With last Thursday's Night League semi-final win over Reedsburg, Cross Plains found themselves in the Night League Championship Game. With Fort Atkinson defeating Verona in the other semi-final, it was determined that the Championship Game will be played at Baer Park. That game will take place tomorrow night, September 6 at 7:30pm.

Last night, Cross Plains defeated Orfordville 3-2 in a Night League game to claim the Southern Section title and advance to the Night League Semifinals.

All three of their runs came in the first inning. Derek Layton and Trevor Burmeister led of the first with back to back 4-pitch walks. After a Kodey Simon fielder's choice, Tyler Fuhrman and Romie Ripp had back-to-back RBI singles. Two batters later, Ripp scored on a throwing error by the catcher trying to turn the back end of a double play.

Both teams had plenty of opportunities to score as they combined to leave 18 runners on base. The turning point in the game was when Orfordville had the bases loaded and one out in the top of the fourth. Zach Jones hit a pop-up to Ripp at third base that was over foul territory before being brought back into fair. Ripp could not catch the ball as it landed right beyong the base. This lead to the Infield Fly Rule being in affect and the runners took off thinking they were forced. Ryan Schmitz was tagged out between second and third to end the inning. Joe Lange had crossed the plate before the tag so that ended up being the only run scored in the inning and Cross Plains leading 3-1. Orfordville scored one more in the fifth before Kodey Simon came in to the game in relief and shut them down for a two inning save.

With the win, Cross Plains is now in the Night League Semifinals. Even though they are undefeated, it is pre-determined which section will be at home and which ones will be on the road. With that, they will travel to Reedsburg next Thursday, August 30 for a 7:30pm game. The winner of that game will play the winner of Verona and Fort Atkinson the following week.
