    USL News Release

    Friday, November 30, 2007

TAMPA, FL – The third annual USL SoccerFest featuring the United Soccer Leagues Annual General Meeting in downtown Tampa and the USL Super Y-League North American Finals concluded November 20 with 10 Championship matches at the Ed Radice Sports Complex in north Tampa. The title games concluded a six-day summit of games and meetings featuring approximately 10,000 soccer players, coaches and executives as well as families and friends that attended.

“Each year, the USL SoccerFest becomes a bigger success,” said USL Director of Business Development James Ward. “Being members of the community since the headquarters of USL moved to Tampa in 1996, we are proud of what this event has contributed to the greater Tampa area over the past three years.”

Prior to 2005, the USL AGM was held in numerous locations along the Gulf Coast of the greater Tampa Bay region and the Super Y-League Finals were hosted in different locations throughout the country. The event now brings top soccer executives and teams throughout North America as well as around the globe to Tampa. Among those attending in 2007 were executives from West Ham United of the English Premier League and a team from Ecuador that participated in the Five-A-Side Frenzy.

“We are thrilled to have this dynamic partnership with United Soccer Leagues,” said TBSC Executive Director Rob Higgins. “Each year’s event proves to have a tremendous economic and social impact on our incredible soccer community.”

Seals U13 Girls Find Nationals Tough
    November 19, 2007 - 10:03 AM
The San Francisco Seals U13 girls found the teams at the Super-Y League National Championship tournament tough, but they put up a good fight.  Losing the opening match on Friday morning against the Sunrise Soccer Club from Sunrise Florida 0-2, they bounced back Saturday against the tough Richmond Kickers with a strong showing in a 2-3 loss.

On Sunday, against the Quickstrike FC girls out of New York, the girls were shut out 0-2.  Their final match of the weekend came today (Monday November 19th) against the Black Watch Rhode Island Premier team, and the girls finished on a winning note with a 2-1 win.  Black Watch is a premier youth soccer club that develops and nurtures the top youth players in Rhode Island and Southern Massachusetts.

    Next year girls!

Seals Academy to Help U16 & U17 Players with College Exposure
This year the Seals Academy is making a concentrated effort to promote our U16, and U17 players to colleges in the Bay Area, and to those colleges where our players are interested in playing.

Participation in this program is strictly voluntary, but if you wish to participate - and we sincerely hope you will - our every intent is to help you be seen and promoted to college coaches.

How do the Seals intend on doing that?

    There are several key strategies:

    1. We know virtually ALL the D1, D2, and D3 college coaches in the Bay Area
    2. Their players are candidates for our U20 and PDL teams
    3. We have relationships with many college coaches outside the Bay Area
    4. The SF Seals PDL relationship will be leveraged with your college selection to promote you
    5. We can convert game tape to DVD for a fee of $20 per disc/game
    6. College coaches are Super Y and "PDL" aware - they will recognize the SF Seals
    7. We will invite coaches to your games
    8. We will send them season tickets to our PDL home games
    9. We will send them your Player Profile
    10. We will post player profiles on our website

Download your copy of the blank Seals Player Profile in Word format. Please fill it out, and return it to the Seals at:

    sfsealsmarketing@oursfseals.com

Put "Player Profile - [Your Team's Age Group]" in the email subject.

Please keep the document to one page (you can have a more detailed version to send directly if you like).

Seals U17's Attend Milk Cup in Northern Ireland
    August 20, 2006
The San Francisco Seals sent a U17 and a U15 team to the prestigious Milk Cup Tournament in Northern Ireland.  The U17 boys did quite well placing third in the Premier section Dunluce Trophy group.

The U17 team was put together from the Seals U17 Super Y team, and guest players that included former San Francisco United players Ryan Hirooka and Ryan Sheirich, and Robbie Tice joined the team from Canada.  While in Ireland they added two local players; Gary Quinn and Howard Beverland, and one English player; Carl Charmen.

The boys left for Ireland on July 22nd, with a one week stop in London.  While in London they trained, played the Stevenage Academy U19 team defeating them 3-2, played a group of professional players who were "on the beach" waiting for contracts, and defeated them 4-2.  After the Stevenage match the team was fortunate to attend a pre-season match with the Stevenage first team against the Tottenham Spurs.  The Spurs first team was there, and it was a special treat to see the likes of Robbie Keane and Jermain Defoe working their magic.  The Spurs won 3-0.  (Note that one of the Spurs fans spotted our boys & looked up the team online - check out his comments in our Forum section of this website.)

Our U15 team went directly to Shannon, Ireland where they trained and played a couple of friendly matches as well.

The U17 boys finished with a 2-3-0 record, with a tough 0-1 loss in the last three minutes against Sheffield United, an 0-4 loss against the local County Antrim team, a 0-0 draw against the Malta national team that was lost in PK's, and finishing on a high note with a 2-1 win over the Lichtenstein national team, and a 5-3 win over Otago from New Zealand.

The U15 boys struggled and came away without a win, but they kept their heads up and played tough in every match.

With scouts everywhere, autograph seekers, and fantastic competition, the boys came home with memories enough for a lifetime!

Check out these photos from the Milk Cup photographer from our match with Sheffield United.
