    2009 Summer Tournament Results
11U Wins the 1st Annual Deale Summer Heat Tournament  Defeating RBI 10-6 in Finals!
Members of Coach Sears’ 11U Astro's team combined forces with several 12U players from Coach Holson's team to participate in the 1st Annual 12U Summer Heat tourney in Deale, Md. En route to winning the Championship, the Astros defeated a stacked 12U Deale Shorebird team in the semifinals and then in a true David (PAL) vs Goliath (RBI) Championship game, PAL beat an RBI Angels team made up of 12U all-star players from RBI, Mayo, and Broadneck that just got back from Cooperstown with a record of 4-4. Everyone in the house already figured RBI would be hoisting the big trophies UNTIL the Astros put up 8 runs in the first 2 innings. Going into the championship game the RBI team had won their previous games by a combined score of 45-3.  PAL 11U finished up a stellar 2009 season with a 10-6 victory and brought home yet another championship trophy to PAL !!

10U Wins the 55th Annual LFYAA Tournament Championship With a Dramatic 6th Inning Come From Behind Victory!

The PAL Astro’s gave 110% Monday July 13th in the 55th Annual LFYAA 10U championship game vs. Brooklyn Park. It was another classic game that went down to the wire and saw spectacular efforts from both teams..  Here is the game recap.

The Astro's went ahead 2-0 early on only to fall behind 3-2. Alex Hill pitched 3 solid innings before giving way to Dominic Belnomi in the 4th. Kyle Remaley was superb behind the plate throwing out three would-be base stealers tonight. PAL eventually went ahead 6-3 with James Cardillo -who was stellar defensively at 2nd base the entire tournament- Connor Wilson and Ben Stoy keying this rally only to see that lead also disappear. The Astro’s fell behind 9-6 going into the last of the 5th.  Belnomi pitched well but a couple of defensive miscues aided the Brooklyn Park rally. PAL pushed across a run in the 5th on an RBI by Will Spanoghe to cut it to 9-7 going into the 6th. Tom Flanagan who had an MVP caliber tournament and the Astro’s defense mowed the Brooklyn Park team down in the top of the 6th keeping the game within reach.

Dillon Brown led off the last of the 6th by drawing an all-important walk. The next two batters got out. Brown had made it to 2nd base however PAL’s championship hopes appeared to be fading.  But Kyle Remaley and Alex Hill both hit solid singles to keep the inning alive. Brown scored to cut it to 9-8. Dominic Belnomi walked to load the bases with two outs with Tomas Montenegro coming up. Montenegro fell behind 0-2. The Brooklyn Park fans were going crazy anticipating strike three. It never came. Montenegro worked the count to 3-2 with 2 outs, the bases loaded and PAL down by a run. With nerves of steel, he took ball 4 to force in the tying run. At this point the momentum clearly shifted to the PAL crowd. Timmy Martin came to plate. With the savvy poise of a 10 year major league veteran he hit a shot up the middle, Belnomi broke for 3rd in front of the shortstop trying to field the ball, Montenegro slid hard but clean into 2nd safely as Hill dashed for home.... and scored the championship winning run. PAL wins the LFYAA 10U championship 10-9!!!!!!

What a game!!! Here are the champs and their trophies!

PAL Astro's 10U LFYAA Tournament Champions

Myrtle Beach 11U Beach Blast Tournament- The  highlight of the summer tournament season: After a year of hard work, fundraising, practices, games etc... The Astro's 11U Team went to Myrtle Beach for the Beach Blast Tournament June 28-July 3 at the Ripken Experience Complex.

The Annapolis PAL Astros 11U team recently participated in the Ripken Baseball Beach Blast in Myrtle Beach over the July 4th Holiday. The team went 2-2-1 and made it to the Championship Bracket playoff. The Astros highlight game was an 8-3 victory on Ripken’s Shibe Field (pic included) over the Louisville Middletown Bats, a top rated team from Kentucky. The Astros were lead by a grand slam over the left field fence by Brady Oneil and a masterful complete game pitching performance by Andy Rozylowicz, along with his battery mate behind the plate catching—Kyle Cunningham. Infielders Emory Sears, Graeme Joyce, Aiden Fowler, and Nick Sabatini played flawless infield defense behind Rozylowicz. Tre Damico, Jack Elstner, Pat Swalwell, & Brendan Aumiller each supplied RBI base hits to clinch late game run insurance. After the game, the team got to meet Cal Ripken and take pictures with family and friends.

8U  June 27-28. Came back after the Lusby tournament and had a strong showing against the teams from north county.  They were 2-1 and scored 54 runs in 3 games. Were the only team in the entire tournament deemed good enough to move up a bracket from the B bracket to the A bracket. They promptly won their A division game by 17 runs but then lost to a very tough Brooklyn Park team which won the entire 14 team tournament.

12U's June 27-28 . They were 2-2 in the LFYAA Tournament . Coach Holson and Coach Arnold got maximum effort from their squad that was together only a week to play in this tournament. Hat's off to this team for a job well done!!

8U Mid- Atlantic State Championship- June 20-21 Cove Field- Lusby, MD- 1st tournament jitters cost the Astro's a chance at a victory in their first game but they competed well and almost pulled off a huge upset losing 5-3 to the host organization SYB in their 2nd game.
