When Baseball was invented, whoever designed the baseball diamond must have been a genious. Most people think it was Abner Doubleday. However, historians say that Alexander Cartwright was the first to formalize a list of rules back in 1845, most of which still stand today. How in the world did Mr. Cartwright determine that 90 ft basepaths and 60 foot 6 inches  from the pitching rubber to home plate were the "best" dimensions? 164 years later, most baseball players are still thrown out by "a half step" and pitchers use the distance to home plate  to make balls defy the laws of physics!
