HISTORY OF “NIKKI”
Nicole “Nikki” Denise Lafitte was a young woman who impacted the lives of so many in our North Country Region and endless miles beyond. Nikki lived by the mantra “winners are ordinary people with extraordinary determination” during her short 25 years, much of which was spent as a local resident in Littleton, NH. She was anything but ordinary.
As a Littleton High School and Colby-Sawyer College graduate, Nicole Lafitte displayed a love for life in everything of which she was a part. She enthusiastically volunteered with pre-schoolers, served on numerous committees, constantly demonstrated her deep devotion to her family and friends, and set precedence for what dedication truly means. Nikki succumbed to malignant melanoma (skin cancer) in October 2002.
Saturday, September 13, 2008 will mark the 6th Annual ‘run 4 life’ in support of Nikki’s scholarship and cancer research. Funds raised will support scholarships in Nikki’s name, to be given to local students exhibiting her willing qualities. The major part of the funds will be donated to “The Nicole Lafitte Melanoma Research Fund” that exists at Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital under the direction of Dr. Ernstoff, Head of melanoma research at the hospital.
