2009 Damascus Sports Association Football Season
Welcome to another exciting and competitive year of Cougar football. This year will mark our 38th season of Cougar football. With the transition complete, our first season in Mid Maryland Football was a total success. We will continue to improve during the upcoming season. Again, we plan on placing teams into the American and Federal divisions of MMYFL along with 1 or 2 flag teams. Cheerleading will accompany our players at these same levels. Head coaches will soon be selected and registration will occur by May 2009. It is very important returning players respond by the due date or positions on teams may not be available. We plan on placing teams in two divisions at MMYFL and will conduct an internal tryout and assessment of players allowing the coaches to place children where they will benefit the most and make our teams competitive within the league. More will be explained during camp which will start The last week of July. Our DSA boundaries will not allow players outside to participate on a select team (American) unless we are unable to fill the roster with DSA members. These players may participate on any Federal team. This year we will add additional requirements to the must play rule within our organization so all players are treated equally during the games.
Mid Maryland Football has a must play rule which will assist players in becoming better players in game situations. 6-8 yr olds, 7-9 yrs, 8-10 yrs, 9-11 yrs, 10-12 yrs and 11-13 yrs are the age breakdowns of children in the 6 areas of each division. This league has minimum playing time rules or substitutions. Refer to age weight chart (page 19 of MMYFCL Rules) for details as there are weight limitations. This league has teams in Howard, Carroll, Baltimore and Frederick Counties. The MMYFL website can be accessed from the left menu bar.
Games are played at Damascus High School and host site for the the league. A conditioning camp will begin July 29th 2009 at Baker Middle school with practice starting the 1st week of August and will run up to 4 nights a week until school starts and then 3 days a week at the discretion of the Head Coach. We try to use Middle and Elementary schools for practice locations in the Damascus area.
Team uniforms, shoulder pads, pants pads, rib protectors, are provided. Practice jerseys, spikes, athletic cup, practice pants and helmet with mouth guard are the players responsibility.
Contact Matt Murray @ mmurray@powermaxonline.com should you have any questions.
All players are expected to wear all safety equipment provided. A mouth guard, cup, girdle and cleats must be purchased. Also, a helmet must be purchased and inspected for wear on the second year of use. For helmet information go to "Handouts and Forms" and see the "Helmet Information" form.
