Hamstring Strain Stops Remontay in Oregon
June 26, 2011
Remontay's two year streak of good luck finally ran out Friday in Oregon at the USA Junior Nationals meet. In his first race of the weekend, Remontay felt a strong pull in his hamstring towards the end of the 100m prelim race. Remontay was still able to run 10.33 and place 2nd in the heat but was unable to run in the final two hours later due to he injury. He was also not able to warm-up well the next day to try to attempt the 200m. Video link below to his 100m race (Juniors Heat one lane one).
Although Remontay was disappointed with not having the chance at making the junior nationals team, he still had a great high school career and looks forward to a fun and successful career at Azusa Pacific.
Remontay was also named Gatorade High School Track Athlete of the Year in California. An awesome accomplishment. Head boys Coach Kevin Glaspy was also named San Gabriel Valley Track Coach of the Year while Remontay was the SGV Athlete of the Year.

Dream 100m Preview
He Does It Again!!!
June 5, 2011
Remontay McClain has made history. In a near impossible feat, Remontay McClain becomes only the second person in California history to win back-to-back state championships in the 100 & 200 meters. His dominating performance in the 100m was the largest margin of victory since electronic timing has been used (1977). In the 200, rival BeeJay Lee took an early lead but was then overtaken by McClain in the straight and pulled away. Remontay's 20 points at the state meet gave Covina High another consecutive 5th place finish in the state meet. Remontay's season continues next week in New York City as he competes versus the "other" 8 fastest high school sprinters in the nation in the Adidas Dream 100m next Saturday. Stay tuned for broadcast info on that meet and video from the state meet. (photos in STATE MEET ALBUM 2011)

Colts End League Season With Red Devils
April 26, 2011
On a beautiful Tuesday afternoon the Colts took on the Pomona Red Devils in the Valle Vista League finale. Pomona had few numbers to keep pace with the Colts in what turned into a rout on all three levels. The girls took control early with a nice win in the 4x100 by Ashli Baddorf, Sydnie Williams, Amena Williams, and Erika Tornero. A sweep in the 1600 showed that the depth was just not there for Pomona. On the boys varsity side, Mike Jarquin and Demetrus Taylor led the 1-2-3 punch in the pole vault each clearing 11'6" and 11'0" respectively. The boys frosh-soph team will be outright league champions with Northview losing to Baldwin Park and Pomona really didn't have much to face against the frosh-soph boys. The team will continue next week with league prelims on Tuesday 5/3 and league finals 5/5 all at Baldwin Park HS. The cost to watch in $5 for adults and $3 for children. This meet will conclude the season for much of the team that do not qualify for CIF competition the next week.
San Gabriel Valley Championships!
April 23, 2011
In a meet featuring the best in the SGV, the Covina Colts had some standout performances and many personal bests. Distance runner/sprinter Ashli Baddorf had a standout day running a personal best in the 800 and inched closer to one of the older school records at CHS in the girls varsity 800. She also helped the girls 4x100 to a season best time. Deven Thompson showed why he is one of the best sophomore jumpers in the state by easily winning the frosh-soph long jump and triple jump. Emily Sanchez came within inches of the school record in the triple jump and Gevontray Ainsworth has personal bests in both hurdle races. Remontay continued his dominance breakin his own meet records from last year and easily winning both of his individual events and anchoring the boys 4x100 to victory as well. In the field events, Justin Turner had a great personal best in the frosh-soph shot and so did Dre Mercado in the pole vault. Next week, the team takes on Pomona on TUESDAY at home. The following week will be league prelims and finals on 5/3 and 5/5.

Colts Split With Saints!
April 21, 2011
The Colts and Saints girls team battled back and forth all afternoon in a dual for 2nd place in the Valle Vista League. In the end, the Saints came out narrowly on top by the closest of margins 69-67. The Colts were tough in the triple jump, pole vault, and hung strong in the throws, but the Saint sprinters were too much to handle in the end. On the boys side, the Colts dominated both the varsity and frosh-soph levels. The distance teams swept every event! Next week the Colts take on the Pomona Red Devils at home in the final league dual meet of the year.
This Saturday, athletes who qualified for the San Gabriel Valley Championships will compete against the best in the area for bragging rights and area supremacy. The meet runs from 10am-7pm.

Colts Beat, Tie, and Fall to Vikes!
April 6, 2011
In a meet filled with upsets, great finishes, and startling performances, the Covina Colts and Northview Vikings put on quite a show for all in attendance for this rivalry dual meet between district schools. The boys varsity narrowly pulled off a victory, the girls varsity lost for the first time to Northview in over 25 years, and the FS boys battled to a stalemate tie with the young Viking squad. Starting with the boys varsity, the team looked to be out of sync early as Northview pulled off early wins in the 1600, high jump, and swept the 110 hurdles. The Colts then came storming back with a big victory in the 400 by Remontay who stepped up in distance, then that was followed by a sweep in the long jump by Charles Cooper, Kyle Chiu, and Deven Thompson who also later swept the triple jump led by Cooper with a huge 43+ foot jump. The turning point also came when throwers Omar Maldonado and Anthony Kaites pulled off some points in the discus. The Northview girls team, led by a talented group of seniors, pulled off the first girls victory over Covina in modern recent memory. The FS boys battled all day long to a literal tie that came down to just a few inches separating the two teams. Altogther, it was a mixed day of emotions for both teams, however an outstanding meet to watch and be a part of.

The girls varsity athlete of the meet was San Dimas stud Katherine Salcido who ran 14.19 into a wind in the 100 hurdles and ranks her 3rd in CA. The boys dual between California 100m/200m state champ Remontay McClain and Nevada State Champ in the 400m Ladale Jackson came around in the 200m. Remontay edged Jackson in a battle on the turn then pulled away to win with a 21.85 time his best of the season into a -2.0 wind as well! Team winner were Northview in the FS division, Los Osos in the GV division, and Esperanza in the BV division.
