    **********************GET THE FEVER!!!********************
    ************************JUMP AROUND!!*********************

A special Thanks to Coach Gil Payne & assistants, Ryan Presnell and Adam Copeland for keeping alive the Dream. The Dream of a Cyclone revival through hard work and determination. This entire TEAM could always depend on each other. Lean on each other. These coaches and players love one another. THANKS for the memories!!

5-18 at The Joe.....A tough night for the Cyclones at The Joe. Gibbs walked away with an earned trip to the 'Boro. The Cyclones season came to a hault with a 9-3 defeat at the hands of an excellant Eagles team. The Eagles pitcher, Drew Housewright, is the real deal. He pitched an awesome game but the Cyclones did bang out 10 hits vs. 15 for Gibbs. Elizabethton was roughed up a bit, but did alot of things that Champion Teams do well. They played tough and battled to the very last out with the Heart of this City on thier chest. These guys love Elizabethton High School and they love thier home town but most of all they love thier fans for all of the support they have had the last two years. What a run....... NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN!

5-16-07 Skipper Gil Payne after his TEAM's Region 1 Championship victory...."It is really amazing what these guys have accomplished over the last two years and it's always someone different every night. There's no star on this team."

    TEAM!!!

Wednesday 5-16 at The Joe.....Finely Tuned, these Cyclones were as they rolled District 2 Champion Rutledge, 9-1. Burleson controlled the Pioneer bats (4 hitter) as his DEFENSE and STICKS (10 hits) piled up on thier opponent. You could see the focus of these Cyclones as they pulled in the school's First Ever Region 1 Class AA Baseball Championship. Stepping up. This TEAM is stepping up for thier school & for the City of Elizabethton. 'GAME ON' for Friday night @ 7P vs. Corryton Gibbs, the runner up in Region 2, with a trip to State on the line. Gibbs is a highly respected team that has carried a state ranking through the season, just as have the Cyclones. They will bring their star lefty, Housewright to The Joe and will see, probably, ROB DAVENPORT! Shaping up to be a great ballgame!!

Monday 5-14 at The Joe.......THE CYLONES WERE 'GAME ON' MONDAY NIGHT AS THEY PUT THE Pigeon Forge Tigers to rest, 3-0. Rob Davenport tossed a 4 hitter at the Tigers and kept them off balance all night long. And a long night it was for Pigeon Forge's hurler, Bradley Harveston, a hard throwing right hander. DEFENSE (2 DPs) and timely HITTING (8 hits) were key to the Cyclone attack. You can't name enough names to do this team's game justice. They all took a part in this action as they defeated a trully awesome team. Now comes our neighbors of the west, Rutledge. A very good team and a fantastic challenge for this group of Fighting Cyclones. Game Time Wednesday....... 7PM (time to be verified)at The Joe here in Elizabethton. BE THERE!!!

    2007 DISTRICT 1 CHAMPIONS!!

It wasn't about Respect this year. That was earned last year under first year Head Skipper Gil Payne. This year it is about a Mission. Step 1 COMPLETE!

The Cyclones now OWN District 1 and our Drew Hyder now OWNs the MVP title, winning that honor back to back. Along with Drew taking the '06 & '07 MVP honor, Sr. Blake Hopson, Jr. Cody Marley and So. 'Dewy' Dunbar were tabbed with All-Tournament team honors. These young men showed the way throughout the tournament and the TEAM followed thier lead. Guys like Rob Davenport, who pitched a heck of a game vs. CD. Guys like J-Rod Payne, Preston Smith, Cory Hilton, Austin Taylor, Wes Anderson, Josh Hutchins, Weston Issacs, Scott Burleson and the rest of the Fighting Cyclones of Elizabethton High. This '07 group has tied the record set by last year's squad with 26 wins. BUT.......mission not accomplished yet. Work to be done. This is a TEAM!!

COACH GIL PAYNE after the JJ Kelly win.... "This is a great group of young men that I enjoy being around and they enjoy one another. They don't worry about individual stats, they are just concerned about being a Cyclone!"

Drew Hyder after the JJ Kelly win.... "This team refuses to quit! The Coaches taught us to play until the final pitch and that is what we did."

WES ANDERSON on the upcoming 2007 season.... "I just want to PROVE to everyone that LAST SEASON'S SUCCESS WASN'T A FLUKE!"

05/07/2006 Coach Gil Payne..... "We know we're not a home run team and we don't try to hit them. We just try to put it in play, put the pressure on the defense and it's fun to watch."

05/07/2006 Coach Payne on the team.... "We've got so much speed. They play the game of baseball the way it's meant to be played. I told them the very first day that we're not going to be stupid, but we are going to be aggressive. They do what you ask them to do and they enjoy doing it."

    2007 IS HERE!

    ELIZABETHTON CYCLONES BASEBALL

2006 was a long hard season and there is still work to be done, but we need to thank Coach Gil Payne, assistants Ryan Presnell, Adam Copeland and Mike Crumley for all of the hours they have put in throughout last season to bring PRIDE and a feeling of ACCOMPLISHMENT to the Cyclones' players and fans.

2007 - Year #2 of the Coach Gil Payne ERA.
January 11, 2007 - 09:00 PM The players and the community of Elizabethton were excited as Gil Payne began his tenure with the Cyclones in 2006. Coach Gil Payne is a welcome addition to the baseball program and carries a successful resume' with him. His last stint was with Brevard Community College and the Cyclones are fortunate to obtain a coach of his caliber to lead the baseball team. Coach Payne also tends the duties of Athletic Director for the Cyclones sports programs. He was an AD at two seperate colleges.

Coach Payne also brings back assistants Ryan Presnell and Adam Copeland. Coach Presnell is an Elizabethton alumni as is Coach Copeland. Presnell played ball at Furman University while Copeland played with the Bucs of ETSU. Coach Mike Crumley, a former team-mate of Coach Payne, is on the staff to lead the Junior Varsity team.
