangers Goalkeeper to the far post where Charlie Trout was rushing in to score the goal. The game remained 1-0 heading into halftime. As the second half began the Rangers began to apply steady pressure on the Mustangs defense. Cass was finally able to capitalize scoring on a free kick 10 yards out to even the score 1-1. The Mustangs would not keep their heads down scoring just minutes later after a cross from Sr John Mcmullin reached Joey Schedler in front for the Stangs go ahead goal. With the score 2-1 Cass went all out attacking the Mustangs. Cass was able to get several shots off but the Mustangs defense held strong. Goalie Beck Williamson also had several key saves denying a stunned Rangers team. The Mustangs in need of getting the ball into Cass's half of the field did just that in the games final 5 minutes. Charlie Trout nearly scored his second goal of the game after hitting the post. John Mcmullin and Andrew Freehling also were able to get some dangerous shots. In the end the Mustangs came away with emotionally charged victory 2-1.
The Mustangs next face Cass once again at Cass for the opening round of district play Monday 4:30 game time!!!

Post season awards are all in and the Mustangs have two players named to the All State Team
Congratulations go out to Amanda Dudiak who was selected 2nd Team All State. Amanda was All State Honorable Mention her sophomore season and 3rd Team All State her Junior year. Amanda will leave the Mustangs as a four year starter and the Lakeland Conferences All Time Leading scorer. Amanda finished with a career 72 goals and will look to score plenty more as she goes on to play Soccer at Cornerstone University.

Congratulations also go out to senior Jodi Grandholm who becomes the third all time Lady Mustang to receive All State honors. Jodi joins the club with 07 graduate Kali Lauzon and was selected All State Honorable Mention. Jodi was also a four year starter and will be heading to Cornerstone University to play both Volleyball and Basketball.

Amanda Dudiak 2nd Team All State 08 Graduate who also left as the Lady Mustangs All time leading scorer with (72 goals) and the most in a season (26) was chosen to the Michigan All Star Girls Team.

Unfortunately for Dudiak and the Michigan All Stars, their tournament was short lived as they fell 1-0 in a heated battle. Dudiak appeared to have evened the score up but the goal was taken away after an offsides call.

For Josh Gibson and the Boys All Star Team, their tournament continues as they won in the first round 2-0. Gibson scored for Michigan and had several other close scoring chances. Gibson is the first River Valley player to score in a Sports fest Contest. The Michigan Boys team now moves on the finals.

The Mustang Girls surprise many and continue winning ways in 2008
Many thought the Mustangs girls soccer team would stumble after 3 consecutive winning seasons, including back to back Lakeland Conference Championships (06,07) The Mustangs finished the 2007 with a final record of 17-4-1 losing a hard fought game in the district finals. Despite not advancing to regionals the senior heavy Stangs ended the year voted by the coach's as a State Ranked honorable mention team. To some the Mustangs losing 7 senior starters and 10 seniors overall would result in a the Stangs being a weak team in the 08 Season. Their where many question marks about who would fill the cleats of the past players who played so well. This was especially true on defense where the Mustangs lost 4 players one of which being their goalie Jordan Cronin. Each of the defenders had received all conference or all district honors. The Mustangs responded by filling those shoes with two freshmen outside defenders and a new goalie Jr Ashley Kuntz who had no prior keeper experience. Other returning starters had to be adjusted around the line up into new positions. The Mustangs still needed to find a replacement for their graduated All State forward Kali Lauzon and her 20 plus goals. Freshman Katie Peterson, and Chelsey Schmidt's addition helped to fill the large void. All the returners had to step up and that they did. The Stangs had 8 Freshman come out to for the team nearly equaling half the roster. With all this being said the Mustangs did not use the loss of their seniors from the previous season to be an excuse. In fact they would not even call it a rebuilding year. The Mustangs had the goal from day one to compete for the conference but ultimately gell as a team and get their shot at winning districts. The Mustangs did all this and more finishing another winning season with a record of 11-7-1. The Mustangs showed their growth by going 5-1-1 in the final 7 games. Despite losing in the District finals to a very talented Brandywine team the Mustangs surprised many gelling into a team that gave Brandywine all they could handle. The Mustangs will be losing All time leading scorer Amanda Dudiak, and another 4 year starter in Jodi Grandholm. Also graduating is Jennica Miles who played two season for the Mustangs and came on strong to end this past season after coming back from a broken leg. Dudiak will move on to play soccer at Cornerstone University being the Mustangs 4th player to be currently playing in the college ranks. These girls will not only be missed by their very special talents, but more importantly for their leadership and dedication to this program which began with them. Good to the seniors and we promise to build off this season and give everything we have in 2009.

Mustangs get revenge moving on to the District Finals!!!
For the second season in a row the Mustangs will be playing in the District Finals. Last season the senior heavy Stangs faced the Bee's. This year it will be the Brandywine Bobcats the Mustangs square off against. To get to the Finals the Stangs first had to defeat the Lake Michigan Catholic Lakers. The Mustangs had revenge on their minds as LMC had won the previous match up this season 1-0. I did not take long for River Valley to display the improvement they have made since the last meeting. The Stangs dominated the first half aggressively putting pressure on the Lakers defense. The Mustangs first got on the board after Amanda Dudiak riffled a shot that was deflected by the LMC keeper and later onto the foot of Tera Koeble who put the River Valley up 1-0. The Mustangs later gave themselves a two goal advantage as the recent offense powerhouse Jodi Grandholm placed a free kick perfectly over the goal keeper and into the back of the net making the score 2-0. To make things even more difficult Tera Koeble came through once again, this time using her head to put the Stangs up 3-0. The Mustangs nearly were up 4-0 but had a goal taken away do to a handball call. The score remained 3-0 heading into halftime. To begin the Second half the Stangs picked up where they left off. The Mustangs throughout the entire half had several scoring opportunity, but could not get the ball past the LMC keeper. The Stangs looked impressive but the score would not reflect their second half offensive pressure. Despite the Mustangs offense LMC would make things interesting. The Lakers took away a shutout opportunity after scoring off a Penalty kick. The goal gave LMC hope which was evident in the Lakers more intense play. LMC had a couple nice scoring chances after making the score 3-1 but were running out of time. With 42 seconds remaining LMC would not go away and took advantage of a Mustangs defense breakdown to move the score to 3-2. River Valley would not allow the Lakers a shot in the remaining seconds of the game winning by only by one goal 3-2. Although the Mustangs walked away with a one goal victory the game was for the most part dominated by the Stangs. The Mustangs can use this contest as a learning experience that no lead in game is safe. The LMC Lakers never gave up and had a very good season with a young roster. The win for the Mustangs gives them a 6 game unbeaten streak with a record of 11-6-1. River Valley now seeks revenge on Brandywine who beat the Stangs twice the season.

Two more Mustangs playing at the college level!!!

Mustangs beat Granger and end regular season going 4-0-1 in last five games.

The Mustangs visited Granger Christian whom just a week earlier the were able to beat 6-2. Today the Mustangs played well enough in the first 40 minutes to score at least 6 goals. The managed to get 24 first half shots off but could only finish on one to give them a 1-0 halftime lead. It was Jodi Grandholm who once again continued her scoring ways putting in the lone goal which was assisted by Megan Kehoe. The Mustangs defense was strong only allowing one first half shot. In the second half the Mustangs would once again come out very strong and pepper the Granger goal with shots but could not finish. After dodging several bullets Granger found some momentum and began to show an offensive burst. Granger used this to beat the Mustangs defense and finish on a breakaway to even the score 1-1. The Mustangs came right back and had many chances to score before finally Tera Koeble sent a great pass in front of the Granger goal to a crashing Kati Peterson who one touched the ball into the net. Granger would not go down easy as they played very offensive in the games final ten minutes. River Valley's keeper Ashley Kuntz came up big making some big saves while preserving the 2-1 victory. The Mustangs shot 41 times in the game compared to Granger's 10. The Mustangs really had to work to get the lead back but found a way to come up big and get the victory. The Stangs finish the regular season at 10-6-1. After losing several players to graduation, including 7 starters. Many thought the Mustangs would have a down season. Instead the players worked hard, dedicated themselves and continued to grow with each game. Now the Mustangs have districts a head of them where they will attempt to show even more growth opening up against LMC who beat the Mustangs earlier in the year 1-0.

Mustangs continue winning ways and like the spring showing growth
After a playing another intense game against Bridgman the Mustangs looked to close out the final week of the regular season with a few more wins. First the Stangs traveled to Michigan Lutheran whom they beat 7-0 earlier in the season. Today would be much of the same scoring wise but the Mustangs passed and moved the ball impressively. The Stangs focused on staying in position and using the outside players instead of forcing things down the middle of the field. This was very evident as the Mustangs attempted to put several passes together including switching the ball. It did not take long for the Mustangs to get on the board as Jodi Grandholm scored on a highlight worthy shot. The score on a corner kick that deflected of Jodi and the near post. Jodi then deflected the ball backwards high into the air and into the goal. The goal put the Mustangs up 1-0. The Mustangs would later score on a well placed outside shot from Amanda Dudiak assisted by Jodi Grandholm putting the Mustangs up 2-0. Dudiak added an assist to go along with her first half goal sending a great through ball to Kati Peterson who took the breakaway and placed a nice shot on net giving the Mustangs a 3-0 lead. Kuntz did recorded 3 first half saves. In the second half Kati Oldenburg would replace Kuntz in net. The Mustangs offense would not be replaced as the goals kept coming. Megan Kehoe recorded her second assist of the game on a cross to Jodi Grandholm who timed the kick perfect with a powerful header into the goal giving the Mustangs a 4-0 lead. In all the Mustangs finished with a 7-1 victory. The Stangs win now gives them a 9-6-1 record.

Before what has become the schools biggest rivalry game. The Mustangs honored their three seniors on the class of 2008 senior night. Seniors Amanda Dudiak and Jodi Grandholm were honored as the first two players to have played all four of their years in the Mustangs Girls Varsity Program history. Jennica Miles was the third Senior who is in her second year playing soccer for the Mustangs. Each has enjoyed the success of winning conference titles, being state ranked, and individually receiving post season honors. With all that aside and still the most import part of the season ahead (Districts). The Mustangs and the Bees who have several seniors battled it out possibly for the final time this season. (Their is a chance the Bees and Stangs could meet in the District finals if each team wins their 1st and 2nd round games) With the stands full and the lights turned on the Mustangs hoped to once again defeat Bridgman as they did earlier in the season 2-1. The Stangs looked to be well on track to do so as Senior Jennica Miles scored her first career goal just minutes into the game. The goal was assisted by Megan Kehoe. After taking the 1-0 lead the Mustangs did not take much time to attempt and score their second goal. This time it was two freshmen who combined to nearly put in the Stangs second goal. Kati Peterson fired a rocket shot that surprised the Bridgman keeper who used her hands and face to deflect the ball of the crossbar right to the feet of Ingrid Stein who could not settle the ball in time to put the ball in the net. Bridgman was not going to surrender and actually stool the thunder from the Mustangs for much of the 1st half. The Bees pressured the Mustangs defense on several occasions but Ashley Kuntz held up strong in net. It was not until 36 second remained in the half when the Mustangs could not dodge a Bridgman shot. Off a throw in the Bees found an open Bachleda who impressively used her left foot from around 25 yards out right into the back of the River Valley net. It was a great shot but the Mustangs knew going into the game they could not leave her open. They learned that lesson in the teams previous meeting when Bachleda scored on a long shot. The Bees took this momentum with them into the halftime with score 1-1. The second half was a battle of adjustments as both teams looked to find away to get the go ahead goal. Each team had their chances but either missed or were denied by the opposing goal keeper. The Mustangs would however get the games final opportunity. In the last ten seconds Amanda Dudiak streaked down the sideline and set up to take a shot. Bridgman keeper braced herself and deflected the ball out in front of her. She then dove on top of the ball as Tera Koeble ran in to try and score on the rebound. The horn sounded and once again these two teams played to a nail bitting finishing. In fact in the four seasons these teams have played thus far (Which stands at 9) Every single game has been determined by one goal with the exception of one. That was a regular season game last year where the Mustangs won 3-0.  The Mustangs hold the overall advantage in all games played winning 5 games tyeing 3 and losing 1. If the cards fall the right way the Stangs and Bees could meet once again in a rematch of last years district championship. The Mustangs are now 2-0-1 in their last three games and 8-6-1 overall.

Mustangs and Bucks play an intense, wild game.
The last time these two teams matched up River Valley had lost its first two conference games and had to travel to Buchanan to turn the tide. That the Mustangs did winning 3-1 in what was a back and forth game. With the regular season now coming to a close the Bucks have shown a lot of growth as have the Mustangs. It was evident in the early going that Buchanan was playing with a much greater physical style. Forwards Katie Peterson, Tera Koeble, and Mid Amanda Dudiak were the ones to suffer much of the punishment. Buchanan was not playing dirty by any means but were prepared to go for the ball and take a foul if necessary. The Bucks intensity caught the Mustangs off guard leading to Buchanan going up early. The Bucks took advantage of a free kick opportunity which was knocked over the Mustang defense to a charging buck player who nicely with one touch rocketed the ball into the net. Impressively the Mustangs showed growth as a team and did not allow falling behind in the early going effect their confidence. Instead the Stangs took it as a wake up call and adjusted to the physical play. As the Mustangs calmed down the offensive began to put passes together and challenge Buchanan's keeper. The Mustangs were able to even the score on what will definitely be one of the top scoring plays of the season. Katie Peterson was given a pass by Amanda Dudiak and found herself in the clear. Peterson rocketed a shot that deflected off the post to a charging Tera Koeble who ran in and kicked the ball side netting before it had the chance to hit the ground. The goal evened up the score 1-1. Buchanan's aggressive defense came back to haunt them as they committed a fouled inside the penalty area. This set up a penalty kick for the Mustangs which was taken by Amanda Dudiak. Dudiak did her thing and placed her shot perfectly putting the once trailing Mustangs ahead 2-1. Buchanan would not let down however. In the final minutes of the half the Bucks once again found the back of the net evening the score 2-2. Earlier in the half the Mustangs had a goal taken back after Koeble headed a cross into Buchanan's goal. The head official signaled that the goal counted but later went to speak with the side linesman. After some discussion the official ruling was that Koebel had made contact with the Buchanan keeper before heading the ball. Thus the goal was called back and the score at halftime was 2-2. The second half would prove to be even more full of events. First it was the Bucks to get the crowed rilled up. Buchanan was awarded a penalty kick after a River Valley handball. Buchanan's Penalty kick went just wide of the post and a diving Ashley Kuntz. The Score remained 2-2. The Mustangs did not fail to come right back and get a shot of their own. This one came off the foot of Amanda Dudiak who placed a perfect shot over the Buchanan keeper. second goal of the contest gave the a 3-2 lead. Around ten minutes later the Mustangs would be given another perfect scoring opportunity. Buchanan once again fouled Dudiak inside their own 18 setting up a second River Valley penalty kick. This time the Stangs were not so lucky as Peterson's shot was saved by the Bucks goalie. Both teams would go back and fourth down to the final second of the game. In fact Buchanan would make one last final attempt to even the score. With under 5 seconds remaining the Bucks chipped a shot off the side post which deflected to a Buchanan player. With the net wide open and two seconds remaining. Freshmen Shelby Francis came to the rescue sliding in and deflecting the final Buchanan shot. The Mustangs battled their way to a very important 3-2 victory.

Dudiak and Peterson score 3 each as the Stangs take out frustration on visiting Granger Christian
The mustangs dominated Granger for nearly 80 minutes of play. During this performance the Mustangs broke their single game record for shots in a game with over 40. This is both good and bad showing the strong offensive attack but also shows the Stangs need to put more of their shots on net. The Mustangs ended up winning the game 6-2 after jumping out to a 4-0 lead. Late in the half Granger struck just minutes apart to cut the score down to 4-2. The Mustangs came back scoring in the half's final minute to give the Stangs a 5-2 halftime advantage. Granger was held to one shot in the second half while the Mustangs were busy taking shots. Granger only allowed one goal in the final 40 minutes of the game and the Mustangs powered their way to a much needed 6-2 victory. The Stangs played very well winning the 50/50 balls while also showing good passing and possession. All the scoring for River Valley came from two players, a senior and a freshmen. The Senior Dudiak scored 3 goals and added an assist in her half of the two headed hat trick while the Freshmen Katie Peterson did her half scoring 3 goals and also adding an assist. Jodi Grandholm had another strong performance placing several shots on net and aiding her teammates in scoring with 2 assists.

Mustangs fall for second game in a row.
There is no easy way to put it. The Mustangs had a disappointing performance in a 2-0 loss to Brandywine. The Mustangs lost to the Bobcats 2-1 in an earlier season meeting. Brandywine used extra hustle and teamwork to take advantage of some Mustang mistakes. Brandywine played with a lot of intensity which the Mustangs could not match. The loss is the teams second in a row.

Mustangs lose to first place Edwardsburg in Final Minutes
The Eddies came into todays contest with only one loss this season. In this years opener the Eddies visited the Mustangs and handed them a 5-1 defeat. After that game the Stangs knew their next meeting with Edwardsburg would be a good measuring stick to see how much improvement they had made since game one.  Despite having the wind to their backs things did not look for the Mustangs. Edwardsburg came out strong and put a ton of pressure on the River Valley defense. After several close scoring chances the Eddies put one on the board to go ahead 1-0. Minutes later the Eddies struck again putting the Mustangs down 2-0 not even half way through the games first 40 minutes. When things looked hopeless the Stangs showed growth. Not giving up the Mustangs picked up their offense leading to a nice through ball played to Katie Peterson who took the keeper one on one and succeed in scoring the Mustangs first goal of the game. With the score 2-1 both teams battled back and forth. Senior Amanda Dudiak began to find some holes in the Edwardsburg defense for some double or triple teams. The aggressive Eddies defense led to a tripping call inside their own 18 giving the Mustangs a penalty kick. After being taken down Dudiak was a little shaken up and Peterson got the call to take the PK. Peterson perfectly placed her shot tyeing up the game at 2-2. The scored remained even heading into halftime. With the wind still howling Edwardsburg would gain the advantage in the final 40 minutes. It was evident from the beginning of the half that the Eddies where going to play very offensive. Edwardsburg doubled the Mustangs in shots but the defense played strong. Ashley Kuntz made some nice saves and the Stangs did their best to not let Edwardsburg get good shooting angles. It seemed as if the game would end up being a tie with under 3 minutes remaining. Edwardsburg winning ways proved one again as the Eddies scored with just over two minutes remaining giving them the 3-2 advantage. River Valley did not back down and actually had a great scoring chance in the final minute. Dudiak dribbled down the field and crossed the ball on the ground to a wide up back post. The stangs were a split second off touching the ball in before it rolled just wide. Despite losing 3-2 the Mustangs showed a vast improvement from these two teams first meeting. The Stangs look to continue their improvement as the season rolls on.

Mustangs bounce back with 7-0 victory.
After losing a disappointing game to LMC 1-0 despite 26 shots. The Mustangs found their aim against the visiting Michigan Lutheran Titans in a 7-0 win. The Stangs jumped out right away scoring 4 goals in the opening 11 minutes of the game. The Mustangs played very well and showed great passing. Ashley Kuntz and the defense also held strong getting the shutout. Amanda Dudiak finished the game with 3 goals and 2 assists, Tera Koeble Scored twice and added an assist, while Katie Peterson had a goal and assist, Megen Kehoe also scored for the victorious Mustangs.
The Stangs are now 6-4 overall. Next up the Mustangs Travel to Edwardsburg who is in first place in the Lakeland Conference. If the Mustangs manage a victory there will be a three way tie for first place.

Mustangs dominate possesion but lose 1-0
The Mustangs looked very impressive with possessing the ball in the middle of the field and even managed to take 26 shots. The problem is with exception to a goal being called back for offsides, the Stangs could not find the back of the net. Lake Michigan Catholic held strong despite the Mustang attack and used one of the few scoring chances they had to score with 12 minutes left in the game. The Mustangs cranked up the pressure and forced the LMC keeper to make some great diving saves. In the end the Stangs could not score and lost in a very disappointed 1-0 game. The Mustangs now have an overall record of 6-4.

Mustangs win 3rd game in a row. Dudiak breaks team record.
The Mustangs won their third straight game of the season, all of which have been on the road. Tonights game was at Covert. The Mustangs did not Lack offense as the Stangs won 8-0 in the 70th minute via the mercy rule. Amanda Dudiak who is not foreign to scoring broke the Mustang single game scoring record after putting in 4 goals. Chelsey Schmidt added her second straight goal in the past two games, Freshman Jessica Kersey scored her first career goal, Tera Koeble scored for the third straight game and Katie Peterson added a goal. Ashley Kuntz and Katie Oldenburg combined for the shutout. The win gives the Mustangs a 5-3 overall record.

    Mustangs beat the Bees!!!!

If you know anything about River Valley Girls Soccer you know there is not a bigger rival at RV then the Ladie Bees and Mustangs. The history only in its 4th year has had the dramatics to last a decade. Every game has had major conference standing implications or in last years case a match up in district play. Each of the these two teams matches which before today’s game is seven. Have all with exception to one game been decided by one goal. Last season the Mustangs defeated the Bees at Bridgman to win the conference scoring with just 26 seconds left to win 1-0. However the district host Bees would get some revenge defeating the Stangs for the first time ever in a 1-0 district final victory. Many have looked at Bridgman as being the favorite to win the conference this season and currently sit in first place without a conference loss. The big question facing the Mustangs would be how the many new freshmen faces would respond to this fun rival game. Once again this game had major conference implications as a loss would put the Mustangs 3 games back in the standing while a win would put the Mustangs only a game back. Early on the Mustangs looked impressive getting the ball up to their forwards and sending some crosses into the middle of the eighteen. Unfortunately the Stangs did not have much help from their midfield to get to those balls. After about 15 minutes of River Valley controlling play the veteran Bee’s came alive. The always dangerous Bridgman Midfielder Bachleda showed off her shot crushing a ball around 25 yards out just over the reach of River Valley goal keeper Ashley Kuntz. It was a great shot and the Bees were suddenly ahead 1-0. This would be another big test for the Mustangs to see how they would react having to come back against the Bee’s. Both teams would pressure each other for the remainder of the half but neither would score. Unfortunately Bridgman would lose a forward to an injury in the first half that would keep her out the remainder of the game. After playing a good first half the Stangs were still looking at a 1-0 deficit. It was clear the Mustangs needed some extra pressure on offense. The Stangs came out in the second half with great intensity along with smart play. Bridgman threatened early on to jump out to a 2-0 lead but the defense along with keeper Ashley Kuntz kept the score at 1-0. The Mustangs worked themselves into a corner kick situation which led to Freshmen Chelsey Schmidt scoring her first career goal heading/deflecting a cross from Amanda Dudiak up and over the Bridgman keeper and into the goal. The score evened the game up at 1-1. The Mustangs were not done pressuring the bees. Tera Koeble would come up big after taking a shot that was deflected by Bridgman’s diving keeper and into the back of the net. The comeback goal was a shot of adrenalin only a Bees Mustangs game can provide. River Valley used the final 15 minutes trying to keep the ball down in the Bridgman defensive half of the field. The Mustangs did a good job of getting rid of the ball and running down the clock. In the end the Mustangs had pulled off what many were questioning whether the Mustangs would be able to do, compete with Bridgman. Instead the Mustangs not only competed with the Bee’s but defeated Bridgman in a comeback victory. Yet another game decided by one goal in these teams first meeting of the season. There will be at least on more meeting between these two teams at River Valley later on in the season and a possible district match up at host River Valley. The win shows the Mustangs are not a walkover team after losing 11 players from last season including 7 starters. The Stangs have now shown they can compete with some of the top teams and youth or inexperience can no longer be used as an excuse. The win puts the Mustangs at 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the Lakeland conference.

Mustangs get revenge from last seasons loss at Buchanan.

After a very disappointing home loss to conference opponent Brandywine and later blow out defeat against St. Joe. The young Mustangs found themselves in a situation that would test their character. The Stangs could come out with their heads down against a veteran Buchanan squad or the Mustangs could learn from their previous defeats and come out with intensity of River Valley teams in years past. In fact the Mustangs would be looking to avenge their only conference loss last season that came at the hands of Buchanan 1-0. The stangs with a win would have insured themselves in what would eventually become a conference championship. Although half of this years roster was not on last seasons team, the importance of getting a win in order to stay in the conference race was of much importance. Today’s game marked the first game for Freshman Katie Peterson who was coming back from an arm injury. Katie still feeling the affects of the injury did not stop her from being noticed right away. Just 4 minutes into the game Peterson found herself on a breakaway which she rocketed over the crossbar. With the butterfly’s gone, Peterson came back just 8 minutes later taking the Bucks sweeper one on one leading to a shot placed into the side netting giving Peterson her first goal of her young Mustang career and a 1-0 lead. After battling back and forth neither team would find the back of the net for the remainder of the half giving the Stangs a 1-0 advantage heading into the final 40 minutes. It was Buchanan who came out and took the momentum early on pressuring the Mustangs defense. Eventually the pressure was too much as Buchanan evened the score 1-1. With the game now tied Buchanan looked very eager to get the go ahead goal. The Bucks created some scoring opportunities but the young Stangs defense held strong. Eventually the momentum of the game shifted as River Valley began to win the 50/50 balls. This led to Amanda Dudiak taking on a defender inside the 18 before firing a shot which sliced off the crossbar then side post on its way into the net. There was not much the Buchanan keeper could do with the hard well placed shot. The Mustangs continued to show a lot of heart as both teams intensity was at a high with under 20 minutes remaining and River Valley carrying a 2-1 lead. The Mustangs defense held strong and the offense began to put a lot of pressure on Buchanan. Finally River Valley ensured the victory after Tera Koeble notched her first goal of the season finding the Bucks keeper out of position and placing a perfect shot from about 20 yards out on the ground to the side netting. Koebles goal came with only 2 minutes remaining giving the Stangs a 3-1 huge victory. A lot of heart and teamwork came into play in the Mustangs win. River Valleys outside mid rotation was also very important in the victory with a breakout performance from Ingrid Stein. The Mustangs played this game without starting sweeper Liz Milliken who was out with an injury. The very important and impressive victory improved the Mustangs overall record to 3-3 on the season and 1-2 in Lakeland play. The Mustangs will next travel to play fist place rival Bridgman.

St. Joe out plays the Mustangs.
A year ago the Mustangs shocked many by defeating the much larger St. Joe Bears 3-1. This season St. Joe would have none of that firmly defeating the Mustangs.

River Valley comes out flat and cannot finish comeback bid against Brandywine
The Mustangs coming off a big tournament victory next faced off against conference opponent Brandywine. The Mustangs did not start where they left off over the weekend allowing Brandywine to out play and out hustle the host Stangs. River Valley seemed stagnate at times and Brandywine took advantage of it going go the ball strong and pushed their way to a 2-0 halftime lead. The Mustangs came to life looking more like the team over the weekend and put pressure on the Bobcats. With 20 minutes remaining Amanda Dudiak scored on a perfectly placed free kick to cut the lead down to 2-1. The Mustangs became even more offensively aggressive but could not find a clean shot on goal. Time ran out on the Stangs comeback bid as Brandywine drove away with a 2-1 win.

Girls lose season opener to seasoned Edwardsburg
The Mustangs season did not begin the way they had hoped allowing the Eddies to score just 58 seconds into the game. The Mustangs did respond in the 14th minute as Megan Kehoe evened the score at 1-1. Both teams had several scoring opportunities through out the half but it was Edwardsburg who found the net in the final minutes of the half to go up 2-1. The Eddies used their veteran experience and the wind at their backs to put a lot of pressure on the inexperienced Mustangs defense. Edwardsburg spread their scoring around en rout to a 5-1 victory. Ashley Kuntz of River Valley had 23 saves in her stint at goal for the Mustangs. This was the first game for both teams this season. Each team have had previous matches canceled due to weather conditions.

Mustang Boys players reap the rewards of a great season.
The River Valley Mustangs for the fourth year in a row ended the season with a winning record. For the first time in school history the boys soccer program was also State Ranked. The Stangs finished 3rd in the very competitive Lakeland Conference for the second straight season. River Valley is the Smallest of the 8 schools representing the conference. On top of this the Mustangs successfully finished with their best season record at 14-6-0. Each of the Mustangs losses were to teams who had at least 12 wins during the regular season. Senior Josh Gibson broke Ian Liess's (class of 06) record of most goals in a season with 34. Liess previously held the record with 24 goals. Unfortunately for the Mustangs the season came to an end in the opening round of Districts after losing to the state ranked conference champion Bridgman Bees. The Bees went onto advancing to the Regional finals where they lost to the eventual state champions. Below is a list of post season awards given to very deserving Mustang players. RV's great season comes to an end.
The Mustangs knew they could play with the state ranked and district favorite Bridgman Bees. The only problem was they needed to show it. To the surprise of the Bridgman faithful the Stangs did just that. Many assumed the Bees would roll through each team on their way to regionals as they had done last season at the division 3 level. The Senior dominated Mustangs were not going to walk off the field without knowing they had at least gained respect. The Mustangs came into the game with the confidence that they were going to whatever it took to advance to the next round. The Stangs showed this surprise of many battling the Bees in the first half. The Mustangs created some scoring opportunities that they were not able to finish on while the Bees were shutdown by RV keep Josh Hudson but for one shot which was impressively scored on a great cross. The one goal was all the first half saw as the score at halftime was 1-0. The Mustangs knew they could play with Bees only trailing by one goal and developed a halftime game plan of trying to even up the score. If the Bees were to go up 2-0 the Stangs with the season on the line would sacrifice defense and move players up to try and make the come back. Unfortunately for the Mustangs the Bees scored first in the second half forcing the Mustangs to change around their line up to attempt a come back. The Mustangs did a nice job of creating scoring chances after making their changes but could not put a shot past the Bees keeper. With the defense having to play more offensively goalie Josh Hudson made some great saves but ultimately Bridman would capitalize. As each 4 year senior was subbed out of the game in the final ten minutes the Bees would score twice to turn a close game into a 5-0 loss for the Mustangs. This was a heartbreaking game for the Mustang seniors but an effort they could walk off their home field with their heads held high. Each player gave their all as a team and individual. Bridgman proved they are a top state ranked team but had to play their top game to beat the Mustangs. There will be more to come on the Final season wrap up which will include District, conference, Regional, and State Awards.

Mustangs win Classic game with golden goal.
In the 3rd and last round of the Lakeland Conference tournament the Mustangs hosted the Buchanan Bucks. The Stangs defeated the Bucks earlier in the year in a hard fought match. This game would go down as a classic game that the fans and players would not soon forget. The Mustangs were spoiled early on as Josh Gibson scored twice to give the Mustangs a 2-0 halftime lead. In what was a wet windy evening the Bucks would have the wind at their backs to begin the second half and looked to take advantage of it. That Buchanan did scoring on a scrum in front of the RV goal to make it a 2-1 game. Both teams battled back and forth each having scoring chances but either missed the net or where shut down by the opposing keeper. On what RV thought was a controversial foul call the Bucks were awarded a Penalty kick. To make matters worse the Mustangs keeper Josh Hudson saved the PK but gave up a goal as his save has deflected directly back to the shooter. The score was suddenly even 2-2. The fired up Stangs did everything they could to regain the lead but the score remained tied after 80 minutes of play. The game was not over as overtime is played in conference tournament games. The first team to score would win the game in either the first 15 minute overtime period or the second. If the score remained tied the game would be determined in a shootout. The Stangs looked to send the crowed home early by scoring the game winning "Golden Goal" early in the first overtime period. The Mustangs found their second or third wind coming out with fierce intensity. The Stangs dominated play but were shutdown Temporary by the Bucks Goalie. One goalie was not going to be able to stop the Mustangs attack. This was evident as RV's Mike Becktell took a free kick which he send far post to a surging Jacob Peterson who finished off with a golden goal. The Mustangs celebrated as they had won their first overtime victory in dramatic fashion. This was also the last game before districts. The Golden goal gave the Mustangs a 3-2 win and added on to their already all time victories in a season at 14-5. The Mustangs will next host the 10th in state ranked Bridgman Bees in the first round of the District playoffs. The Mustangs having been ranked at onetime with the Bees as honorable mention look to be the top 2 teams heading into district play. Despite who anyone thinks are the top teams only time will tell and either the Bees or the Mustangs will move on to the second round.

Stangs rebound with mercy rule victory,

The Mustangs had a statement to make after losing their hard fought game against the Eddies. Unfortunately for Coloma they were the team next up in the second round of the Lakeland Conference Tournament. Simply put the young Coloma comets gave it everything they had but could not withstand the senior dominated Mustang team. This was evident as the Stangs rolled onto a mercy rule victory 8-0. Josh Hudson and Beck Williamson share credit in goal for the Mustangs getting the shutout. Coloma gave a good effort and their future looks bright.

Mustangs lose first round match with a first class effort.
The Mustangs opened up the Lakeland Conference tournament as the number 3 seed. Due to having to forfeit several games the Edwardsburg Eddies were knocked down from the 2nd seed to the 6th seed. The Mustangs just played the Eddies the last game of the regular season and were for the most part outplayed. Tonight was a different story as the Mustangs knew the talent of Edwardsburg and were not going to go down without giving it everything they had. To the surprise of Edwardsburg a different Mustang team took the field than the one they had just seen a few days earlier. With some lineup changes and high stakes on the line the Stangs played with high intensity and confidence from the start of the game. Both teams were evenly matched but it was Edwardsburg who would light up the scoreboard first late in the first half. Even being down a goal at half time it was all positives on the RV sideline. The Mustangs had several first half scoring chances but could not finish. In the second half the Mustangs aim was on and Josh Gibson made sure of scoring scoring the Stangs first goal to even the match at 1-1. The game went back and forth to the final seconds in what was an edge of your seat game which both teams were pushed each other to play their top game. In the end The eddies would prevail with a 3-2 victory. The Mustangs may have lost the game but probably played their best game of the season despite the defeat.

Mustangs finish Conference play in 3rd place
The Mustangs ended the regular season in third place. This means the Mustangs will be the number 3 seed heading into the conference tournament. The Mustangs will face at home in the first round. The Eddies fell from the number 2 seed to the 6th seed after having to forfeit several games due to playing an ineligible player.

    Final regular season game

Things looked up after Mike Becktell scored on a penalty kick to put the Stangs up 1-0. Edwardsburg would respond however scoring twice late in the first half. With the score 2-1 at halftime the Mustangs new they needed to pick it up. The Eddies were to much beating the Mustangs by a score of 4-2.

    Mustangs lose a tough one
The River Valley Mustangs traveled to Berrien Springs to play an important conference match. Things looked to be in the Mustangs favor as they took an early 1-0 lead. Things headed south after that including some con traversal calls or no calls. Despite the Stangs displease with the officiating they battled on. Berrien Springs scored on Penalty Kick just after a the Mustangs did not receive a call down inside the Shamrocks 18 when they had a player taken down. The score was 2-1 with the Mustangs trailing. Twice River Valley had great scoring chances in front of the Berrien goal but did not finish. The Shamrocks scored a late goal to win by a score of 3-1 ending the Mustangs 7 game winning streak.

    Senior Night Magic
The Mustangs hosted Covert whom the Stangs beat 5-0 earlier in the season. Nothing was going to stop the 10 River Valley seniors from winning this game. The Stangs broke out to a 4-0 lead but gave up a late goal ending the game with a score of 4-1.

Mustangs look to make it 7 in a row
River Valley Hosted the always difficult Buchanan Bucks. Things did not look good for the Mustangs in the early going. The Bucks were dominating the Stangs but failed to capitalize more than once in the first half giving them a 1-0 halftime lead. The Second half featured a new Mustang team that turned the table out playing their opponent. The Stangs did what they had to do scoring twice winning by a score of 2-1.

    Mustangs keep on rolling
River Valley traveled to Cassopolis to play the Rangers. The Mustangs dominated mostly the entire game winning by a score of 7-0.

    River Valley wins heated game.
The Mustangs stayed on the road traveling to Covert. River Valley pressured the covert defense early as Josh Gibson and Steve Petro rocketed shots off the post. A short time later the post would no long save covert as Josh Gibson put the Mustangs up 1-0. The score and physical play only grew as the Stangs win once again by a score of 5-0.

    Mustangs Mercy Coloma
The Mustangs on a winning streak visited a struggling Coloma team. The Stangs took advantage of this scoring ofter and early. About half way through the second half the Mustangs ended the game by going up 8-0. Scoring the goals for the Mustangs were Josh Gibson  (4) Jacob Stark (1) Vinnie Baggat (1) Steve Petro (2)

    First ever meeting with LaLumiere
The Mustangs faced an unknown opponent in LaLumiere . It did not take the Stangs long to see they had a challenge on their hands. LaLumiere full of foreign players passed great as a team. The Mustangs defense played their best trying to shut down a constant attack. At halftime the score was 0-0 with Lalumiere full of confidence. Finally that confidence turned into a goal. The score came on a perfectly placed free kick to put them up 1-0. The scored remained unitll the 73rd minute when Vinnie Baggatt scored on a hustle play to shock everyone and even up the score. The Drama was not over as three minutes later Dan Aldan took a shoot which was deflected high into the air towards the  LaLumiere  goal. A pack of Mustangs crashed the goal leading to Jacob Peterson doing the impossible by scoring what became the game winning goal. The Stangs won this game with heart and helped their records with at 5-2.

Mustangs battle Bridgman for first place.
In the opening minutes it looked as if the two first place teams would have a close game. That would not be the case as Bridgman scored on an attempted cross . It was all Bridgman from there as the Bees went on to win 5-0.

Mustangs looking to start a winning streak
The River Valley Mustangs hosted Gobles/Bloomindale in what has become a rivalry. The Mustangs did not let their opponent make much of any rivalry as the Stangs dominated the game winning by a score of 6-1. The Mustangs record improved to 4-1-0

    Let Conference Play begin!!!

Looking back to last season, the Mustangs had a sour taste in their mouth. RV faced the Bobcats in the conference tournament last year in a game which ended in double overtime. Brandywine was the team to end the game scoring the golden goal. This meeting would be different. The Mustangs back on their home turf gave themselves no option but to start out the conference 1-0. From the get go the Stangs made sure this happened manhandling a younger Brandywine team. The Mustangs quickly erased last years defeat with a 4-1 victory. Scoring for River Valley was Josh Gibson, Josh Gibson, Josh Gibson, and yes Josh Gibson. Gibson scored all 4 goals while Josh Hudson recorded the shutout. The Mustangs record improved to 3-1.

The Mustangs traveled to Division 2 Sturgis with stormy weather following. Only a minute into the game the referees blew their whistles and said to take cover. This due to the sight of lightning and a storm on it's way. The two teams took shelter inside the school for around an hour before the storm had passed. It was now time to restart the game. Unfortunately for RV they had trouble getting started as Sturgis beat the Mustangs 3-0.  The Stangs record now stands at 2-0-1

River Valley gets second win against New Buffalo
In a game which featured the Mustangs not being able to finish their shots. The defense look over shutting down New Buffalo's offense. Luckily the Stangs did score late in the first half off the foot of Dan Aldan. Goalie Josh Hudson and his defense did the rest as the Mustangs defeated the Bisons 1-0.   The Stangs record now stands at 2-0-0.

Mustangs Revenge LMC but it was not easy
Last season the Mustangs hopes of a district title were shattered after a loss to LMC 2-1 in the district semi finals. A new year has arrived and it began with a bang. The Stangs have high hopes this year with a starting lineup of mostly seniors. The Mustangs dominated LMC early but could not find the net missing several scoring opportunities. As luck would have it LMC took two shots in the first half both going into the back of the net. The lackers were up 2-0 and RV needed to step up. Step up the Mustangs did after Dan Alden scored late in the half to inch closer to the 2-1 LMC halftime lead. The Mustangs began the second half strong scoring once again off the foot of Brandon Pettrick evening the score. LMC answered mid way through the half once again leading, now by a score of 3-2.  To the rescue with minutes left sweeper Mike Becktel came scoring off a corner kick heading the ball in. The score now 3-3 held at the second half's end. The Lakers and Mustangs now faced off in the first of two overtime periods. In the first overtime RV seemed to be tiering out as LMC gained momentum. Saved by the whistle the second and final overtime began. The Mustangs looked recharged and took momentum away from the Lakers. Five minutes into the overtime the game came to an end. Dan Alden scored his second goal of the game and it was golden giving the Mustangs a 4-3 season opening victory.

"When respect is not given, take it"

You take the respect that you have earned and deserve,  You did this by not giving excuses during the hard times and by being humble during the positive days. No matter what people in your school think, no matter what the those in the community say. You turn those negatives into positives and then look ahead to the other schools who once looked at you as an easy win. You have earned and taken that respect from those who questioned, for those who said it couldn't happen, and for those who never wanted this (River Valley Soccer) to exist. You have grown from coed club, to coed, to going on to your third year as varsity boys and girls programs. We are thankful for our opportunity's to represent our school, and we are grateful for both the down times and the positive moments. This is all because they said you couldn't and you said nothing. Now the past, present, and future, is delivering everything that needs to be said. Most importantly through it all, were having fun!!!!

Mustangs finish season as back to back Lakeland conference champions with a record of 16-3-1!!!!

River Valley Falls to Bridgman in District finals.
The River Valley Mustangs season came to an end after loosing a tough 1-0 loss to Bridgman in the District finals. The Mustang had previously beaten the bees twice earlier in the season but could not finish off the sweep in their third meeting. Even with the loss the Mustangs season came to an end with the most impressive overall season in the area. The Stangs were state ranked all season and finished with a great 16-3-1 record. The Mustangs also won their second back to back Lakeland Conference Championships. The Stangs have accomplished all this in only three seasons of play. Congratulations to the entire Mustang team for an amazing season and best of luck to the seniors. One thing is for certain, the Stangs will be back next season.

River Valley wins first ever district game advancing to the Finals
The Mustangs dominated Michigan Lutheran en rout to an 8-0 mercy rule victory. The Mustangs recorded thier 11th shutout of the season. Scoring for the Stangs were Amanda Dudiak (3) Kali Lauzon (2) Koebel, and Megan Carlson. The final goal was an own goal scored my Michigan Lutheran. The win improves the Mustangs record to 16-2-1 and moves them into the district finals.

Mustangs square off in pre district battle
After winning the Lakeland Conference in dramatic fashion. The River Valley Mustangs traveled to Michigan Lutheran to face the Titans whom they will face off against in the semi finals of districts. Michigan Lutheran being a first year team have played the Mustangs very strong. Earlier in the Season the Titans brought the Mustangs into halftime with the score of 0-0. The Stangs got their act together scoring 6 goals in the second half to finish with a 6-0 win. Today's first half was played much the same as these two teams previous meeting. The Stangs offense looked very impressive but could not score a goal. The Stangs were firing shots over the goal, directly at the goalie, or slow rollers. The Mustangs Jodi Grandholm took matters into her own hands with a chip shot about 35 yards out up and over the ML keepers reach. The Stangs took their 1-0 lead into halftime. Though the Stangs were leading the game, there were many missed goal scoring opportunities. In the second half the Stangs shooting was a little better as Kali Lauzon scored twice to give the Mustangs a 3-0 lead. The score held up and the Mustangs were victorious for the second time this season over Michigan Lutheran. The Mustangs were happy with the victory but know they missed some key scoring opportunities. The win gives the Mustangs an overall record of 15-2-1  6-1-1 in the conference and 10 shot outs. The Mustangs will wait until after labor day to face the Titans in the win or go home district tournament hosted at Bridgman. The game will be Wed at 4:30.

You can now call them the Back to Back Champions
The River Valley Mustangs beat Bridgman by a score of 1-0 after scoring in the final minute of the game. If Bridgman would have been able to hold onto the tie, they would have had the chance to be co conference champions if they were to beat Brandywine next week. Instead it was the great play from the goalie all the way up to the forwards who teamed together to pull out a very evenly matched game. In the end it was a pass from Kali Lauzon to Amanda Dudiak who than shot the ball which would give the Mustangs their second conference championship in back to back years. The Bees were visually heart broken after going down 1-0. This however only lasted a few seconds as Bridgman still had time on the clock to get one more chance. To the dismay of the Mustangs Bridgman brought the ball right down the field and gave themselves a scoring chance which was just off target hitting the outside of the net.  This left just enough time for the Mustangs to take their goal kick and then celebrate as the whistle sounded and the Mustangs had beaten their rival in a must win game. Hats off to both teams for their intense play the entire game, and congratulations to the Stangs who earned the opportunity to call themselves champions. This however is just the first step. The Mustangs next face their ultimate goal of winning their district and advancing to the regional round. I just may be that these two teams meet up once again for the district championship. The win gives the Mustangs a record  of 14-2-1 and 6-1-1 in the conference.  The Mustangs in their 3rd season have only lost two conference games.

Mustangs 14 game unbeaten streak comes to an end
The River Valley Mustang Girls soccer team went into Buchanan with the opportunity to lock up at least a share of the Lakeland conference title. The Mustangs had beaten Buchanan twice this year 1-0 and 2-0. With thoughts of back to back titles on their minds the Mustangs did not come out and play like the first place team they are. Buchanan took early momentum as they were the aggressor. Buchanan came ready to play and their hard work paid off 20 minutes into the game scoring to put themselves up 1-0. Though the Mustangs did give themselves scoring opportunities they were unable to put many shots on target. To begin the second half Buchanan was awarded with a Penalty kick. River Valley Keeper Jordan Cronin made an outstanding save to keep the game at 1-0. Unfortunately for the Mustangs the scored stayed that way and as RV was shutout for only the second time this season. The Mustangs loss pulls Bridgman's to within a game of the Stangs. The Mustangs have played one more conference game than has Bridgman. These two teams meet up on Thursday. If River Valley should win they would be the outright conference champions. If River Valley is to lose, Bridgman would have to tie or beat Brandywine to undo the first place tie. The Rivalry continues Thursday at Bridgman but not before the Mustangs take on Granger Christian at home 5pm on Tuesday. The Mustangs overall record falls to 13-2-1  5-1-1. Cronin for the Mustangs came up with 15 saves.

Mustangs contiune to surge with 14 game ubeaten streak

The River Valley Mustangs took care of business in front of their home crowd beating Benton Harbor by a score of 9-0. Scoring for the Stangs were Dudiak 2, Lauzon, Grandholm, Sibenmark, Smith, Jackson, and Kuntz. The Mustangs defense recorded their first ever game without giving up a shot. Goalie Jordan Cronin and the defense captured their 7th shutout of the season. The Mustangs win gives them a 13-1-1 record overall and 5-0-1 record in the Lakeland Conference. The Stangs next travel to Buchanan where a win would secure at least a co conference championship.

    Senior night revenge over Brandywine

Visiting the Mustangs were the Brandywine Bobcats state ranked honnorable mention. Revenge was on the Stangs minds after tying Brandywine earlier in the season after leading by two goals. Being senior night the Mustangs needed no more hype and were ready to play the game. It was the Mustangs who struck first just 5 minutes into the game after Kali Lauzon was taken out inside the penalty box. River Valley capitalized on this opportunity as Amanda Dudiak scored on the penalty kick. Brandywine did not let the goal effect them as their play was picked up a notch. Brandywine became much more aggressive and took control of the game for much of the first half. Brandywine was able to manage a goal after Kali Newman scored after beating two Mustang defenders. The score remained tied going into halftime which was extended to acknowledge the seniors. In the second half the Mustangs as they have done so often turned it up a notch and came out with the intensity that was previously lacking. Brandywine did not back down but the Mustangs were too much for the Bobcats who only have one loss on the season. It was Amanda Dudiak who scored on another penalty kick to give the Mustangs the 2-1 go ahead lead. With the game still close the Stangs struck again after Tera Koeble scored off a corner kick with a head ball. This put the Mustangs up for good winning by a score of 3-1. The 5th ranked Mustangs improved their record to 12-1-1 overall and 5-0-1 in conference. The Mustangs have now beaten both the teams whom they suffered a loss and a tie from earlier in the year. A win next week at Buchanan would assure the Mustangs at least a share of the Lakeland Conference title for the second year in a row.

Mustangs defeat talented Edwardsburg for season sweep.

The River Valley Mustangs came out under the lights Friday night with a must win mentality. The Stangs needed a win to keep their one game advantage in the conference standings. The Mustangs used their first half wind to their advantage after Katelyn Rossman scored on a free kick about 35 yards out. The Stangs weren't finished after a scramble in front of the net led to Megan Carlson falling into the goal while also scoring the Mustangs second goal of the game. Edwardsburg would not go down without a fight. The Eddies scored on a rebound after a great save by River Valley Keeper Jordan Cronin. With the halftime score 2-1 and the Eddies second half wind advantage. The Mustangs knew their defense would have to come out strong. The above accord as the Stangs shutout Edwardsburg in the second half. The Eddies did have several shots on net saved by Cronin. The Mustangs did not stay satisfied with two goals after Amanda Dudiak put in the Mustangs third goal of the game en rout to a 3-1 victory. The Mustangs sweep the season series with Edwardsburg winning previously in the season by a score of 1-0. The Mustangs clutch win gives the Stangs an overall record of 11-1-1 and a Lakeland Conference record of 4-0-1. The Mustangs will next seek revenge facing ranked #8th Brandywine whom the Stangs tied after leading the game by two goals. The game will be at 7pm and is senior night.

Mustangs defeat LMC for the second time this season
The Mustangs who beat LMC 4-1 just over a week ago, were set for a rematch. The Stangs came out playing strong but could not put the ball in the net. Finally Amanda Dudiak put the Mustangs ahead after finishing off a penalty kick to give the Stangs a 1-0 lead. It was all River Valley from that point on. Megan Kehoe scored on rocket shot later in the half to give the stangs a 2-0 lead going into halftime. In the second half the Mustangs continued to pressure LMC but could only finish off one more goal coming leading team scorer Kali Lauzon. The Mustangs defense once again proved dominant only allowing a few shots while capturing the shutout.

Mustangs travel to face Lake Michigan Catholic

The Stangs came out charging against the Lakers Monday night. You could see in RV's play that they had an offensive set of mind. The Mustangs proved they could pass the ball and that they did very impressively. The Stangs looked very unselfish and at times passed up shots they probably should have taken instead looking for that one more perfect pass. The result of this great display only accounted for one first half score. The goal came off a rocket shot from Kali Lauzon which was blocked by the LMC keeper and right to the foot of the Kelsey Kauffman who was wisely crashing the goal. The Mustangs were close to scoring on many occasions including a blast of the cross bar by Lauzon. At halftime the score was 1-0. The Stangs new they were playing to well to let this only be a one goal game. All it would take is a minor slip up and LMC could be right back to evening up the score. The Lakers did attempt some offensive attacks but the Mustangs defense held strong including goalkeeper Jordan Cronin. The Stangs offense then got on track after Jodi Granholm sent a free kick into the back of the LMC net to put the stangs ahead by 2 goals. The scoring was not done as Tera Keoble took a shot that was deflected and then kneed into the LMC goal to put the stangs up 3. LMC did show some fight coming back and scoring on a great cross that was one touched in the air by the LMC forward and past a frozen Jordan Cronin. Have no fear Dudi is here, nearly 10 seconds after the LMC goal Amanda Dudiak chipped a shot into the corner of the net to put the stangs up for good 4-1. River Valley keeps up their unbeaten streak with the victory now sitting at 8-1-1. Next up for the Mustangs is the always anticipated battle between the Mustangs and the Bees of Bridgman.

Mustangs travel to face improved Brandywine
The River Valley Mustangs traveled to Brandywine carrying a 2-0 record in the Lakeland Conference. Brandywine yet to play a conference game was 3-0 and was ready to show the Lakeland they were for real. The Mustangs did not take the Bobcats lightly knowing the game was going to be a battle. It was a very windy day and the Stangs had the advantage in the first half of playing with the wind to their back. The Mustangs and Bobcats played pretty evenly in the first half despite the Mustangs owning the statistical shot advantage. The Stangs having trouble scoring did manage one first half goal after Amanda Dudiak finished on a penalty kick. Going into the second half the Bobcats probably felt satisfied only giving up one goal having to face the wind. Now in the second half it was RV who had to play into the gusts. Early on the wind did not seem to matter after Jodi Grandholm made a perfect pass to Kali Lauzon who finished off a great shot to put the Mustangs up 2-0. The Stang continued to get scoring opportunities but could not capitalize on several good scoring opportunities. Brandywines never give up attitude proved to be true. With under 20 minutes remaining in the game the Bobcats scored on a chip shot the wind carried just above the fingertips of RV goalie Jordan Cronin. The score now standing at 2-1 gave Brandywine some much needed momentum. In the games final 10 minutes Brandywine began to control the ball in the midfield but could not get into position to take a threating shot at the Mustang goal. Finally with around 5 minutes remaining Brandywine would get the dangerous scoring chance they had hopped for after the Mustangs committed a fouled just outside the 18. As the Stangs built a wall the Bobcats found away around it on a perfect upper 90 shot that goalie Jordan Cronin did not even see. The Mustangs tried with all their mite to break the 2-2 tie but could not find a late goal ending the game at 2-2. The disappointed Mustangs did do some good things but had trouble scoring. Unfortunately of the 5 shots on net the Bobcats had 2 went in. The Stangs tie still keeps them unbeaten thus far in conference at 2-0-1 and 6-1-1 overall.
