Game Highlights
June 14, 2009
The X-plosion has a great last game, beating the ASC Lightning 9-0! The game scoring began in only the 4th minute when center back Colleen took a direct kick from 20 yards out soaring her shot far post! The girls continued to show great skill and combination play; maintaining possession and looking for opportunities instead of forcing shots. Goal 2 came when Isabella beat 4 defenders crossing from the right to find Anna who nailed home her shot! Numerous breakaways continued with Jess, Ash and Isabella scoring off well played balls from the defense and midfield. At half time the game was 4-0.
The X-plosion continued the pressure in the 2nd half. Ri-ri played extremely well at right mid. She was tenacious and showcased her great skill improvement. Ri-ri tallied a goal 2 minutes into the 2nd half when she received a pass from the left, beat a defender and shot a perfectly placed ball in the net! The X-plosion defense were able to play up today, with Colleen, Lucia, Vanessa, Natalia, Emma and Claire finding players on the outside to sustain team shape. Katie was able to try center mid today and did well to find the mids down the wing.
The girls attempted to maintain possession and lay off scoring with 30 minutes left in the 2nd half; however the flood gates were open. Isabella converted off a corner kick from Jess, finishing her half volley shot to stun the ASC keeper. The last 25 minutes, the girls diligently choose to try out moves and keep possession instead of scoring. Emi touched the ball 3 times during the game, collecting long boots down the field from the ASC team. The girls maintained great sportsmanship turning around from breakaways numerous times (8). Everyone played well today as our last game of the season was our last game 8 v. 8. Scorers today included, Colleen (1), Anna (1), Ri-ri (1), Isabella (2), Jess (2), and Ash (2). At the end of the season, 10 players contributed goals, what an accomplishment girls!
***The player(s) of the game today were Anna and Ri-ri. This was Anna’s last game with X-plosion as she is moving to Florida. Anna scored today, played extremely well at left mid and continued to showcase her unselfish and smart play. Anna’s crosses showed improved power today and she played her position well, we will miss you Anna! Ri-ri played a stellar game! She fought through every ball winning possession to thread passes through to her teammates making runs. Ri-ri continues to play with improved confidence and power and scored a goal today! Well done girls!!!***
