ORLANDO MARLINS RETURNING TO THE DIAMOND?.......
July 15, 2016
After a nearly 4 year hiatus, rumors are rampant regarding a possible Orlando Marlin reunion season.
There has been no official word from any team officials, nor has there been any confirmed contact to the league, but sources close to the owner, former management and players, say it IS going to happen.
Repeated calls made to owner and manager, Rich Musumeci have gone unanswered.
The only hint that has people excited is a quick smile and wink from former team All Star, Josh Montero when asked about the possibility of a team reunion.
"I caught him coming off the field one day after coaching his son's little league team."
said long time Marlin fan, Charles Fitzsimmons.
"I had to ask him if the rumors were true! I felt a tingle up the back of my leg when he just smiled at my question.
Not unlike Chris Matthews felt when he heard Obama speak."
OTHER POSSIBLE TIP OFFS;
-The team offices, which have sat vacant for the last four years, have seen a flurry of activity in recent weeks.
Anyone coming in and out of the building has been tight lipped about the goings-on, but from the looks of things, it seems like some light construction and painting companies have been coming and going.
- Former hockey great, turned baller, Mark Sims has been seen spending a lot of time with the owner over the last few months and in the weight room, obviously preparing for something.
Sims played for the Marlins for three seasons before the team disbanded.
No official word as of yet, but we'll be surprised if we don't see some black & teal on the field this fall!
More on this story as it develops.................................
MARLINS SENT PACKING IN 5-2 LOSS TO TRIBE........
July 8, 2012
The Indians sent the Marlins home in the semi-finals for the second straight season, behind the strong pitching of Chris Brock, solid defense and timely hitting.
Marlins starter Larry Hingle struggled early, surrendering a couple of doubles, a triple and a 2 run blast, for 5 runs in the first 2 frames, but settled in and cruised through the rest of the game.
Offensively, the Marlins hit the ball well, but right at people. Montero led the way with 3 hits, matching the team's total hits in game 1 against Brock.
MSBL Veteran Lorne Wheatcraft drove in the Marlin's first run in the 7th with a single to right, and C Jason Torres drove in the 2nd on a deep bases loaded sac fly in the 8th. But that would be it, as the hard throwing Brock shut the door to preserve the win.
It was a great year full of struggles and successes, and to make it as far as they did, says alot about this team.
The fish will make a few small adjustments and get back at it in the fall.
Look for updated postseason stats and career stats shortly.
Have a great summer!!
Will be in touch!
HINGLE PITCHES MARLINS PAST KNOX, FISH SPLIT WITH TRIBE.....
July 1, 2012
Friday, Marlins starter Larry Hingle manhandles Hard Knox lineup, with 3 hit, 14K night to advance the Marlins to round 2 of the playoffs.
Add another POG for Hingle, who'll share it with his battery-mate Jason Torres, who were responsible for 4 of the 5 runs scored.
Torres also was a warrior, for catching all 15 innings today in the sweltering heat, after 9 Friday night.
Torres hasn't exactly been healthy either, as he's been battling the flu and has been bothered by a sore hip.
Nice job J.T.!!
Sunday, Brock gets best of Fish in game 1, outlasting Marlin's Jaime Douglas 5-2.
Douglas pitched well enough to win, 3 ER on 9 hits, 1 BB and 14 K's, but just did not get the run support.
In game 2, the Marlins bounced back behind a STELLAR effort by Jeff Francher, who went the distance, surrendering just 1 run on 6 hits a BB and 2 K's.
Francher, who has been lights out in 3 postseason appearances since joining the Marlins, saw his ERA skyrocket to 0.57.
Francher, along with CF Corey Anderson who handled a third of the put-outs himself, earned POG for game 2.
IF Josh Montero gets honorable mention for playing all day with strep throat and overall flu-like symptoms, and for his 3 run bomb to put the Marlins in position for a mercy shortened game.
Info on game 3 forthcoming.....
Great job forcing game 3 boys!!
ROUND 1 POSTPONED DUE TO RAIN....
June 24, 2012
Marlins/Hard Knox round 1 playoff game postponed til Friday 6/29/12, 7pm @ Lake Mary H.S.
FISH TOP TRIBE FOR MUCH NEEDED WIN......
June 17, 2012
In a game that meant nothing for the Tribe, after locking up the #2 seed and a bye for the playoffs, but a lot for the Fish, manager-for-the-day Josh Montero led 8 man team to victory.
The Marlins hop back over the Pirates after they fell to the Lugnuts, and claim the 3rd seed with a 12-7 record.
The way it stands, the Fish will play the winner of the Diamondback/Hard Knox game set for this week, after those two teams battle it out for the 6th remaining spot.
Fan fave and P90X guru, Larry Hingle started on the mound and was solid. Jeff Francher also pitched well in his 4 innings of relief, and the game was closed out by Barrett Gugliotta, who saw just his second game this season after his injury.
Stats and wrap up when I get scorebook.
Great job Marlins!

Jaime Douglas (4-2, 1.15) on the bump, as Fish hope to salvage a game out of the season series..

MONTERO HOMERS, HANSON EARNS POG WITH CG GEM, AS FISH TOP YANKS, 9-2.....
March 18, 2012
The Fish headed to Clermont Sunday morning with 1 pitcher, a manager on the hot seat and a collective bruised ego sitting at 1-4, their worst start in franchise history.
Hanson, who has struggled out of the gate this season, pitched a complete game gem, surrendering just 1 ER and 2BB while striking out 7, giving his struggling offense time to muster up some runs. They responded with 9 runs on 13 hits and a few breaks due to Yankee errors.
"We'll take em how we can get em" said bench coach Dan Jarvis. "Lord knows we've given up our share of runs, its time we took some!!"
Leading the charge was Josh Montero, who hit his first homer of the season, a dead center shot, seen on this website.
Also contributing, were the Lakeland boys, Sean Williams and Lorne Wheatcraft combining for 6-9, 2B, 2 runs and an RBI, Mickey Bono, 2-3 2BB, RBI and Marc Valentino, who valiantly played after suffering from food poisoning all night, picking up a single and a double of his own, in between the dry heaves and the sweats.
Defensively, the Fish were solid after 2 early errors, turning a couple of double plays to get out of possible jams.
"Warren AND the team needed this win!" said Musumeci. "Hell, so did I!"
Musumeci seems safe, for now.
The Marlins are a notoriously slow starting team, and they DO have the roster to get it done, if they all start showing of course.
Next up will be a big test for our boys, as they head back to Lake Mary to take on the Hard Knox squad. Basically a re-badging of the Orlando Dodgers who are playing some decent ball.
The Fish expect to have their best turnout of the season next week, so it should be a great game!
Have a great week, we'll see you Sunday!
In the meantime, enjoy the video of Montero's homer, called by the ESPN crew, compliments of Mickey Bono, DJ, SS, cleanup hitter and now, videographer extraordinaire!
Josh's 5th homer
BY THE NUMBERS........
4- Total earned runs surrendered by Marlin pitching staff over the last 38 innings.
12- Average number of player turnout per game with this large roster.
5- Josh Montero's career home run total.
MARLINS CONTINUE TO DISAPPOINT, FALL TO D'BACKS, 7-6........
March 13, 2012
For the second year in a row, the Orlando Diamondbacks (4-1) have taken the field against the Marlins (1-4) with 8 players.
In both games, they have had just 2 outfielders, much like the Black Sox a couple of seasons ago, only this Diamondbacks team, while playing extremely well with some pretty decent players, can never be confused with the multi-champion Black Sox.
Regardless, in both games, it was a loss for the Fish.
It couldn’t be more frustrating, seeing a team with two outfielders cover the ground necessary to keep their team in the game. Frustrating, watching your team struggle offensively week after week, unable to hit pitchers they should be able to.
Not a knock on these pitchers, but they are not the Brocks, Weiss’s and Steven’s of the league.
With Torres, Miceli and Gugliotta on the shelf, the Marlins will struggle with the bats a bit.
A little boost came in the form of veteran Marc Valentino this week. Valentino, in his long anticipated Marlin debut, went 2-4 with 2 runs….err, make that ONE run scored, after being called out at home on a throw from RC.
“He blew the stop sign” said manager and 3B coach Rich Musumeci. “I hope he doesn’t drive like he runs!”
Despite the blunder, Valentino is a welcome sight, hitting the ball hard and putting himself in position to score some runs. He looks to be ready to roll after working with Marlin’s catcher and hitting instructor, Jason Torres.
Speaking of Torres; while he continues to nurse his ailing wrist, he may be available for defensive purposes Sunday vs. the Yankees.
“We need that bat in the lineup!” said bench and 1B coach Dan Jarvis.
The Marlins weakness this season has clearly not been pitching. In the last 29 innings, Marlin’s pitching has surrendered just 3 earned runs. Their record in that span? 1-3. That’s NOT getting it done.
Errors and hitting, or lack thereof, have been like an anchor on this ship of fools (sorry, I couldn’t resist).
With a roster like the Marlins have, to be 1-4 after the first 5 games is not acceptable. Hence the rumors circulating about the possible firing of long time manager, the ONLY manager, this organization has ever had.
“Hey, if he wants me out of here, all he has to do is say the %$#@ing word!” said an irate Musumeci, during a late Friday evening phone interview.
The scary thing is, he was referring to himself, as he is also the owner of the organization.
“It was a very uncomfortable interview” said ESPN’s Peter Gammons. “I thankful it was via the phone!”
The Fish hope to turn it around this Sunday, when they take on the Yankees in Clermont. Here’s a game where they will surely need some runs scored. Warren Hanson gets the start, but after that it’s a crap shoot, as he is the only pitcher who will be in attendance.
Should the Marlins fall to 1-5, it just may be Musumeci’s last game as head fish.
RAIN KEEPS MARLINS FROM ACTION 2nd STRAIGHT WEEK.......
March 11, 2012
Marlins hopefully back at it Tuesday night at Jones....
MARLINS BAD BOYS MAKING NEWS..........
March 10, 2012
The Marlins have had their share of bad boys over the years, but these two have taken it to the next level.
Pitcher and Marlin royalty Jimmy Groves, remains on the D.L. and may begin his long road of rehab with a Brevard county Marlin affiliate soon, and new Marlin Marc Valentino, who has yet to appear in a game for the Fish since signing on with the team last July, looks like he will be ready this Sunday.
And it couldn’t be at a better time for the Marlins, as runs continue to be at a premium. The hope is, Valentino can contribute right away despite not picking up a bat since last spring while a member of the Braves.
“Valentino ran into a bit of hard luck this summer, and he was unable to take the field” said a Marlin spokesperson.
But that is putting it lightly. Valentino was arrested last September for grand theft auto, assault and battery, illegal possession of a firearm and theft of services from a local prostitute.
“I was getting so good at the game Grand Theft Auto, I wanted to see if my skills could transcend to real life” said Valentino. “It did……. Until I got busted”.
Valentino was released and cleared of most charges, leaving detractors scratching their heads. (Valentino has been rumored to be affiliated with the Romano crime family of Daytona, but that accusation has yet to be proven).
Valentino has been working with Marlin catcher and hitting instructor, Jason Torres.
“He looks good!” said Torres. “His swing looks crisp and he’s hitting the ball with authority. I sent him home with MLB 2K11 for PS3. If he can master Grand Theft auto, he can get something out of this one!”
Groves, who injured his shoulder in 2010 when he violated his contract by taking the mound for a non-affiliated team, seems to be having trouble staying OUT of trouble.
His off the field problems continue, as he was arrested once again, this time for stealing a rose bush from Brevard County courthouse property.
Groves’ run in with the law began last year, when he stole a neighbor’s cat. “I thought it was a stray!” claimed the troubled 34 year old Virginia native.
Both are believed to be alcohol related incidents.
The Marlins will be looking for payback when they play the Pirates Sunday, after losing 4-2 to them in last Friday night’s game.
Marlin’s starter has NOT been named yet.
Put your clock ahead tonight!!!!
RAIN GIVES MARLINS MUCH NEEDED BREAK AND TIME TO RE-GROUP AFTER DISAPPOINTING 1-3 START......

Let's go! Time to turn this around!!!
MARLINS LARGE ROSTER NETS ONLY 9 IN LOSS TO BUCS......
March 3, 2012
Marlins fall to 1-3 in loss to Pirates. Fish could only muster up 9 and a borrowed catcher.
A huge thank you to Nat's skip John Needham for loan of his catcher Tommy Campbell. Campbell gets the POG for his gritty work behind the dish. It's not an easy job to handle arms like Douglas and Hingle. Thanks again!!
Wrap up and stats tonight.
Tomorrow's game has been changed to Bear Creek @ 9am!!!
MARLIN'S BATS WAKE UP IN 11-0 DRUBBING OF DEFENDING SPRING CHAMPS.....

MARLINS DROP ANOTHER OPENER.........
February 16, 2012
Another game vs. the Lugnuts, another loss.
The Nutters have routinely had the Marlins number, even when the Fish are playing their best. But on Sunday night, the Marlins certainly were not at their best.
The Marlins managed only one practice during the off-season, and it showed. Sloppy play and no communication was the story on this cold night.
“The way the Nutters were playing, we may have lost anyway, but 14-4!?? I don’t think it would have been that bad.” said manager Rich Musumeci.
Positives in the game? Not many. But Francher looked solid on the hill after taking the fall off, as did lefty Jaime Douglas.
The Fish went into the game with an attitude of using it as a scrimmage game. Maybe that’s the reason for the lackluster effort. But rest assured, the remainder of the season there will be a better effort.
The rest of the season begins this Sunday night at S. Orange vs. the NABF Rays.
READY OR NOT, HERE WE GO!!................
February 10, 2012
For the 2nd straight season, the Marlins will open up against the previous season's champs.
This year its a doozy; the fall 2011 champion Lugnuts.
After topping the Brewers in the fall finale, all the Nutters did this offseason was go out and sign another top flight pitcher to compliment their 2 incumbent golden arms, making them a 3 headed monster poised for a spring run.
Not to be outdone, the Fish (borderline overkill at this point), inked former UCF stand out pitcher, David Rankin.
Rankin will give the team even more depth at the position and officially make this season's staff the strongest it's ever employed.
"You can never have enough pitching" said GM and IF Josh Montero, who was instrumental in the deal, with the aid of C Brent Spooner. "Amazingly, if you had this "rotation" just a couple of seasons ago, you'd be a lock for the championship. But now, as tough as this league has become, we're just one of the stronger teams."
The league has seen an influx of talent pour in over the years, but this one might take the cake. The 2012 spring season is clearly going to be a hitter's nightmare.
"I think if you finish this season with a mid to high .300 average, your a lock for an all star bid" said Marlin's SS Mickey Bono.
Spooner, who was re-signed just over a week ago, will be reunited with his UCF battery-mate.
"I'm looking forward to getting back on the field and working with Dave" said Spoons.
Spoons was added to the roster after his year long hiatus from the game and the Marlin's need for the depth at the catching position.
With Jason Torres unavailable for weeknight games and starting the season a little dinged up, the Fish had only Lorne Wheatcraft to turn to.
"If J.T. can't go and Lorne isn't here, we're toast" said Montero.
"No one else can handle the arms we have now!"
How about those arms, anyway? Rankin, Jaime Douglas, Larry Hingle, Kevin Lidle, Warren Hanson, Jeff Francher....Oh, and some dude named Dan Miceli..... Yikes.
While it's going to be tough for the Marlins offense this season, the opposing teams won't be getting off too easy either.
BRING ON 2012!!!! GO FISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
See you all Sunday @ 5:15pm!!!!
PLEASE get on that paid list by Saturday night!!!!
MARLINS MAKE BIG SPLASH WITH LATE OFF-SEASON ACQUISITION, DAN MICELI.HINGLE, SPOONER RETURN..
