2010 SPRING BASEBALL TRYOUTS AND DRAFTS
BASEBALL TRYOUTS FOR EACH DIVISION WILL BE HELD ON THE FOLLOWING DATES:
(League age is the player’s age on April 30, 2010)
MAJOR LEAGUE (League age 12 & under) – Monday, February 8, 2010 at 6 PM, MAJOR FIELD
MINOR LEAGUE (League age 10 & under) – Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at 6 PM, MINOR FIELD
ROOKIE LEAGUE (League age 6 through 8) – Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at 6 PM, MINOR FIELD
T-BALL LEAGUE (League age 4 through 6) – Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 6 PM, MINOR FIELD
SENIOR LEAGUE (League age 13 through 15) – Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 6 PM, SENIOR FIELD
Players that are required to participate in tryouts are as follows:
- All players that are new to Fernandina Beach Babe Ruth League
- All returning players that are required to move up a division because of their age
Returning players that are not required to move up because of their age may elect to tryout for a higher division. They must participate in the higher division’s tryout to be considered in the higher division’s draft. They do not have to tryout in the division that they played in last season. (An example would be a 2010 league age 10 year old that played in the Minor League in 2009 that elects to tryout for Major League in 2010. The player must participate in the Major League tryout to be considered in the Major League draft. If the player is selected for the Major League, his Minor League manager is notified before the Minor League draft. If the player is not selected in the Major League draft, he will return to the Minor League team that he played on in 2009. The player does not have to tryout for Minor League this year. The same would hold true for an 8 year old that wants to tryout for Minor League.)
Returning players that are not moving up and that do not want to tryout for a higher division do not participate in tryouts.
Players that did not participate in Fernandina Beach Babe Ruth League in 2009 and want to be considered for a higher division would be required to tryout for both divisions. If he/she is selected in the higher division’s draft, the lower division managers are notified before their draft. If the player is not selected in the higher division's draft, he/she will be selected in the lower division's draft.
Players must participate in tryouts to be eligible for the draft. Players that do not tryout prior to the draft will be randomly drawn and placed on teams.
Drafts will be held the week of February 15, 2010. Only team managers are allowed to participate in the league drafts. Players will be contacted by their manager or coach on or before Sunday, February 21, 2010. Practice is scheduled to begin the week of February 22, 2010.
2010 BASEBALL REGISTRATION
Fernandina Beach Babe Ruth League is offering baseball for boys and girls ages 4 to 15 PARTICIPANTS MUST BE 4 YEARS OF AGE BEFORE MAY 1ST TO BE ELIGIBLE TO PLAY.
New in 2010 Fernandina Beach Babe Ruth League is offering baseball for 4 and 5 year olds. A new T-Ball division has been added for this age group.
2010 FERNANDINA BEACH BABE RUTH DIVISIONS
(League age is player's age on April 30, 2010)
Senior League (League Age 13 through 15)
Major League (League Age 12 & Under)
Minor League (League Age 10 & Under)
Rookie League (League Age 6 through 8)
T-Ball League (League Age 4 through 6)
Registration fees for the T-Ball and Rookie Leagues is $55.00. Players will receive a team hat and jersey for their uniform.
Registration fees for Senior, Major and Minor Leagues is $100.00. Player will receive a team hat, jersey, pants, socks and a belt for their uniform.
LATE REGISTRATION IS AVAILABLE DURING THE WEEK OF TRYOUTS. YOU MAY REGISTER AT THE PARK BETWEEN 5:30 PM AND 7:00 PM, MONDAY, FEBRUARY 8TH THROUGH THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 11TH.
AFTER FEBRUARY 6TH AN ADDITIONAL $25 LATE FEE APPLIES. SPACE IS LIMITED, SO PLEASE REGISTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
IF NEW TO THE LEAGUE PLEASE MAKE SURE TO BRING A COPY OF THE CHILD'S BIRTH CERTIFICATE
During the offseason, the league met with the City of Fernandina Beach Parks and Recreation Department and agreed to offer the T-Ball league program in addition to our Rookie League to replace the T-Ball and Buddy League program that were previously offered in the summer by the City. As part of the agreement, the City of Fernandina Beach Parks and Recreation Department will offer youth softball in place of the softball program previously offered under Fernandina Beach Babe Ruth.
FERNANDINA BEACH BABE RUTH LEAGUE IS LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS
If you are interested in volunteering, please complete the volunteer application online. There is no cost to volunteer. Fernandina Beach Babe Ruth is volunteer driven organization. Lets all pitch in to make our league the best it can be for our kids.
Coaches and managers must complete the Babe Ruth Certification. You may access the certification online at the following link:
Coaching Certification
After passing the course, the manager/coach must present the certificate of completion to the baseball director no later than February 6, 2010. The fee is $19.99; however, once obtained the certification is good for life. You may mail your certificate to P.O. Box 722, Fernandina Beach, FL 32035 or send it in via email.
VOLUNTEERS MUST AGREE TO A BACKGROUND CHECK, ATTEND CLINICS AND ATTEND WORK DAYS.
VOLUNTEER POSITIONS ARE:
Managers, coaches, team coordinators, concession stand manager (board position), ground crews, scorekeepers, tournament committee and fundraising committee. Please contact a board member if you have any questions.
Fernandina Beach Babe Ruth will be maintaining our baseball fields in 2010. The league will have two fundraisers during the season to assist with the maintenance costs as well as equipment and improvement costs.
In addition, each team will be responsible to provide a crew to line the field before each game, pick up trash in and around the dugouts and sweep out the dugouts following each game.
2010 FUNDRAISERS
BOSTON BUTTS - WE WILL NEED VOLUNTEERS TO COOK ALL NIGHT AND TO SUPPLY GRILLS. OUR GOAL IS TO RAISE FUNDS TO PAY A LANDSCAPING COMPANY TO MOW, AND SPRAY THE FIELDS.
MAGAZINE SELLS AVAILABLE ON LINE AT THIS WEB SITE TO RAISE FUNDS FOR T-BALL EQUIPMENT.
PHOTOS - WE ENCOURAGE EACH TEAM TO HAVE THEIR PHOTOS TAKEN BY THE LEAGUE'S PHOTOGRAPHY VENDOR. THE LEAGUE RECEIVES A PERCENTAGE OF THE TOTAL PHOTOGRAPHY SALES.
