Kaje Sponheimer, Brandon Loro, Coach Dave Pecunia, Andre Petroski, and Dan Dortone
Congratulations to Springfield in the States! Andre Petroski (3rd), Dan Dortone (4th), Brandon Loro (6th), and Kaje Sponheimer (Q)
Cougar Wrestlers finish one of the most amazing seasons in school history by recording an all time best 12th place finish in the PA State Tournament.
Andre Petroski claimed a 3rd place bronze medal as he fired a takedown in the waning seconds of his first overtime period. Dan Dortone took 4th place and Brandon Loro placed 6th as each battled back through the challenging wrestlebacks to medal. Kaje Sponheimer wrestled great but lost close matches prior to the medal rounds.
To recap a season of greatness:
12th place States - Best state finish in school history 4th place Regions - Ties best regional finish since 1987 3rd place Districts - Best district finish since 1987 (2nd) 3 Consecutive Section titles - First time since 1988-1990 3 Consecutive League titles - First time since 1963-1965 League undefeated streak extended to 36 - Longest since 1961-1965 3 Consecutive invitations to District One Duals 4 State Qualifiers - A first in school history (previous high was 2) 3 State Medal winners - A first in school history (previous high was 1) State Medalists in 3 consecutive seasons - A first in school history 4 100 career win milestones (Dortone, Loro, Leahan, Petroski) - A first in school history 135 career wins (Dan Dortone) - Ties school record (Steve Armor) * PIAA formats changed in 1972 so pure comparisons against the teams of the 60's are difficult
Congratulations to the entire team and coaching staff on a season to remember!

Dan Dortone went undefeated to claim a regional championship! Andre Petroski and Kaje Sponheimer each were edged by a point in their finals match and placed 2nd. Brandon Loro, who battled back through wrestle backs, placed 4th and recorded his 100th career victory along the way!
Pat Leahan and John McCoach each won matches to help the team place but lost in wrestlebacks
Good luck to Danny, Brandon, Andre, & Kaje at Hershey!

L E A G U E C H A M P I O N S ! 3 times running !
Springfield defeated Ridley Feb 5 by a score of 46-24 to complete a dominating run through the Central League and claim the league title for an unprecedented 3rd consecutive season. Its been over 40 years since a threepeat championship has been achieved on the mats in Springfield and the Cougars did it by posting a perfect 30-0 league record. Springfield's undefeated league win streak now stands at 36 and dates back to the 2005-2006 season when the Cougars went 7-2 and finished in a tie for second place
This year, despite forfeiting one weight class for the majority of the season, the Cougars went 11-0 in the league (20-5 overall) and outscored their league opponents by a combined score of 540 - 208. This great accomplishment is a result of the fantastic coaching staff and the dedication and determination of the wrestlers. Best of luck to all the guys in the post season which begins in Sections on Feb 14 at Haverford HS
