NWBL Adds To The Rule Book: ERA?
Many have been waiting for this announcement, some for years. The NWBL has voted and will distinguish runs and earned runs. In short, any run that SCORES (not get on base, so slightly different from baseball) off an OVERTHROW will be counted as a RUN. A misplayed ball, throwing error, and other such will be counted as a RUN.
If the rule changes the ERA situation vastly (really lowers it), then all ERAs from previous years will be in a different category. Hopefully, this change produces less change and more happy faces.
2010 Preview Part III: Standings and Awards LR: 23-7, 1st Place East. They have a stronger team from 2009, but increasing power in the division will lead to a lesser record, by only one game. The Rapids are predicted to take 1st in the East by about 5 or 6 games. Starting pitching is phenominal and batting is terrific. Defense has holes but the team should survive.
FH: 17-13, 2nd Place East. The team is the same. A few minor changes, but the Heat will remain a threat. A close race with the Cutters will lead the Heat to a win in a one game playoff for second. With a great ace and a good closer, pitching may be the hole. Batting and defense is great.
VC: 17-13, 3rd Place East. The defending champs wont take first, but a close race for second is in the cards. After going 12-18, the team will improve greatly. Pitching will be the deciding factor. The Cutters can hit, for contact and power. Their defense is good as well. If the team plays like they did in the playoffs, we may see them take first place.
DBC: 17-13, 1st Place West. With new additions, especially in pitching, the Bobcats will put up their first .500 or better season. Great pitching and better than average hitting can be their key to success. The Bobcats will win their second West Pennant and may be a threat to the dominating East.
WW: 7-23. 2nd Place West. Chemistry is the deciding factor for 2010. With Ian Hanley gone, and Jeff Roth and Mike Herrmann added, the team shouldnt be going downhill. With a new threat in the West and dominating East teams, wins will be hard. A suprise run for first is potential but may be out of the cards. By Game 10 we will know if it will be a rebuilding year.
DCS: 4-26, 3rd Place West. Hands down one of the worst teams in franchise history, especially with All Star Travis Skurat retired. We call for less than 6 wins. The Cannons have potentially no chance in the East, which makes up 12 games. Pitching is bad, closer is bad. Hitting is decent, but other teams will run right past them.
Cy Young: Shane Hanley MVP: Jack Mulroony Rookie Of The Year: Vinny Plateroti Gold Gloves: Nick Swangler, Jack Mulroony, Mike Palmesino Reliever Of The Year: Adam Skurat
2010 Season Schedule Released
The league will look to return to its "no date, play when you like" form that went very smoothly last year. Each team will play its divisional teams 9 times and 4 against each other division team...a total of 30 games. Each series will consist of 4 game series against each opposite divison team and three 3 game series against each divisional opponent.
