Barclays Donation to Edison Angels
February 26, 2013
Edison Angels was one of 20 recipients of a donation from the Barclays PGA Tournament. In August 2012, the Barclays PGA Tournament was held at the Plainfield Country Club in Edison. Barclays made a donation to charitable and volunteer organizations within Edison. Each organization had to provide verification of their tax-exempt status in order to be considered for the donation. On January 8, 2013, in the Edison Township Council chambers, Mayor Ricigliano and Plainfield Country Club President, Paul Sauchelli, made the presentation.
History of Edison Angels
With the permission of the US Army, the Edison Angels was started in the 1970's as a place for the young girls of Edison to play recreational softball. Over a 20 year period, the league expanded from one open field to five fenced fields with dugouts. In its 30+ years of existence the Angels have grown from a straight recreational softball league with all-star teams to a top notch recreational program and competitive travel program. The Angels have captured many ASA state and regional titles in its rich history. The Angels field five travel teams in 5 age divisions ranging from 10u to 18u, occasionally fielding an 8u team. The Edison Angels is an ASA league that has played Pony, NSA, and FAST National tournaments. Our complex is considered one of the best in the state and we have played host to many college showcases as well as college games over the years.
