Kids, parents, grandparents and spectators are going to have a new place to get snacks and drinks during baseball games at Sunset Knolls (Fields 25 & 26) this year.
The Lombard Baseball League and Lombard Park District are overseeing construction of a new concession stand and enclosed bathrooms at Sunset Knolls, 820 South Finley Road, Lombard. The stand replaces the league’s old one concession stand and adds permanent restrooms eliminate the need to have port-a-potties.
The old concession stand trailer was placed in the mid-90s and needed a lot of repair. The new concession stand is part of a larger building (total size: 20 ft. by 26 ft.) that also has a restroom facilities and meets all ADA requirements.
Groundbreaking for the new building started last fall. The building was delivered and constructed in late February. Work will continue on its interior to ensure the concession stand & bathrooms are operational for the start of the spring baseball season.
This cooperative project between the Lombard Park District and Lombard Baseball League was in part of the greater Sunset Knoll improvement plan that began three years ago. This included walking paths, parking lot paving, playground, a splash park, gazebo, and an irrigation system. Also, baseball diamonds were rejuvenated with a new field mix of clay and top-dressing to not only level the infield but assist with drainage preventing “pitting” in the batter’s box and pitcher mound.
Please come out to Sunset Knoll this spring and summer to see these improvements and enjoy a baseball game
