On this date in 1933 Giants pitcher Carl Hubbell pitched an 18~inning shutout against the Cardinals. In the following game of the doubleheader the Giants' Roy Parmelee struck out 13 and again held the Cards' scoreless. St. Luois lost both games 1~0 and went an amazing 27 innings without touching home.

On this date in 1966 Tony Cloninger of the Atlanta Braves became the first National League player, let alone pitcher, ever to hit two grand slams in one game. His nine RBIs also set a major league mark for pitchers, as Atlanta routed San Francisco Giants, 17~3.
