The Heat basketball program is an AAU traveling team. We play in tournaments in Oregon, Washington, and all across the Northwest. We play against the best teams, with the best players in the Northwest. We normally play about 60 games per season. (For example, our 2006-07 8th grade team played 56 games this season with a 42-14 record.) Our 2005-06 8th grade team took 2nd in the AAU State Championships. Currently, we have four of our ex-Heat players playing college basketball, (Dominique Waters, Antoine Williams, Dante Bryant, and Markuri Sanders-Frison.) Head Coach Jeffrey Fields has a 427-146 win/loss coaching record in the last 10 years. The Heat has become one of the top youth basketball programs in the Porland/Vancouver area.

    Heat Basketball History

1993/94 – Started as an after school program at Vernon & Irvington Elementary Schools for Operation E.A.S.Y. with Dr. Sobomehin.

1994/97 – Became a combined program with Operation E.A.S.Y. and Maranatha Church which included mentoring and working with the youth at Vernon, Irvington, Whitaker, Tubman, and Beaumont middle schools. During this time the team was called the Baby Bulls & the Lakers.

1995/96 – The Bulls became Portland's First Midnight basketball team for YMCA Midnight Basketball Program, than the team started playing in the Portland Parks Drug Free League.

1998 – Team name changed to the MC/Vernon Heat. At that point The MC/Vernon Heat started playing in the Oregon Prep, & Hoop Leagues.

1999 – Director/Coach Jeffrey Fields took a break from the program due to death of Father.

2000 – Jeff started working with youth at Vernon, Whitaker, Tubman and Beaumont. He met Steve Wick through one of the Heat players who attended Tubman, and also was a Friends of the Children youth. At this time The Heat was in need of an assistant coach. Steve came to one of the Heat practices. From there Jeffrey Fields & Steve Wick started coaching and working together.

2000/2001 The Heat Team became an AAU basketball team that traveled to Seattle, Yakima, Eugene, and California.

The Heat Team has become one of the top basketball programs in the state. Over the last 10 years, our program has a win-loss record of 427-146. (That's a .745 winning percentage)

The Heat program is sponsored through Maranatha Community Youth Outreach. As of 2008. The Heat Basketball Program is now in partnership with, RUN IT BACK SPORTS. This makes us a year round in state out of state AAU traveling program, for AAU Baseball, Basketball, & Soccer Winter, Spring,
    & Summer Teams.
