The Story....
In the beginning, I started as an adviser in the OK Program (mentoring program located at Mills Middle School in Rancho Cordova). Then, I became a noon supervisor at Mills Middle School and recognized the need of a year around fundamentally sound youth basketball program in Rancho Cordova, CA. In the interim, a vision came to me about how to put together a structured program for children with the OK Program. As I was mentoring on Saturdays, it was brought to my attention that another adviser wanted to provide quality basketball instruction. A phone call was initiated to Fletcher Johnson. Realizing that we both had similar views, we agreed to work together. We formed our first 9th grade boys team in August, 1998. In September, 1999, a combined 5th and 6th grade division was added to SMOOTH. Word had spread through the Rancho Cordova/Sacramento areas about the success of the teams. The summers of 1999 and 2000, we had girls compete in competitive leagues in the Sac area.
In 2001, we had several teams participate in NJB leagues, SSA, and AAU sanctioned events. In 2002, we took a year hiatus to decide how we can make it better, serve children of a less affluent background, and obtain donations/sponsorships (due to the expenses were paid out of our personal finances).
In April, 2003, an associate spoke with me about structuring SMOOTH into an organization.
And now....
SMOOTH Sports Association was formed as a non profit organization on May 15, 2003. It is an athletic based mentoring organization dedicated and committed in encouraging and promoting children to learn the fundamentals of basketball, excel academically, and able to handle life challenges.
Our club believes in promoting literacy, working with the community, providing a solid structure, performing with the highest degree of integrity, respect, and dignity, and enhancing basketball skills. Our club is working with the schools, community, and agencies to extend mentoring for the young athletes in hope for them to become productive citizens in society.
Presently, we have two competitive teams, 6th grade and high school. Our dream is that with the success of the current teams, we will have the opportunity to expand our club to include 3rd though 12th grade teams for boys and girls.

SMOOTH is excited, because of the bounce to a positive upward direction. We believe the success in our program is due to the parents and community involvement.
"It takes a village to raise a child" - African Proverb This proverb is so true. Children are facing many difficult challenges today: drugs, alcohol, low self concept, gangs, broken families, and many more. It is important for our working together to help children grow and move forward in the world. We will continue encouraging our children to succeed in school, strive to make good choices, and become productive citizens in this society. We are attempting to make this happen with hard work, dedication, and committment from all involved with SMOOTH Sports Association, Inc.

Preps Plus: Top Three
-
Published 12:00 am PST Tuesday, February 12, 2008
Bryce Sullivan is a guard for West Campus' boys basketball team. The junior has converted five or more three-pointers in two games this season. He scored six against Burton of San Francisco in December and five against Salinas later that month. Today, he shares his three favorite college basketball programs:
1. Georgetown. I like their coaching staff and their style of play, which is pretty fast-paced. They get up and down the floor.
2. Florida. They've won back-to-back national championships, and I think they can win some more.
3. USC. I think this is going to be a pretty good program with O.J. Mayo. And I like that they're in Los Angeles, near Hollywood.
