League Season Ends With a Bang

Last night saw the conclusion of the Swindon League 2009, With the Nationwide Cyclones crowned League Champions.
The evening started with the playoff semi final between Pewsey Pirates and the Pavilion Panthers. The panthers started with 7 runs in the first innings but Pewsey chipped away constantly until finally taking the lead in the final inning of the match, Pewsey running out 17-16 winners in a tight contest with some fantastic plays throughout the game.
This set up a final between the Cyclones and the Pirates who finished 1st and 2nd in the league rankings. Both teams were up for the match and another great game of softball highlighted the growing strength of the Swindon League. The final score of 23-5 in favour of the Cyclones pays firm tribute to the strong defence which has been the difference for the Cyclones all season but doesn’t pay enough tribute to the performance of the Pewsey Pirates who in their first season have shown themselves to be formidable competitors.
If this year is anything to go by, I for one cannot wait for next season!
Tournament success's and looking forward to Solent

As some of you may be aware the Windsor Tournament was a resounding success with the Swindon Cyclones (made up of players from 4 of our league teams) gave a strong showing on both days and despite only one victory on the Saturday made up for it by going unbeaten on the Sunday and bringing home the Spoon Trophy, a fantastic achievement for our first (of many) tournaments!
The Bristol wRECk tournament proved to be an equal success with the Swindon Cyclones making it to the Plate final, narrowly beaten in the end but a great showing never the less. I am sure we will all agree that the tournaments this year have shown that the players from the Swindon League can mix it with other leagues!
We are now looking to enter a team into the Solent Lastball Tournament which will take place on the 19th and 20th September. If you are interested please contact Danny Seton ( Danny.Seton2@nationwide.co.uk ) for more information.
Any player from any of the Swindon League teams is welcome so even if it will be your first tournament, don’t let that put you off, I’m sure once you make it to one you will be hooked!
