LIONS REFUSE TO SURRENDER, REFUSE TO ADMIT DEFEAT, NOW CALL THEM THE 2009 2A WEST REGION CHAMPIONS

Walkersville, MD 5/15/2009 - Down 4-0 after 1 inning, most teams acknowledge the inevitable. Not this years Walkersville Lions. With a flair for the dramatics, these young Lions fought back to beat the North Hagerstown Hubs 8-5 in ten innings.

Joey Zuniga came to mound in the second inning and kept the Hubs scoreless, allowing just 2 hits, 0 walks and a record tying 15 strikeouts in 7 innings. Zuniga joins Troy Barrick in the record books from the 1990 team. Zuniga then handed to ball to Greg Dayhoff who mowed the Hubs down in the final 2 innings to earn the WIN.br>
Down 5-3 the Lions responded in the bottom of the 7th inning. Joey Zuniga walked, Eddie Shelton followed with a single between the 3rd baseman and shortstop. An errant throw allowed both runners to advance. Pinch hitter Ricky Pardo then lined a 2-2 count to right center driving in the tying runs. In the bottom of the 10th inning, Allan Etzler and Colin Mummert led off with back to back singles, followed by an Eric Wachter walk and a walk off RBI walk by Joey Zuniga to seal the victory.
