Summer Skills Sessions for 8th and 9th graders
For current 9th graders and current 8th graders.
Coach Pettit will be holding stick skills sessions for any interested
boys lax player. The sessions will be held from 6:00pm - 7:30pm on Tuesday and Thursday nights on the football stadium field at SAHS. The cost is $15 per player. Helmets, sticks, gloves only.
We will focus on stick skills and team-building. It is important for our
younger high school players to make the transition from JV and youth lacrosse into the competitive high school game and to build the "TEAM" mentality.
There are no games, only drills and skills. Defense is welcomed, but Please no goalies.

Tryouts Information
Tryouts for the boys lacrosse team will be held Monday, March 2 through Thursday March 5. Each day we will begin promptly at 3:30pm and will end around 6:00pm outdoors on the boys lacrosse field.
Equipment
You will need full equipment for tryouts including cleats and a mouth guard. Players needing to borrow equipment please contact coach Pettit.
Dress for the weather! It will be cold, wet, muddy, windy all week. Also bring sneakers in case we are moved indoors due to snow.
Paperwork
Any player who has not turned in papework will not be eligible to participate in tryouts! It is your responsibility to have all forms turned in by March 2. Blank forms can be found in the athletic office. Each player will need to complete the following:
1. Spring Athlete info form (The one on which you check off "boys lax"
2. PIAA eligibility form (This can be renewed if you were a Fall/Winter athlete)
3. Novacare medical form. All players need an updated one of these.

What to expect during tryouts
There will be full-contact drills, stick drills, and a large amount of conditioning. Players, dress for the weather and expect to work hard! Be on time and follow directions.
Indoor tryouts
In the event of inclement weather, we may need to move certain tryout days indoors. Please be patient and flexible. Indoor tryouts will be from 7:00pm - 9:00pm in the MAIN GYM at the high school. Bring full equipment including sneakers and mouth guard.
Evaluation
Players will be evaluated in the following categories to be considered for a spot on Varsity or JV...
Stick Skills - right hand/left hand throwing and catching.
Fundamentals - overhand shooting, two-hand scooping, two hands when playing defense, stick protection and cradling, hard passes.
Conditioning - ability to sprint, change direction, play defense, distance run
Communication - calling for the ball, talking to teammates, signaling ball down and release. Goalies talking to defense.
Attitude - coachability, respect for coaches and teammates, work ethic and understanding of the game.
Rosters
We will take approximately 20-23 players for varsity and approximately 20-23 players for JV. Rosters will be posted on the board outside the athletic office following tryouts on Thursday, March 5. Players not making the team will be given the oppportunity to speak with the coach briefly.
NO ONE IS "OWED" A SPOT ON THE TEAM. PLAYERS NEED TO EARN ROSTER SPOTS IN TRYOUTS. SENIORS ARE ELIGIBLE TO BE CUT AS ARE ALL OTHER PLAYERS.ALL DECISIONS ARE FINAL!

Fitting for team cleats

As a follow up to the introductory meeting with Coach Pettit, whereby he indicated his preference that the entire lacrosse team wear the same colored shoe, we have negotiated a deal with Schukyll Valley Sports to purchase the Nike Speedlax Plus - Men's Cleat for a reduced price of $55.00. There will be no additional taxes or shipping costs.
The representative at Schukyll Valley previously served as the Souderton High School Athletic Director and is excited about developing a relationship with the lacrosse team in order to provide us this deal as well as any future team needs.
Since Schukyll Valley does not routinely stock the desired red/white colored shoe, an advanced order will be necessary and a team fitting has been scheduled for this Friday, December 5, 2008 at 3:45 pm prior to the scheduled team practice. A final location will be confirmed, but we ask that all players gather outside room B2007. We ask that the players make sure they wear the type of sock(s) they will wear during games to get the proper fit of the cleat. This red/white colored shoe will be a special order through Nike as a team account, returns are not possible.
Schukyll Valley will honor the price for those who don't/can't order now, but there may be a potential shortage of inventory as time gets closer to the lacrosse season, therefore it may be best to act now! If interested in ordering now for this reduced price, please make payment (cash or check) directly to the Souderton Area HS Lacrosse Team and kindly show up for the team fitting this Friday.
