Impact99 -Nike 14 opened up the Spring season by winning the 6v6 Gold division at the Stones River Futbol Club Spring Shootout.  Nike14 overwhelmed the clubs from SRFC, KAOS, Huntsville, and Jackson with a 4-0 record and outscored the competition a combined 20 – 2.

Nike 14 is coached by Chris Hendry.  “Nike 14 had an absolutely dominating performance.  The combination of footskills, speed, conditioning, aggressiveness, positioning, spacing, and passing is truly exceptional for a U9 team at this point in the season.  While we are excited about winning the tournament, I am even more enthusiastic about the level of individual skill and poise they demonstrated with the ball.  Our Winter skills program was top notch and certainly has paid off.  I also appreciated the competitive effort, focus, and intensity of the players.  By continuing to focus on optimizing each player’s skillful potential through a positive, competitive environment, everything else will take care of itself.”  Congratulations to all the girls for a great weekend.  It was a lot of fun."

Impact USA - Nike Academy Coach Betsy Machen , "It was a nice weekend for the Impact Academy girls.  The Impact USA Academy training system is unique and very effective for individual development. We had players from all three (3) age groups mixed together and competing on age or playing up based on their skill and abilities and not necessarily there age.

Next week at the Kaos tournament we will have different girls playing up in age and our rosters may be completely different in an effort to create different learning opportunities and challenges for the players.

Impact USA - Nike Academy coach Chris Van Atta, "Its great that we won the three (3) youngest age groups and played creative, skillful, attacking soccer while doing it.  As coaches, we teach, train, and stress over and over the need to be individually skilled and composed on the ball.  Our players have totally bought into those concepts and work hard at practice and on their own.  The composure and advanced skill level for all the players was evident this weekend.   Besides coaching them, I truly enjoyed watching them play.  They were great."

    IMPACT Partners with Nike

The Nike Corporation has formed a partnership with the Impact and the Impact has been given the status as an "Elite Club." This designation places the Impact among the elite soccer organizations in the country.

"Nike is proud to work with elite clubs and athletes around the country who are working to reach the highest levels of their sports," said Russell Patmore. "We are delighted to welcome the Impact into the Nike family."

As a Nike Elite club, the Impact receives uniform and equipment discounts, access to Nike-sponsored tournaments, programs and events, and relationships to the U.S. National program.

"This is a great opportunity for the players of this club," says Impact Executive Director Jon Schneider.

"Over the past five years we've worked hard to assemble an excellent coaching staff and a cohesive development program."

"We've seen great results in our dozen state titles and the success of Impact players at the college level."

"This relationship with Nike gives the players in our club more and better opportunities to develop themselves at the highest levels."

Since it was founded in Knoxville in 2001, the Diadora Impact has fielded 12 state championship and nine state finalist teams while launching sister clubs in Northeast and Middle Tennessee.

The award as a Nike Elite Club comes as the club is rechristening itself as the Impact United Soccer Association, or Impact USA, and formalizing its status as a club serving much of the state of Tennessee.

"We are very excited about this recognition," says Impact President Randy Denton, a physician in Kingston, Tennessee, whose four daughters have all played for the club.

Says DOC Laban DeFriese, "this was one of the more competitive u9 tournaments you will find anywhere. The Gold division had Impact, TNFC Premier, Lady Kaos, Lexington FC, and Stones River. The games were very competitive.

Our goal was to win the championship, but 2nd place was the best we could do this time. Lady Kaos played very well and deserved to win the tournament. Our girls competed hard, played well, and overall had a great time. Thats really about all you can ask. Im pleased with the effort."

Impact vs. TNFC Premier (1-1) tie

17 Seniors from Impact 88 Premier (u18) girls sign college scholarships
17 of 17 Seniors from the Impact 88 Premier (u18) girls team have college scholarship offers. 16 of the 17 have officially committed and/or already signed scholarship papers with only one (1) Carlyn Davis still undecided. The only other player undecided is Junior Carrie Smith who is already on many college lists but not allowed to sign until next year. Carrie would make it a complete team sweep. 18 for 18 signing college scholarships.

The list includes, Meagen Forrester (Vanderbilt), Grace Lawson (U. of Alabama), Mellissa Rose (U. of California Santa Barbara), Britta Bryne (U. of Georgia), Taryn Holland (Miss. State), Sarah Defatta (Southern Miss.), Paige Lanter (Samford), Morgan Thomas and Marissa Yenni(Western Kentucky), Monica Dunham (Austin Peay), Jenna Achten (Lee College), Carly Turnidge (Westpoint Academy), Lauren Paul (U. of Massachussets), Maggie Mccauphlin (Appy State), Kellyn Robison (Murray State), and Jennifer St. Clair (Belmont).

DOC Laban DeFriese says, "I couldnt be happier for the girls. Its interesting, when they were twelve (12), it was one of our goals to have all our players ready to make their High School Team by the time they were freshman. We accomplished that goal easily. By the time they got to high school, they were ready to not only make the team but start varsity for most of them. Only certain coaches down right ignorance kept a few from starting varsity. They all were capable.

Next, it was one of our goals starting at age 15 to have every girl in a position to get a college scholarship by the time of her senior year. Each year we worked toward that goal doing the training and competing necessary to get the girls the opportunities. To have 17 players from one team to be offered college scholarships shows how special this team is and how hard they have worked.

Now they have six (6) straight state championships and college scholarships to cap off their career. To set a seven (7) year plan in motion and methodically accomplish our goals every year has been a wonderful experience for all of us.

Now that college is a settled issue for everyone, we will get busy on our last remaining goal. A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP 2006. We may not be the favorite considering how strong New Jersey is, but I wouldnt bet against us this year."

    2006 3v3 national u8 championship
In January 2006, Diadora u8 academy girls won five (5) games and lost one (1) at the 2006 3v3 national championship in Orlando, FL. This earned them a 3rd place finish at the event held at the Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando,FL.

Says DOC Laban DeFriese, "What a great, positive, soccer experience for the girls. In a no pressure, age appropriate, competitive environment, they got to meet, hang out with, and compete against other advanced recreation level players and teams their own age from all over the country.

We also went to Universal Studios and the theme Parks. The girls had a blast playinng soccer and had a blast away from the field as well. During the games, it was fun to watch them experiment and consistently execute the new ball skills they have learned this fall. The other coaches and parents were so complimentary of the girls. I couldnt be happier with the way they competed, demonstrated sportsmanship, and handled themselves as young athletes."

U18 Impact Player makes ALL-AMERICAN TEAM
Meagen Forrester of the u18 Diadora Lady Impact, Vanderbilt Signee, and senior at Pope John Paul II, makes the 2005-2006 Girls Adidas High School All-American Soccer Team.

In 2005, Meagen helped lead Diadora Impact 88 Premier to their 6th straight snickers cup State Championship, as well as, lead Pope John Paul to a DII High School State Championship and an Addidas #1 National High School Ranking. AKA..High School National Championship.

Says DOC Laban DeFriese on Forrester, "Its simple really, Meagen is one of the best players to come out of Tennessee in a long time. She is a tremendous play maker, has a great work ethic, and very coachable. She worked really hard on becoming a strong soccer player and deserves everything she gets. Vanderbilt got the total package when they signed Meagen."

Impact U18 Girls win GIT College Showcase 05
On December 13th and 14th, 2005, the Diadora Impact- DeFriese u18 girls win their second tournament in a row this fall by capturing the GIT College Showcase Championship Gold division. A remarkable feat considering the team did it with only 11 players for the second tournament in a row. Sickness and injuries have kept 7 players from participating, but it hasnt kept the team from beatin all challengers and winning both tournaments in convincing fashion they have played this fall.

Says head coach Laban DeFriese, "For the girls to beat the caliber of teams they beat this weekend with only 11 players is another testament to the character and resolve these players and this team possesses. Ive seen all the top Tennessee girls teams over the last 14 years, and I truly believe this years u18 diadora team is now one of the most dangerous scoring teams Tennessee has ever seen.

We have always defended well as a team, but with adding five (5) speedy, Division I college bound, attacking goal scoring type players to our team, (Paige Lanter (Samford U.), Britta Byrne (U. of Georgia), Mellissa Rose (U.of Tennessee) are new) with (Monica Dunham (Austin Peay) and Grace Lawson (U. of Alabama) back from injuries), we now have serious attacking speed and depth up front and on the flanks to go with it.

I feel like we can create a dangerous scoring opportunity every time we win the ball. I have never felt like that about any team cause scoring and getting good looks is not that easy against the high level of teams we play. But i really feel that way with this group right now. The speed and depth in our front six is simply exciting.

We played 4 solid teams this weekend. This isnt a knock on anyone we played, but not one team, including the #18 nationally ranked Vader III from MI, could keep us from consistently getting in behind their defense and creating good scoring chances the whole game. I'm not saying were the greatest team in America, but i do believe whoever we play (including anyone in the top ten national rankings), will need to be playing very well to keep us out of the net."

Impact '96 U10 Blue - DeFriese Win Prestigious GIT in Nov. 2005
    GIT November, 2005 Champions

Diadora Impact 96 Blue - DeFriese wins the Championship in the Gold Division (top bracket) at the GIT 2005 Soccer Tournament. Impact beat the top 10 year old team from St. Louis, MS, a very strong Tony Glavin - Green team in the finals 2-1.

In group play, Impact also beat #16 nationally ranked Tophat Gold 2-0, Memphis Fury - Spinolas 15-0, and Kentucky's Athletico Flames 5-0.

Says DOC Laban Defriese, "Ill be honest, this group of Elite Diadora Lady Impacters is as good as anyone anywhere. When we put our 4 premier teams statewide together for 8v8 or 11v11, i think we are #1 in region III right out of the gates.

We seek out the best teams from the top soccer states to show the high level caliber of soccer we play at Diadora and in Tennessee. Im very pleased with the advanced progress of this Diadora age group statewide. Its a special group of young talented players that i look forward to watching develop into champions."

    Academy Players in Atlanta Tournament
Academy players did awesome in the u9/10 GSA Club Academy tournament 12/3-4/05.

u18 Girls win Veterans Day Tournament
U18 girls win Veterans Day Tournament on Noveber 12-13, 2005 defeating the Evansville Elite 2-0 in the finals. This was an tough feat considering the Diadora girls had to play the final game with only 10 players. They played the first three games with 11 players until an injury sidelined Marrissa Yenni and forced her to miss the Championship Game. The team gave up no goals in four (4) games.

Says Head Coach Laban Defriese, "This is our best team ever. This year, we added so much talent to a team that has already won 6 state championships its scary. I expect us to win Regionals this year and seriously compete for the national championship. That is our goal and #1 priority. We have been close 3 times in the past to going all the way. We will not be satisfied with anything less than a region and national championship this time around."
