Chism Notches First Professional Win
Sun Valley Alum TJ Chism picked up his first professional win on Sunday, August 16th for the Kingsport Mets in a 4-3 win over Princeton. Coming on in relief, Chism pitched an inning and a third of hitless baseball, striking out one. He is currently third on the team in appearances, having made 14 appearances out of the bullpen in the team's 51 games. Chism has a 1-1 record and has struck out 18 batters in 16.1 innings for an average of 10.1 Ks/9 innings. Congratulations TJ!
Chism Makes Pro Debut
Sun Valley grad TJ Chism made a successful pro debut for the Kingsport Mets (short-season rookie league) Saturday evening. In a 15-7 loss to Bluefield (Orioles), Chism entered the game in the seventh inning with his team down 5-1, Chism rolled through the seventh and eighth innings as he struck out 3 and did not allow a hit in facing the minimum six batters. The Mets then scored 6 runs in the bottom of the eighth to put Chism in line for the win, up 7-5. Unfortunately, Mets' relievers would surrender 10 runs in the 9th and went on to win the game, 15-7. Irregardless, a great debut for TJ. Congrats!

Chism Selected In Major League Draft
Congratulations go out to 2006 Sun Valley alum and '06 Daily Times Player of the Year, TJ Chism, on his selection in the 2009 Major League Baseball Player Draft. TJ was selected in round 32 by the New York Mets as a pitcher. Chism is the first Sun Valley grad to be selected in the draft. He had just recently completed a stellar junior season at Lasalle University where he split time at first base (48 games, .310 avg., 47 runs, 11 home runs, 50 RBIs, .458 on-base pct., .561 slugging pct., 15 stolen bases) and on the mound while hitting out of the cleanup spot. He was a first team All-Big 5 Selection. Congratulations and best of luck TJ!
