GAME OF THE WEEK: Upper Moreland travels to Hagys Mill to play Plymouth
Pendel vs. Perky All Star Game
WELCOME TO THE HOME OF THE
PENDEL BASEBALL LEAGUE

3 games on the table Tonight

Upper Morelamd (6-0-1) vs. Glenside (0-10)

Averthorpe Park: First pitch at 6:15

Upper Moreland has continued to dominate their opponents. Upper Moreland has scored 46 runs and has allowed only 8. Glenside on the other hand has allowed 86 runs while only scoring 9 runs. This game spells disaster for Glenside.

 Northampton (2-6) vs. Horsham (5-2-1)

Civic Center Complex (Field 290) first pitch at 6:15

Northamptons bats have been silenced this year facing some of the top talent in the league. Coach Opalka's squad scored 5 runs on Sunday, will their offense continue to put runs on the board? Horsham currently is 2nd in the Pendel league standings and has jumped out as a potential challenger to Upper Moreland.

Plymouth (5-3) vs LOMA (6-3)

Hagys Mill Complex, first pitch at 6:15

Plymouth comes off a tough loss against Upper Moreland where their defense let them down with 7 errors. LOMA and their Coach Mike Whitaker have quietly put together a solid start going 6-3. Will Plymouth have a hangover from the Upper Moreland game? Or is LOMA flying under the radar as one of the best teams in the league?

POWER RANKINGS for the Week of 6/17

This is the Pendel League's First Installment of the weekly POWER RANKINGS

The Pendel League has seen a resurgance in terms of talent and potential. We have a strong core of teams that have talented players and even more passionate managers.

1. -                Upper Moreland 5-0-1 (Manager-Pete Moore)

Upper Moreland is the defending Pendel League Champion. They have started out 5-0-1. They have relied on the best pitching staff in the league and a balanced offensive attack. They are the heavy favorite to repeat as the Pendel League Champions.

Offensive MVP: Nick Fasano (.412,7 RBI's)   Pitching MVP: Corey Crispell (2-0, .69 ERA)

2.                 Plymouth Pirates 5-2 (Manager-Brian Torphy)

Plymouth has seen a resurgance this year, after winning 10 games last season. Plymouth has picked up new pieces that have meshed well as a team. They have started hot out of the gate using a powerful offensive attack and timely pitching.

Offensive MVP: Darnell Muse (.444 BA)         Pitching MVP: Bryan Wilde (2-0, 1.80 ERA,21 K's in 10 innings)

3.                  Horsham Astros5-2-1 (Manager-Kevin Weaver)

Horsham might have very well deserved the number 2 spot on our Power Rankings. They tied Upper Moreland 3-3 in an extra inning affair. Horsham has been as steady as any other team in the league.  They have won the close games that have been very important this early in the season. They are 3-2-1 in games decided by less then 2 runs.

Offensive MVP: Jesse Goldstein (.500 BA)    Pitching MVP: Matt Schoettle (1-0, 0.00 ERA in 9.1 innings)

4.                        LOMA    6-3 (Manager- Mike Whitaker)

LOMA has been sound at the plate riding their offensive stars (Mark Woltemate and Dustin Kology) LOMA's pitching staff is off to a slow start this season, it makes you wonder...at 6-3 with a slow start from their pitching staff, just how much better would this team be with a hot pitching staff?

Offensive MVP: Dustin Kology (.448 BA)        Pitching MVP: Nick Klein (1-0,2.30 ERA)

5.         Warminster 4-4 (Manager- Dave Boice)

Warminster has had a slow start this season, struggling to a 4-4 record. Stats do not show how this team has really played. They have hit and pitched well, they just havent been able to play complete games.

Offensive MVP: Brandon Roman (.500 BA)     Pitching MVP: James Brown (2-1,2.13 ERA)

6.                 Northampton 2-6 (Manager-Joe Opalka)

Northampton started off slow last year, and again they are off to a slow start. In Northamptons defense they have faced the top pitchers in the league. Northamptons offense has been enept and their defense is still shaking off the rust from the off-season.  Northampton is a self proclaimed 2nd half team, If their bats dont wake up just how bad will it get for Northampton?

Offensive MVP: Ryan Downs (.333 BA, 3 RBI's)   Pitching MVP: Kyle Levocz (0-2, 2.35 ERA)

7.                Glenside  0-10 (Manager- Joe Schreok)

Their are not many words to describe the start that Glenside has had. After speaking to a couple players they have no given up hope this year. In a playoff format where the top 6 teams make the playoffs, Glenside only sits 2 games behind Northampton.

Offensive MVP: Matt Hanson (.500 BA in 9 AB's)    Pitching MVP: Mark Bellomo (0-2, 3.12 ERA)

The scene was #1 vs #2, Upper Moreland vs Plymouth, at Hagys Mill Complex, but it seemed more like 2012, #1 Upper Moreland vs #7 Northeast at Northeast High.

Upper Moreland capitalized inning after inning on error after error by Plymouth, extending innings and scoring run after run.

Nick Fasano was hot, going 3-4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI, Conner Crookham was 2-4 with a double 2 runs scored and an RBI.

Pitcher Pete Moore was on his game, he allowed 9 hits, but all singles and was able to time and time again to work out of situations with men in scoring position, and end innings without giving up runs. Pete ended the night going the distance, striking out 8. He dominated the mound.

I was able to speak to Chris Hens after the game, Chris is going to be a Sophmore at Gwynedd Mercy this year where he plays OF. Chris was First Team All-State at Hatboro Horsham his senior year for Coach Pete Moore. We asked Chris about his transition into the Pendel League " I love this league, its a highly competitive league and I am fortunate to play for one of the better teams. Its a league where I can just focus on baseball." Anytime a younger player comes to a top team with such veteran leadership, they might not fit in at first, thats not the story with Chris. "Chris walked into this team day 1 and fit in. Hes a good kid who loves baseball. Its good to have a mix of veteran leadership and youthful energy, it really makes for a great team" said coach Pete Moore. Chris is one of the bright young stars of the Pendel League. When asked about the Pendel League Chris said " I plan on playing in the Pendel League for a while, I like the fact that I can just play baseball in this league"

GAME OF THE WEEK: Upper Moreland travels to Hagys Mill to play Plymouth
June 17, 2013 – 06:15 PM
Upper Moreland (5-0-1) @ Plymouth (5-2)
Hagys Mill Complex. First pitch 6:15

Projected Starters:
Plymouth Pirates: John Bernhardt (1-0,1.69)
Upper Moreland: Pete Moore (0-0,1.29)

This is the first of our GAME OF THE WEEK segments which highlight primetime events for the Pendel League.  Upper Moreland (5-0-1) currently holds the 1 spot in the Pendel standings while Plymouth (5-2) currently trails Upper Moreland by 1 game.

Upper Moreland started this season as a heavy favorite to win the Pendel League for a 6th consecutive time. Upper Morelands 5-0-1 start is not a suprise to Head Coach Pete Moore. We have a number of players taking on different roles to fill voids left by some players who have either retired or are more limited in their time.  We have added a couple of veterans to the roster in Mark Roth and Matt Altieri.  Rookies Chris Hens (Gwynedd Mercy), Conner Crookham (Old Dominion), Ben Moller (Marist), and Kyle Scannell have added quality depth, youth, and energy to our core group of players.  As has been the case in the past, we have been led by our pitching.  Doug Brown is 1-0 with a save and has 29 strikeouts in 15 innings pitched.  Corey Crispell is 2-0 with a save and has 16 strikeouts in 15 innings pitched.  Our pitching staff has a 1.12 ERA and a 0.80 WHIP.  We pride ourselves in not giving up runs.

Offensively, Nobel Unger (.429, 6 R, 1 2B, 2 RBI), Nick Fasano (.412, 3 2B, 1 HR, 5 RBI) and Ben Moller (.375, 1 2B, 4 RBI) have shined.

Upper Moreland is expected to send Head Coach Pete Moore to the mound to face Todd Roth.

Plymouth Pirates (5-2): New Name....Same Goal

The Plymouth Pirates moved from the Northeast this offseason to Plymouth and will call the Hagys Mill Complex home this season. Plymouth struggled last year picking up 10 wins in what was a season to forget for Coach Brian Torphy. Not only did Plymouth change their name but they added a couple new faces to the team this year. One of the biggest offseason pickups for Plymouth was Bryan Wilde. Bryan came to the Pendel League from the Independent League where he played for Sioux Falls. Bryan played for Cheltenham High School then played in college for Mansfield. Bryan has been a force for Plymouth hitting .437 and is 2nd on the team with 7 RBIs. He has shown dominance on the mound holding a 1.80 ERA while striking out 21 in just 10 innings.

The transition has been a breath of fresh air for Bryan. " Coach Torphy has created an enviornemnt at Plymouth where the team is full of passionate players who have a true love for the game. We have a group of guys who love playing baseball and love winning even more" Bryan has turned heads at Plymouth and has the excitement of his head coach "Bryan brings a true passion and love for the game" said coach Brian Torphy. " He has tremendous baseball IQ and leadership qualities. The guys like playing with him and feed off the energy he brings to the game"

Plymouth has started off 5-2 and has emerged as the early favorite to challenge Upper Moreland for the Pendel League championship. With their hot start Plymouth knows they must continue playing well and improve if they want to sustain their play. " We must continue to play the game the right away. We must continue improving on defense and keep hitting as well as we have" said Brian Torphy.

Plymouth will host 5 time defending league champion Upper Moreland on Monday June 17th at Hagys Mill, first pitch is scheduled for 6:15. Coach Torphy will send Todd Roth (University of Penn, All IVY leaguer) to the mound.
