    Indoor Baseball Session II Updates

The starting time for the Indoor Baseball Season has been pushed back to February 8-10 to allow for further organizing of teams. Listed above is the indoor baseball schedule for 2010 along with the roster of players in the four team league. Please locate which team you have been assigned to and follow the schedule for that team. The first player listed under the team name is the manager for that team.

Each team is responsible for paying All-American Baseball the $824 to rent the field for 8 weeks. Each player should come prepared for the first game to pay All-American Baseball $103 at the register. Each team is responsible for paying 1/2 of the $25 umpire fee each week which works out to $12.50 per man. That works out to $100 in umpire fees per team for the season ($12.50 per week times 8 Weeks = $100).

If you would like more information about indoor baseball or if you have any questions regarding indoor baseball please email Chris Dulavitch at steelcityprowlers@yahoo.com

Back On Top: Pittsburgh  Sweeps Clancy's To Become 2009 PBL Champions.

In Game number one Pittsburgh defeated Clancy's Pub 3-0.  Rob Fester threw a complete game five hit shutout striking out five Clancy batters. Pittsburgh scored two first inning runs with an RBI awarded to Rob Fester and a sacrafice flyball by Mike Wagner to score the second run. Pittsburgh  added another run in 2nd on a Scott Stipe RBI groundout.

Gary Sabol had 2 of the 5 hits, plating a single and double for Clancy's. While Jim Onder pitched a complete game six hitter striking four batters in the game.

In game two Pittsburgh captured the PBL championship with a decisive 10 to 3 victory.  Shawn King was the winning pitcher beating his former team with a complete game effort. After a shaky first inning giving up all 3 runs, King settled down allowing only five total hits while striking out nine batters.

Being down three runs early, Pittsburgh chipped away at Clancy's starter Mike Gerber.  Pittsburgh scored one run  in second inning on back-to-back doubles by Wagner and Brad Yeschenko.  They later tied the game in third inning on a John Tavares ground out after Sam Sibeto doubled. Pittsburgh took lead in fourth inning with Matt Serakowski and Keith Kuzma RBI singles. Later, Tavares led off the fifth with a towering homerun to leftfield.  Pittsburgh added two runs in the sixth and another two in the seventh on RBI's by Ed Rayburg, Kuzma, Blair Love and Ahlborn.

Kuzma ended game two with 3 hits, Tavares, Wagner, Yeschenko and Ahlborn each accumulated two hits for the game. Dan Gasparovik doubled and Gary Sabol had 2 RBI's in game two for Clancy's.

Congrats to both teams on a terrific season.

Allegheny Valley Rebels Finish Second In AA Veterans Division At Roy Hobbs World Series

Congratulations to the Allegheny Rebels for finishing in second place in the 2009 Roy Hobbs World Series.  Allegheny Valley accumulated a 4-1 record during pool play with victories over the Midatlantic Redwings (7-4), North Coast Padres (4-3), Kodak Reds (7-4), and Covington Orioles (11-1).  The Rebels suffered their only loss of pole play at the hands of the Jupiter Hammerheads (7-4).  The Rebels 4-1 record provided them with a first round bye before defeating both the Tidewater Drillers (6-2) and the Margate Hurricanes (20-3).  The Rebels suffered only their second loss of the tournament in the championship game against the undefeated North Yuma Yankees 6-5.  That is a tremendous accomplishment for the three time PBL 38+ champions.

Pittsburgh 40's Claim Roy Hobbs Championship In The AAAA Division

The Pittsburgh 40's claimed another championship at the Roy Hobbs World Series in 2009 with a 1-0 victory over the Stars of Herrera.  Pittsburgh only suffered one loss in both pool play (4-0) and in the playoffs on their way to the championship.

In pool play Pittsburgh defeated the Chicago Giants 10-0, the Border City Brewers 8-5, the Stars of Herrera 2-1, and the NJ Twins 9-5.  In the playoffs Pittsburgh knocked off Americans BBC 13-3 and the HPK Oilers 6-5 before getting upset by the Stars of Herrera in the third round 7-2.  However, Pittsburgh quickly eliminated the New Jersey Twins with a 20-2 blowout in the losers bracket before reclaiming the title with the 1-0 victory over the Stars of Herrera.

Pittsburgh Back To Championship After 5-2 Win Over Clancy's

Team Pittsburgh and Clancy's Pub faced off in one nine inning game at Baker Field in Upper St. Clair on Sunday with a trip to the PBL Championship on the line. Pittsburgh's Rob Fester pitched a complete nine inning game yielding only 7 hits with 9 strikeouts on the day. Fester also contributed offensively with a big 2-run homer in the first inning of play. Shawn King and Sam Sibeto also homered for team Pittsburgh on the day. Sibeto collected three hits from Clancy's starter Mike Gerber who also threw a complete game in which he notched 6 strikeouts. Troy Smith had 3 hits for Clancys with a double and an RBI.

Prowlers & Wildcats Meet In Round Four

The PBL Champion Hempfield Wildcats looked every bit the part in a 6-3 victory over the Steel City Prowlers on Sunday. The Cats went to work early on Prowlers starter Dan Fuchs with three runs in the first inning after Fuchs retired the first two batters in the game. The Prowlers responded later in the game with their first run after a Greg Holtz triple to make the score 5-1. The Prowlers later tacked on the final two runs against Wildcats relief pitcher Brandon Hassinger to make the final score more respectable at 6-3.

Joe Novak was fantastic on the mound and when the Prowlers did manage to hit the ball hard Wildcats defense was spectacular. Marcus Clarkson robbed Greg Holtz of a sure triple and Wildcats middle infielders turned multiple double plays throughout the contest.

The Wildcats victory sets up a rematch with Clancy's Pub at Hempfield High School on Sunday, September 20, 2009. Starting time will be at 10:00 a.m. Clancy's knocked off the Wildcats earlier in the playoffs sending the champs to the losers bracket. However, the Cats swept Clancy's earlier in the season. This should be a very interesting match up.

Prowlers & Wildcats Survive Round 3

The Steel City Prowlers came from behind in the sixth inning to tie the game against the Bridgeville Braves on Sunday. John Strack singled to tie the game up. The Prowlers then won the game when Prowlers centerfielder Jason Malatak scored the decisive run when designated hitter Chris Dulavitch got caught up in a run down between first and second base with two outs.

Pitcher Dan Fuchs notched the win for Steel City yielding only one run through seven complete innings. Losing pitcher Sean Slugo was spectacular and certainly pitched well enough to win the game on most days.

The Hempfield Wildcats ended South Hills season with an 8-1 victory. Chad Rafferty hit a monster home run in the first inning for the Wildcats. While Tim Buzzard tossed a complete game yielding only 4 hits to a tough South Hills lineup.

INDOOR BASEBALL PLANS TO PLAY AT ROBERT MORRIS ISLAND SPORTS COMPLEX CANCELLED

After speaking with management at Robert Morris Island Sports Complex it was determined that it would be cost prohibitive to hold the indoor baseball league there.  The approximate cost per player for the 8 week league would have been near two hundred dollars per man.  That was far more than the price originally discussed with Robert Morris.

As a result, the indoor baseball session will be held in January at the All-American Baseball Center as it has in previous years.  To simplify matter please sign up for the mass email list by clicking on the link below.  When the time comes I will send out a mass email to everybody who signs up regarding indoor baseball in January.  Thanks for you interst.

Pittsburgh & Clancy's Survive First Two Rounds Undefeated

Team Pittsburgh and Clancy's Pub ended Sunday as the only two teams to remain unscatched in the playoffs in 2009.  Pittsburgh started the day off with an 11-0 victory over the River City Sharks at Baker Park.  Later in the day Pittsburgh defeated the Bridgeville Braves 13-4 in round two of the winners bracket.

Clancy's Pub defeated the Pittsburgh Beavers 5-0 at Wylie Field to set up a second round match up with the 2008 PBL Champion Hempfield Wildcats.  The game was a closely contested contest with Clancy's coming out on top 4-3.

Clancy's victory over the Wildcats earns them a shot at Pittsburgh next round with the game being played at Baker Field in Upper St. Clair.  Earlier in the season Clancy's swept team Pittsburgh due to strong pitching performances by both Mike Gerber and Jim Onder.  The winner will advance to the PBL Championship.  The loser will need to win one game in the losers bracket to force a rematch.

    Down But Not Out!

South Hills and the Steel City Prowlers both suffered crushing first round defeats at the hands of an able opponent.  South Hills took one on the chin from the Hempfield Wildcats in the form of a 15-1 drubbing at Hempfield Park.  Fortunately, South Hills was able to rebound and upset a talented Pittsburgh Beavers squad 15-11 in round two.

The Prowlers got pounded by the Bridgeville Braves in round one 20-10 then squeaked by the River City Sharks in round two 7-4 to avoid elimination.

The day started off better for both the Bridgeville Braves and Hempfield Wildcats with convincing first round victories.  However, the championship hopes took a slight nicking when each were upset in the second round by Pittsburgh and Clancy's Pub.

As a result, the Braves #5 & the Prowlers #4 will rematch at Fairview Park in round three with the loser being eliminated from the PBL Playoffs.  South Hills #7 and the Wildcats #2 will also rematch at Hempfield Park with the loser being eliminated from the PBL Playoffs.

    Playoff Matchups For Rounds 3 & 4

The Pittsburgh Baseball League Playoffs will resume on Sunday, September 13, 2009 with round three.  Here are the match ups for round three of the PBL Playoffs.

Winners Bracket #3 Clancy's Pub vs. #1 Pittsburgh (Baker Field)

The winner of Clancy's/Pittsburgh will advance to the PBL Championship Game.  The loser will get a bye in round four and then play the round four winner of the losers bracket in round five of the PBL Playoffs.

    Losers Bracket

#5 Braves at #4 Prowlers (Fairview Park)

#7 South Hills vs. #2 Wildcats (Hempfield Park)

The winners of the Braves/Prowlers game will take on the winners of the South Hills/Wildcats game in round four.  The losers of round three & four will be eliminated from the PBL Playoffs.  The winner of round four will advance to play the loser of the Clancy's Pub/Pittsburgh game in round five the on Sunday, September 20, 2009.
