High Voltage Honored as the
2012 Cheer and Dance Extreme
Program of the Year!
Truth, Justice and HVA! This was the slogan for the High Voltage All Stars Relay for Life team this year (a fundraising event benefiting the American Cancer Society) and it hits close to home. The owners, coaches, athletes and families at High Voltage are certainly super heroes in our book.
High Voltage is the culmination of a life-long love of cheerleading from its founders (and sisters), Kathy Brown and Justine Lathbury. They bring to High Voltage a sense of family that in turn, provides athletes the opportunity to excel and shine in a sport they love.
HVA is an all volunteer organization that prides itself on coming together as a team to not only help each athlete reach their individual and team goals, but to give back to the community. These athletes put in countless hours at practice perfecting their skills, but they also give of themselves by volunteering for the American Cancer Society, The Salvation Army, adopting local soldiers serving overseas and making blankets for the homeless through a project called the “Blessing of Blankets” (which was started by one of our athletes). Even though they were one of the smallest teams at the Cheer for Charity Event last month in Delaware, they were able to come together to raise the most money for the A.I. Dupont Children’s Hospital and win the Chairman’s Cup Award.
High Voltage added a special needs team to their line up this season. The HVA family worked tirelessly to win a $10,000 Pepsi Refresh Grant to have the opportunity to bring their love of the sport to those who might not have the chance otherwise. The Extreme Danger team has brought so much joy and fulfillment to the organization. Many of our Senior athletes have volunteered to help coach and be cheer buddies to the members of the team. We love to watch them compete! They prove that cheerleading is something that anyone can do and enjoy.
I am thrilled to report that in their first two years, High Voltage has won a Maryland State Championship title, two National Championship titles, two Grand Champion awards, two Most Spirited Fans Awards and a Extreme Judges Award, but it is even more heartwarming to see the successes accomplished off the mat. Learning to put TEAM first, making lasting friendships, showing good sportsmanship, working hard to achieve goals and supporting each other…win or lose. At High Voltage All Stars they are teaching these life lessons and more.
For these reasons and more, High Voltage All Stars is the Cheer and Dance Extreme Program of the Year!
