The Anderson Wrestling Team Wants You!! No experience needed----Just a desire to WIN! Most wrestlers begin the sport in high school.
The wrestling team is Anderson High School's most successful sport and we have now won the District 27 championship 14 years in a row!!! Help us win our 15th consecutive championship by becoming a part of our team! We need boys and girls of all sizes to help fill out our Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. There are many benefits from participating in the sport of wrestling: > Wrestling builds character. Winning at wrestling depends on hard work, courage, and mental toughness as much as athletic ability. Anyone can succeed at wrestling if they are willing to put their mind to it. Wrestlers learn the value of preparation and hard work and the role it plays in achieving one¡¦s life goals. What wrestlers learn on the mat can be transferred to real life experiences. Wrestlers are self-reliant, mentally and physically fit, have a great work ethic, and are self-disciplined, competitive and responsible. Wrestlers also tend to be goal oriented and very confident. > Wrestling provides a great opportunity for all size athletes. You will only compete against opponents that are your own weight. Our 103 lb. wrestler is just as important to the team as our 285 lb. wrestler. We need freshmen and sophomores to fill many of the lower weight classes, and you could have a chance to earn a varsity spot and varsity letter as a freshman. Boys weight divisions are 103, 112, 119, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 152, 160, 171, 180, 189, 215 and 285 pounds. Girls weight divisions are 95, 102, 110, 119, 128, 138, 148, 165, 185, and 215 pounds. >You will get in the best shape of your life. Wrestlers are perhaps the best-conditioned athletes of any sport. Every workout builds strength, endurance, agility, and aerobic fitness, and with it self confidence in one's body and physical abilities. > Wrestling teaches self-defense. Scholastic wrestling has been proven to be the most effective means of self-defense. The one thing nearly all champions of no-holds-barred and mixed martial arts sporting events have in common is their background in scholastic wrestling. Wrestling skills consistently win over karate, boxing, and other forms of self-defense. The wrestling season starts in early November after the end of football season and ends in February. There is very little cost to participating in wrestling. Practices are after school from 4:30 to around 6:00pm. Meets are generally Tuesday or Thursday nights, and on Saturdays. Interested? Please contact Coach Shawn Stoeffler at: sstoeffl@austinisd.org or 414-7920.

"I have seen first hand how wrestling has helped many players in the NFL-including the development of their upper body, hand control, and use of leg strength. Wrestling skills help a football player move quickly to the point of attack, putting one's body in position to neutralize a play, and take control of a match-up." ---Rich Gannon - Oakland Raider's Quarterback and 2001 Pro Bowl MVP
"If you decide to give wrestling a try, be prepared to get involved in a wildly exciting and exceptional activity. But be warned, the sport has a tendency to give tests first, then the lessons." ---Wade Schalles, 2x NCAA wrestling champion

Thanks to Pat Moore, we now have a FAQ section added. The FAQ section answers many of the questions prospective wrestlers and their parents have prior to joining the team. If you know of anyone that may be considering wrestling for the Trojans, please guide them to this document F.A.Q. Link.
