Games set for Hermantown at 3:00 on July 19th (this Sunday)
The front office would like to remind everyone that we have a doubleheader in Hermantown this Sunday at 3:00. These could be the last games of the year so plan on being there. Also bring your bats and gloves and leave the errors and excuses at home.

Practice Thursday night at 6pm (as always). Lets have a good turnout!

    Morland behind the dish
Scott Morland strapped on the tools of ignorance for the first time all year, but looked like the vintage Scotty from the 90's. Morland also took a line drive off the inner thigh while in the on-deck circle....approximately 10 feet away, and didnt even flinch. That is why we call him scrap iron.

    Dont Turn at the Rock!!!
Just a reminder to all C&S Players and Fans that we play a double header in Oulu at 1:00 this Sunday. Dont turn at the rock, turn on Airport Rd. Also we are considering makeup games with the Lakers on Sunday July 19th with a 3:00 start.

As for hitting leaders, this week we had co-winners Coach and Cabbage put up .600 performances. Congrats to both of you.

Schmock takes one to the lip
June 25, 2009 Kody "Lip" Schmock is just not having a good week. First he decided to get rid of his farmers tan at work and wore a sleeveless shirt to show off his "guns". He got so sunburned that he could not even throw to warm up. Plus his arms were so full of spf 50 that he probably had bought out Walmart so if you are looking for sunscreen, go somewhere else, maybe even another state. Schmock known for his tailing side arm fastball and getting grounders to the sure bodied "cabbage" at 3rd base (who knows how to control his rebounds) then tried out his luck at shortstop in practice... And thats where it went wrong....terribly wrong... On a 1 and cover drill Schmock went to tag out a ghost runner on a throw from the versitle Cabbage who happpened to be behind the plate. Now Cabbage has not been officially clocked on the radar gun, but the hot wheels radar gun he got at walmart on clearence has him pegged out to be at least 23 mph. The throw was on line but a 1 hopper to the bag but took a terrible bounce and went straight up in to Kody's face. I guess it's too late to warn you that the image of Schmock may be a little graphic and not intended to be viewed by children, but it's too late now because you have already seen it. After Schmock spat out about a pint of blood it tried to go back onto the field but team doctors held him out for the rest of practice sting that the lip was too large and might restrict his view. Kody pleaded "cut me coach cut me" but it had no effect. A little ice and things should be fine and we sent him packing.

Practice will be at 6:00 next Thursday. We need a good turnout, hope to see everyone there.

C&S Drains Boilers - Article From Ashland Daily Press
June 18, 2009 C&S Design sweeps twinbill from Port Wing
    Baseball roundup
Published: Monday, June 15, 2009 10:55 AM CDT
C&S Design pounded out 27 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Port Wing in Upper 13 action Sunday at Pufall Field.

John Sopiwnik tossed a six-hitter in a 12-2 victory in the opener, while emergency starter Niles Fetter allowed just four hits in a 13-2 win in the nightcap. Jake Schraufnagel's grand slam broke open the second game.

In the first game, RBI singles by Fetter and Sopiwnik highlighted a four-run second inning as C&S Design (5-1) went up 5-1. Sopiwnik belted a run-scoring triple in a five-run third inning, and he scored on a single by Schraufnagel.
Sopiwnik walked one and fanned six. Sopiwnik, Scott Morland and Ben Hatinger each had two hits.

Jared Gustafson took the loss for the Boilers (1-5), working three innings and allowing one walk with three strikeouts. Derek Jardine worked one inning, and John Trybis finished up. Jardine and Matt Bailey each had two hits.

Kody Schmock was set to start the nightcap on the mound for C&S Design, but a sore arm kept him off the hill. Fetter survived a shaky first inning and settled down to get the win.

Morland's two-run double in the third put C&S Design up 4-2. Schraufnagel then belted a grand slam in the fourth as the lead grew to 8-2. Sopiwnik had an RBI single in the fifth, and Matt Hulmer followed with an RBI double. Hatinger ended the game in the sixth inning with a two-run double.

Fetter walked three and fanned five. Morland and Tom Schraufnagel both had three hits in a 17-hit attack. Sopiwnik, Jake Schraufnagel, Brett Beeksma and Beau Hulmer each added two hits.

John Rautio went the distance for the Boilers, walking one and fanning three.

C&S Design hosts the Ashland Merchants Sunday.

    Coach/Nails take BP Honors
June 4, 2009 In the last two weeks we have had 2 new winners of the Pete Schraufnagel BP Award. Coach went for a record tying .800 average. Hitting for average is nothing new to the Shraufnagel family as both Steve and son Jake hold Upper 13 batting titles.

Fetter on the other hand may be lesser known with the stick. Predominantly a pitcher and utility player Niles has shown he can be an asset at the plate for the Protractors.

    C&S Spills Padres Holy Water
May 26, 2009 Article from Ashland Daily Press

    • At C&S Design 5, 15, Proctor 2, 0 — C&S Design (3-1) got strong pitching performances from Kody Schmock and John Sopiwnik in a sweep of the Padres (0-2).

Schmock struck out 13 and walked three in the opener while allowing seven hits. Sopiwnik fanned 11 with no walks in the nightcap on a three-hit shutout. C&S Design scored three runs in the first inning of the opener and pushed its lead to 5-0 with two more runs in the third. Ricky Bretting, Jake Schraufnagel and Blake Ellefson each had two of C&S Design's nine hits. Corey Pavlich and Chris Musolf each had two hits for the Padres. C&S Design had only five hits in the nightcap and broke the game open with a nine-run second inning. Sopiwnik had two hits, and he and Bretting each scored three runs.

C&S Design goes to Superior June 7 for a doubleheader. Proctor visits the Ashland Merchants Sunday.

SNAP INTO SOME PROVOST OHHH YEAH!
Trevor "Hoover" Provost still hast "it". In a competition at practice last night it was all about the numbers and Trevor's numbers are bigger than anybody else's. Trevor went an astonishing 4 for 5 giving him a .800 average.

Provost gave all the credit to his sofa. "All I do is watch Billy Hall. The guy hits great and when I get up there I just imagine what Billy Hall does and I do the same. Really, I think our swings are identical." - Provost boasted.

For Trevor's fine performance at practice the front office has come up with a great prize package. Two front row seats at this weekends home games against Proctor. When asked how he felt about the prize he said "I think I will have to put them up on stub hub because for one: the Brewers are playing and I cant miss a Billy Hall at bat, and two: my kid has a grad party."

Good luck with that Hoover, and congrats!

C&S Splits With Bayside Vipers - Article From Ashland Daily Press
May 17, 2009 C&S Design, Vipers split doubleheader
Published: Monday, May 18, 2009 12:04 PM CDT
SUPERIOR — Opening their Upper 13 baseball season with a doubleheader, Ashland C&S Design came away with a split decision against the Bayside Vipers Sunday.

Bayside held on for a 3-2 victory in the first game, as Ashland couldn’t cash in on its chances. In game two, C&S Design bounced back for a 5-1 win.

Ashland had plenty of runners in scoring position in the first game but couldn’t come up with any key hits. C&S Design loaded the bases in the second and third innings and came up empty and had runners at second and third in the fourth. The Vipers, meanwhile, strung together four straight hits in the third to plate two runs with Marcus Besonen and Bob Eastman driving them home. Bayside added an unearned run in the sixth that wound up looming large.

With C&S Design down to their final out in the seventh, John Sopiwnik delivered a two-run double. However, he was thrown out at third on the play to end the game.

Ashland, which stranded 13 runners, had nine hits with Brett Beeksma, Blake Ellefson and Sopiwnik each getting a pair. The loss went to Sopiwnik, who allowed six hits and thre walks, fanning seven. Corey Verhel was 2-for-4 for Bayside. Besonen was the winning pitcher.

In the second game, C&S Design got a four-hit complete game from Kody Schmock, who struck out four and walked two. Ashland scored in the second when Ellefson came in on Ben Hatinger’s two-out single. Jake Schraufnagel then doubled in two more in the third to make it a 3-0 game. While the Vipers got back within 3-1 after Casey Morsette led off the fifth with a triple and scored on a wild pitch, Ashland sealed matters with two runs in its half of the inning. Matt Hulmer, Schraufnagel and Scott Morland all had two hits each for Ashland, which finished with eight hits. The loss went to Adam McKowski.

C&S Design will host Proctor in a twinbill Sunday at 1 p.m. Bayside hosts Superior Sunday and will be at Port Wing Monday.

“I think it is significant that Wisconsin’s students, teachers and schools are recognized for their devotion to education and learning,” said Tom Wittkamper, president of the Wisconsin Council of Religious and Independent Schools.
