The Holy Ghost Prep and Pennsbury players, respectively, will represent the Philadelphia team at the adidas National Lacrosse Classic for underclassmen.
Andrew Cacchio of Holy Ghost Prep and Kenneth Warren of Pennsbury have both been chosen to the Philadelphia All-Star team that will compete in the annual adidas National Lacrosse Classic for underclassmen. The event will be held at the Maryland Soccerplex in Germantown, Md., from Tuesday through Thursday.
The tournament, sponsored by adidas and Gatorade, draws teams from eight regions. Approximately 500 players will compete for the right to play a Canadian team for the Brogden Cup later this year.
Cacchio and Warren are both attack players and will both be seniors in the fall. "It should be a good experience," Cacchio said. "It's another opportunity to play with really good players and hopefully that will make me better.
"It's tough to play with guys you don't really know well, but when everyone's pretty good, it tends to jell pretty quickly. It would be great to win it and move on, but it's going to be very competitive, so we'll have to take it one game at a time and just see what happens."
Cacchio has made a verbal commitment to the University of Hartford, where he is considering education or business as a major. The Hawks were 2-11 overall, 1-4 in the America East Conference this past season.
"It's a load off my mind to have that decided," he said. "It just eases things up a little bit for me. Now I'm looking forward to my senior year at Holy Ghost. It should be a fun time and I really want to step up as an upperclassman."
Warren is looking forward to the opportunity to be seen by college coaches. "I haven't committed to a college yet, but I'm looking pretty hard and I've talked to some coaches," Warren said. "I let them know that I would be playing in this tournament and hopefully they'll see me. Also, you never know who else might be there and see me, so while I have narrowed it down I still have an open mind." He is considering Fairfield, St. John's and Lehigh with an eye toward becoming a physical therapist. His list also includes Delaware, where his sister, Carly, is the manager for the men's lacrosse team.
All recruiting aspects aside, Warren is excited to be playing in the tournament. "The colleges are there, but this isn't about all the guys showing off for them," he said. "I think this group wants to work really hard not to be selfish players and to play hard together to try to win it."
