    Meets

An athlete wishing to compete in any of the local club track meets as a CSA Track Club athlete must first become a member of the club. The competition season starts in late April, with local meets held generally each weekend through the end of May, and then qualifying meets each weekend through the end of July.

As information on each of these meets becomes available to the club, it will be relayed to the athletes during the team meeting that follows each practice and posted on the website.

At each meet, Young Men/Women, Intermediates, and Youths may compete in up to four (4) events, and Midgets, and Bantams may compete in up to three (3) events.

Note: The meets during April and May are usually open only to the four younger age groups (Youth, Midget, Bantam, and Sub-Bantam), since the older age groups are not allowed to compete until their high school seasons have completed. If an athlete wishes to enter an upcoming meet (except those few meets that don't require pre-registering through the club), he/she or a parent must contact Renise Freeman at (301) 404-6770. Please be prepared to give the athlete's name, age group (e.g. Intermediate Boys, Young Women, etc.), and desired events.

    USA Track & Field

USA Track & Field (USATF) is the national governing body of track & field. Before any athlete can compete in a USATF-sanctioned meet, whether as a member of the CSA Track Club or not, he/she must first become a member of USATF. All local meets in April and May are USATF-sanctioned meets. Included in the CSA Track Club membership fee is the cost of the athlete's USATF membership. Any athlete wishing to join the CSA Track Club must, after paying the club membership fee, complete a USATF membership application and return it to the club along with proof-of-age verification, such as a copy of a birth or baptismal certificate, state or military I.D. card, or driver's license. The athlete is encouraged to apply for their USATF membership as soon as possible to ensure that they have their USATF membership card (usually called a "USATF card" or sometimes, by summer track veterans, a "TAC card") in hand before their first meet.

    Amateur Athletic Union (AAU)

Athletes wishing to compete in AAU qualifiers leading to the AAU Junior Olympics will also need to become members of the AAU. This is not required of all CSA Track Club members, only those who compete in AAU meets. AAU membership will be handled on an athlete by athlete basis. See the coaches for more information.

    Practices

The 2009 CSA track practice season begins March 17, 2010 and ends in late July, 2010. Practices will be held at Clarksburg High School, 22500 Wims Road, Clarksburg, MD 20871 (off of Frederick Road).

Practice dates and times during March, April, and May will vary depending on Clarksburg High school activities calendar, although most practices will start at 6:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and be finished by approximately 7:30pm - 8:00pm. Check our Calendar page for the most up-to-date practice schedule once the season begins for any changes.

The 6:30 pm starting time is the actual time our workouts begin. Arrive at the track 10 to 15 minutes early to warm up and stretch so that you're ready to begin your workout at 6:30. Most practices will last about 60 to 75 minutes and may on occasion be followed by a mandatory team meeting where the coaches will share important club news, such as information on upcoming meets and practices and to recognize athlete accomplishments. If the athlete needs to leave practice early for any reason, it is their responsibility to inform the head coach at the beginning of practice. Each athlete MUST have a responsible adult present at the field for the duration of the practice.

In the event of inclement weather each athlete’s parent should make a decision, individually on whether or not to attend practice. If practice is cancelled, we will e-mail all athletes and parents, and post a notice on our website.

Practice attire should consist of comfortable, weather appropriate, running clothes and running shoes. Individuals should always bring plenty of water to every practice.
