    Toronto Tsunamis

The Toronto Tsunamis is a competitive masters synchronized swimming club in the Toronto region.

We currently meet for two hours each Friday evening at York Mills Collegiate, on York Mills Road between Leslie Street and Bayview Avenue and accessible by TTC. Practices are conducted under the care of NCCP certified coaches, and we are affiliated with Synchro Ontario as well as Synchro Canada.

The motto of masters synchro swim as per Synchro Canada is “Fun, Friendship & Fitness” and we strive to live by this motto.

New Club Website & More magazine!

The Toronto Tsunamis masters synchro club has a new website. We are moving to"www.torontotsunamis.com" as our main home on the Web. Please visit!

Also, the Toronto Tsunamis are featured in the April 2009 Canadian edition of More magazine. You can see a picture of our team on page 103. How cool is that?

    Our club name...
    Tsunami :(t)su-'nä-mE, noun
Etymology: Japanese, from tsu harbor + nami wave: a great sea wave produced by submarine earth movement or volcanic eruption : tidal wave

When we created the club we tried to come up with a name that sounded good and went with Toronto. We decided on the Toronto Tsunamis because it had a nice ring to it and because it was a bit of a joke. The joke was that some of us had gained weight since our competitive years and thus created tsunami size waves upon entering the water.

After the natural disaster in Asia in 2004, we did not find our name quite as funny. We wish to express our deepest sympathies to the victims of this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families.

    2008 Regionals
Tsunamis competed at Central-North Regionals in Newmarket on February 6, 2008. Congratulations to the team on a great performance, well worth the gold; to Lorie, our coach, for her first place medal in solo; and to Marilyn on her very first competitive solo. Check the photos page for some great pictures from Liam, our Offical Photographer/Videographer.

    Onward to Provincials!

    2007 Masters Provincials results
May 5, 2007 Toronto Tsunamis swam at Ontario Masters Provincial Championships on May 5, 2007. The Team came home with gold; Solo competitor Lorie earned a silver medal after sustaining an injury during the competition.

Congratulations go to our recreational duet of Teri and Marilyn, who debuted their new routine as pre-swimmers and wowed the audience!

Special thanks from all of us to Tanya, our coach and emergency nurse.

    Tsunamis win at Nationals!
Toronto Tsunamis travelled to Winnipeg, Manitoba the weekend of June 17, 2006 to participate in Canadian Masters Nationals, hosted by Sirens Synchro at the Pan Am Pool.

Success! Lorie McKnight defeated all comers to win gold in Solo, 30-39, and the Team earned a gold medal in the 35-49 category. Congratulations to all, special thanks to coach Atena Ludwa whose hard work has meant so much to us, and best wishes to our Duet of Trina Parry and Kathy Tam as they head on to Worlds this summer!
