OXFORD HOOPS TORNADOES MAKES IT 4th STRAIGHT
Saturday 21st April, St Gregory the Great School
5 TEAMS TOOK PART IN THE PLAY-OFFS AND ROAD TO THE FINALS Didcot Devils, Faringdon Falcons and Oxford HOOPS Pumas were competing to see who was going to play against Witney Magic and Oxford HOOPS Tornadoes.
Witney Faced Oxford Pumas, who gave it their all, but were just not strong enough to make it to the finals. Witney looked sharp and ready to take it all.
HOOPS Tornadoes faced Faringdon Falcons, who crumbled under the constant pressure of last year's champs and we had what we all wanted to see ... Witney Magic v Oxford HOOPS TORNADOES finals.
It was a great game, with HOOPS taking an early lead, but Witney always stayed within reach, this was the same during the whole contest, with 1 minute left on the clock Tornadoes were up by 10 points, but after 2 turnovers and a missed shot, Witney reduced the lead to 6 points and HOOPS TORNADOES became CHAMPIONS for the 4th Consecutive Year!
Thanks to Zack Meekings for organising the League and ensuring that games took place as well as refereeing. Thanks to Peter Egawhary (HOOPS Chairman) for helping ref the games and doing the finals scoring. Thanks to all the parents for supporting the sport and their children. Thanks to the Coaches for their time and effort, without them there would be no teams. Thanks to the players for making the sport what it is, the best in the world!
MEDALS WILL BE PRESENTED NEXT SATURDAY 28th APRIL AT 1 PM OXFORD BROOKES UNIVERSITY CENTRE FOR SPORTS DURING THE OXFORD LEAGUE FINALS WHERE OXFORD HOOPS HAS PHOENIX REPRESENTING THE WOMEN AND SONICS REPRESENTING THE MEN.
HOOPS SONICS CHAMPIONS 2011-12
OXFORD HOOPS SECURE SECOND CHAMPIONSHIP BY DEFEATING STEALERS IN A PHYSICAL GAME AT CHENEY SCHOOL.
Oxford Stealers were without EBL point guard Jermaine Jarvis and centre Goran, OXFORD HOOPS SONICS were without Centre Tom BECKETT, Point Guard Tomasso and shooting guard Gabriel, Power Forward/Coach Patrice Mulowaye was with 40 degree fever and SG David Emsden stepped on court for the first time in 2 weeks after a twisted ankle injury.
Regardless both teams played as hard as they could for a very entertaining and highly contested game. Although by the half, SONICS were up 52-25, Stealers did not give up and pushed the issue in the last quarter. Finally SONICS took the game 86-62.
AFTER THE ONLY LOSS IN 3 SEASON LAST TUESDAY vs BROOKES PHOENIX PICKED THEMSELVES UP AND FACED WITNEY ... A WIN WOULD MEAN TAKING THE TITLE FOR THE 3RD TIME ... "THREE-PEAT"
Coach David EMSDEN took the team out on Sunday to face Witney without Mica PAGET who has been out for 2 weeks due to a severe ankle injury and Karen MCDERMOTT who had just run half a marathon! Crazy, but true.
Phoenix won the game, I'm yet to have final scores, but it was a 30 point win, which seals the Championship for Phoenix.

HOOPS in SCHOOLS PROGRAMME CONTINUES ITS SUCCESS
Oxford HOOPS push Academy basketball students to next level
Taken from ... http://www.theoxfordacademy.org.uk/News/Oxford-HOOPS-push-Academy-basketball-students-to-n/
Around eight keen Year 9 and 10 Academy basketball students were treated to a professional coaching session by Oxford Hoops, Oxfordshire’s largest and most respected basketball clubs, on 14 March.
Around 8 of the Academy’s basketball team gathered in the Academy’s sports hall after school to take part in 90 minutes of specialised training from Richard "Big Moe" Moses. Moses is an American professional basketball player with 20 years experience playing and coaching in the UK at every level.
Accompanying Moses was Oxford’s up and coming star player, Joseph Ifill.
Big Moe explained that ‘the session would start with an assessment of current skill level followed by team orientation drills and enhancement techniques’. After some shot practice at the start, the warm up commenced with gentle jogging and dribbling drills before leading into more team building exercises.
Students were mesmerised during the team talk where Moses explained Oxford Hoops’ mission; to get the players to the next level. The coaches promised that with hard work during the next 3 sessions, the students would notice a significant difference in their game.
If you want your school to take part of this, just get in touch.
