Cougars 5 vs Fordtown 1
For 5 years boys, Coach Ron and myself have had one policy that we have stuck by. Always talk to you straight up. We do not sugar coat nothing. When you do something wrong we tell you about it. You do something right we tell you about it.
The Rebels game we played recently, I told you that that was the worst game I think I have ever been in. Well, last night that was the best game we have played all year long. We played a team that is undefeated in league play this year. They have beat the Tigers 5-4, 11U Cougars 9-0, TN Xpress 6-1, and 11U Hounddogs 15-2. We have been beaten by 3 of the 4 teams. We took them to a 1-1 ballgame in the 4th inning. We just let it get away from us in the 4th. Kyle Hosmer pitched a great game because he had a fantastic defense behind him. Zach Martin and David Ketron had some nice catches that could have dropped in the field of play. Do you know how many hits we had last night? ONE! Kyles Single. Thats it! But we had 11 at bats and only 2 strikeouts. That means out of 11 at bats 9 times we made contact with the ball. We put it in the field of play 9 times. They had great defense or it was just hit to someone. We need to keep swinging the bats and sooner or later those hit balls will drop for base hits. If we keep playing like we did last night teams are going to start paying attention. We still have the chance to turn this season around. Starting with a win or two at the Volunteer Tournament. We always play well at McPheeters Bend. Get a good nights sleep Friday because we have early games. Come with your game faces on and think of nothing but beating the team that is in front of us. I would think I am safe in saying for Coach Ron, Gibson, and Armstrong that we were very proud of the way you all handled yourselves on the field last night. Great Job!!! Lets have a fun weekend!!!
11U Cougars 10 vs. Fordtown 9
That was one of the most exciting games I have ever taken part in. For the first time this year I seen our players get into the game and play as a team. We showed a lot of heart and grit to come back from a 7-3 deficit and almost win this game. David Ketron and Logan Culhane both had a superb night on the mound. Both pitchers combined only walked two batters and had 10 strikeouts. We are almost there. Keep your heads up and dig in because we have these same boys Thursday at Indian Springs Community Center at 6PM. Please be there by no later than 5:30PM.
TN Xpress 17 vs. Fordtown 5
April 14, 2009 - 06:00 PM
With a 5 error 1st inning Fordtown fell behind 11-1. Only to give up 6 more runs the rest of the game. Losing 17-5. The first two games of the season we have given up 18 runs in the 1st inning and 7 the rest of the innings for both games. We have been beating ourselves from the door. We have to settle down and be game ready from the first pitch. Both Logan and Kyle pitched some pretty good games but our defense is lacking early. Our coaching staff has to find a way to settle our young team down from the get go and have them ready to play.
Now on a happier note. Our bats came alive tonight and we seen some pretty good hitting from Evan Gilliam who went 2-2 with a single & a double driving in 3 runs. Way to go Evan!! Nick Noel with his first game with us went 2-2 with 2 singles. Preston Gibson got his first single of the year and David Ketron got him another single to keep his batting average up. Good job to all of you!!!
One more note: Evan Gilliam made a great catch in the outfield and gunned a man down at 2nd to get our first double play of the year!! Its a start. Lets build off this.
Coaches and players we have batting practice Thursday from 6-8PM at Fordtown. Bring your sticks and be ready to hit some ball.

FORDTOWN TWISTERS 3 VS. HAWKINS COUNTY HOUNDDOGS 11
April 13, 2009 - 06:00 PM
After a shaky first inning Logan Culhane settled down and pitched a great ballgame but mixed in with a few errors and lack of the stick the Hounddogs came away with a 11-3 victory. It was a tough night for the boys but we all got to keep in mind that the Hounddogs have played a few tournaments and some league games already. They were game ready. This was the first game of the season for the Twisters and it showed. We have lots to work on. Give us a few games to gel and we will be where we need to be. The thing to remember is keep our heads up and improve every game. Learn from our mistakes and we can not fail. I promise.
Tomorrow we have another tough one in the TN Xpress. They are well coached and coming off a 6-3 victory over the Colonial Heights Rebels. They will push us to the limit. If we come out with aggressive bats and good fundamentals we will hang with this team. Our last ballgame with the Hounddogs is the first building block in our learning season. Lets add another block tomorrow but with better results. The Fordtown coaches have all the confidence in the world in you boys. Lets perform to our potential and we can come away with our first victory of the season.
See you tomorrow. Be ready to play.
Coach JB
