Another Banner Year for the 2009 Summer Lacrosse Program

During the 2009 summer travel season, the Victor Youth Lacrosse (VYL) program continued to have unprecedented growth and success with its tournament and league play. The Victor Travel Program expanded to eight travel teams (U8-3 teams, U10-3 teams, and U12-2 teams) with over 125 players. Our teams played in one league and in eight tournaments across New York State. The winning percentage of all the Blue (“A”) Teams was .870 and all the Gold and White (“B” and “C”) Team percentages were over .500. The overall winning percentage of Victor’s 2009 travel season was .670.

At the U8 level, the Blue Team went 17-1 for the season and won championships at the Irondequoit Tournament, Hamburg Bulldog Tournament, and Victor’s own Premier Summer Lacrosse (PSL) League. The U8 Gold and White Teams were also very successful; the Gold and White Team were Co- Champs at the Hamburg Knights Tournament and the Gold Team was also runner-up at Victor’s Barefoot Classic Tournament.

The U10 Level travel teams had a year for the record books; its Blue Team went undefeated (22-0), winning championships at the Irondequoit Tournament, 1812 Shootout, (Sackets Harbor, NY), the PSL, and the John Pepper Tournament (Camillus, NY). The Blue Team is the first Victory travel team to go undefeated in a summer season. In its own right, the talented Gold Team went 14-7-1, finishing as a runner-up at the Barefoot Classic. The White Team finished the season by playing above .500 and winning the Championship game at the Hamburg Knights Tournament in overtime.

For its first time, the VYL program had two U12 Teams (Blue and Gold). The Blue Team won a championship at the 1812 Shootout and was runner-up at the John Pepper Tournament. It beat notable teams from programs such as: Irondequoit, Corning, Dublin, Ohio, Penfield, and Skaneateles. The U12 Gold Team had a respectable season finishing strong as a runner-up at the Hamburg Knight’s Lacrosse Tournament.

Finally, as always, the VYL program would like to congratulate its players and thank the countless number of volunteers, coaches, and parents for their continued support.  In addition, a special thanks to those who helped expand the Barefoot Classic Tournament and to start-up the inaugural season of the Premier Summer League. Without everyone’s commitment, our program would not have experienced its growth, continued player development, and built upon its reputation as one of the up-and-coming lacrosse programs in Upstate, New York.  Please “keep an eye” on our web-site for any announcements regarding the Junior Turkeyshoot Lacrosse Tournament that will be held on Saturday, November 7th and the Fall/Winter Indoor Leagues held at the Total Sports Experience, in Rochester NY.

Can You Do This!
No, that's not Coach Ierlan...that's Mikey Powell going airborne over a defenseman for a behind the goal dunk. Ask your coach to demonstrate.
