The Catholic Sports League is very fortunate to be able to play our games at different Catholic schools around town.  In order to continue to play at these venues, all teams must do a better job with the cleanup after the games.  Please make sure that your school takes away all trash (water bottles, wrappers, towels and anything else) after each game.  This includes all family members watching the games.

THE PRAYER OUR COACHES WILL LEAD OUR ATHLETES IN BEFORE GAMES

God our Father, help us to put forth our best effort, to represent our school with class, to respect our opponents, and to grow as disciples of your Son, Jesus.

Keep us safe from injury and harm through the intercession of Our Lady, the mother of your Son and our mother, too. We ask this through Christ, our Lord.

Amen

"Sport, properly directed, develops character, makes a man courageous, a generous loser, and a gracious victor; it refines the senses, gives intellectual penetration, and steels the will to endurance. It is not merely a physical development then. Sport, rightly understood, is an occupation of the whole man, and while perfecting the body as an instrument of the mind, it also makes the mind itself a more refined instrument for the search and communication of truth and helps man to achieve that end to which all others must be subservient, the service and praise of his Creator."

– Pope Pius XII,
Sport at the Service of the Spirit

MINISTRY OF COACHING
While all schools demand that student-athletes represent themselves, their family and friends as well as the school in an appropriate manner, it is always a good idea to make sure we (the adults) check ourselves, and the parents attending the game, to make sure we are all leading by example.  All coaches have different styles, but when conflict arises, we all must all handle it in a calm, consistent manner.  The ministry of coaching involves protecting the joyful dimension of sports as competitive play and the educational dimension of sports as fostering children's physical, social, moral, and spiritual development.
