BLUGOLDS TAKE TWO FROM PANTHERS
The boys in the blue and gold continued their run of success this weekend against the UW-Milwaukee Panthers. In Friday night's game, the Blugolds relied on great pitching and tough defense to get them the victory by a score of 3-1. Blugold ace, Brian Dickow, went the distance and pitched all nine innings. In Saturday's first game of the double-header, sophomore pitcher Max Reisner was back at it again with another stellar performance on the mound. He attributes most of his success to not wearing an undershirt and letting the chest hair flow. (I'm just giving you the facts, people.) With a timely 2-run single by catcher Matt Dimartino in the fifth inning, the Blugolds were able to hold off the Panthers and earn a 4-1 victory. In the final game of the series, the Panthers bats unfortunately came to life and the Blugolds were in a 1-9 hole heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. Despite the Blugolds best efforts at a rally, which included a 2-run home run by second basemen, Corey Steier, the Blugolds ended up losing by a score of 9-3. With the series victory, the Blugolds improve to a record of 6-3 on the season and will travel down to Northwestern next weekend in what could be a series that determines the conference title. Thanks to all the fans that came out this weekend and go Blugolds!
Blugolds Sweep the Golden Eagles
The Blugolds Club Baseball team crossed off a view items off their spring-cleaning list this past weekend, as they were able to sweep the Marquette Golden Eagles. In the first game of the series on Saturday, Max Reisner took the hill for the Blugolds and pitched a gem. He struck out 7 batters and only gave up one run in his five-innings of work. The Blugolds bats heated up as well and they cruised to an 11-1 victory. Brian Dickow tossed the second game for the Blugolds and much like a kid with a sugar rush, the Blugolds bats just wouldn’t stay quiet. Adam Bielmeier crushed a 3-run homerun and the Blugolds never looked back and won by a score of 10-2. In the series finale on Sunday morning, junior pitcher Justin Johnson took to the mound and made a quality start by going 7 innings. Adam Bielmeier hit another bomb to left, which drove in two runs and the Blugolds completed the sweep of the Golden Eagles by a score of 8-4. The boys in the blue and gold advance to a record of 4-2 in the conference and look to beat the UW-Milwaukee Panthers this weekend in another home series.
The Boys of Fall: UWEC Club Baseball
Yes, that’s right. The fall isn’t just for football and the baseball pros, folks. The UWEC Club Baseball Team is back in action right away this fall with two weekend series to satisfy your baseball hunger needs until the spring. We know, you’re getting antsy to see your boys in the blue and gold again. Well, you’re in luck. The Blugolds kick off the new school year with a double header on Saturday September 12th against Winona State at Bollinger Field at noon. From then on, the Blugolds get a couple weeks off, well, more like six weeks off. You might see your boys out in the field with long johns on when they travel down to UW-Madison for a three game weekend series on October 24th.
The Blugolds are looking to do great things this season and to build off of last season’s success. The team only graduated two seniors and will have a young, but experienced team this season. With strong arms on the mound and big bats in the lineup, you can be sure that they are going to have a great shot at winning a lot of games this season. We hope to see you in the stands either this fall or this spring or both! Remember, the power of the stash [AND] the seeds goes a long way. We’ll see ya at the field. Go Blugolds!
Blugolds Get Swept By Panthers
The UWEC Club Baseball team took on the UW-Milwaukee Panthers this weekend in Milwaukee with the goal in mind to upset the Panthers conference championship dreams. It was a good thought, but ultimately didn’t come together in the end. In Friday night’s 9-inning battle, the Blugolds had trouble getting the sticks going and fell to the Panthers 5-2. In Saturday’s double-header, the weather was not the only thing that was getting heated. In the first of the two games, the Blugolds and Panthers were battling throughout the game. Chirps were being exchanged and one might have thought we could have seen a possible fight before the Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight. The game ended up going into extras and the Blugolds were stymied once again. In the final game of the series, the boys in blue and gold looked as though they were going to walk away easily with the W, but much like a girl who recently broke up with her jerk of a boyfriend, the Panthers ended up coming back and were able to win the game. Even though the Blugolds lost the series, Matt DuVall was able to have a career weekend at the plate by going 8-11 in the series. The UWEC Blugolds Club Baseball team would end their season with a conference record of 5-10. They would like to thank all of the fans for coming out and supporting them during the season and they hope to see everybody again next year. Finally, they’d like to thank their seniors, Sam White and Mike Arnold for their hard work and dedication to the team. We will see you next year for another season! Go Blugolds!
Weather Not The Only Thing Heating Up In Eau Claire
Mama, the Blugold Club Baseball team is playing with the matches again! Yes, that’s right, the Blugolds bats have been heating up and it’s helped them put more W’s in the win column. The Blugolds were able to take two out of three games from the Marquette Golden Eagles this weekend. UWEC won the first game by a score of 7-5. They were also able to comeback in the second game and ended up winning by a score of 10-9 provided by the power of Adam Bielmeier [AND] Jake Eckhardt, who both hit dingers (HRs). Marquette was able to squeak past the Blugolds in the third game with a heart breaking walk off win by a score of 4-3. The Blugold’s are now 4-5 this year in conference play and still have six conference games left to play on the schedule. April 25-26th the Blugolds will host UW-Madison’s Club Baseball Team at Bollinger Fields and on May 2nd-3rd, they will travel to Milwaukee to take on UW-Milwaukee’s Club Team.
