Intense competition was the order of the day as the drivers enter the home stretch for the “$2000.00 Buy & Sell Cup”.
The Compact Thunder Division Heat Races were won by Steven Peach from Adam’s Cove and Steven Budden from Pouch Cove.
The Feature Race was a one two battle between Art Goodyear and Steven Peach in early going. A determined Harnum Jackson who had finish second in his Heat race returned in the Feature and move to the front spot by lap eight. A wreck on lap nine forced Jackson to the rear. Rookie Turner who had started in last place had worked his way through the field was now the leader. The time allotted for the race expired with Turner in front followed by Goodyear, Peach, Petten and Peter Hiscock rounding out the top five.
Street Lightning Heat Races were won by Scottie Royal, Jason Neville, and Jason Groves of Hearts Desire.
In the Feature Race Scottie Royal was the leader in the early going until he was over taken by the #41 of Mark Best on lap seven. Jason Groves was tight to the bumper of Best as they went toward the front passing Regular Season Champion Neville in the process. At the finish line it was Best in front followed by Groves, Neville, Scottie Royal and Cup Contender Lloyd Traverse.
The Super Stock Heat race was won by Cyril Robson with Wayne Walsh taking second and David Bishop #19 in third. The Feature Race saw Dennis Weir take the lead in the early going. Weir was followed by Robson in the #58. An accident sent Hicks in #30 and Robson in #58 to the Pits. Robson had a broken Radiator and was unable to continue and Hicks was on the Trailer. Walsh held the lead to the end and was followed across the line by Weir and David Bishop in the Sky Steel Car. Robson and Hicks rounded out the top five.
The “Bikes on Dirt Series” had Junior rider Lloyd Traverse Jr. on a Honda take the win over Benson Madden on the #5 bike. Trike rider Justin Eason on a Yamaha edged out Luke Best from Conception Bay South. Quad Rider Robert Button from CBS beat Ronald Mahoney from Holyrood to the line for the win.

Competition becomes more intense as drivers enter Race # 3 in the ‘Chase for the Buy & Sell Cup’.
Thunder Division Heat Races were won by newcomer Matt Turner of Hearts Delight, and Brad Sheppard from Harbour Grace.
The Feature Race saw Sheppard return and appeared to be well on his way to another win. Sheppard took the lead on lap one and looked like he was un-stoppable. At the mid way point he was out in from and pulling away from the field. The race for second was between #73 of Art Goodyear, #22 of Peter Hiscock and #74 of Harnum Jackson but after the midway point it was the #73 of Goodyear taking control of second place. Steven Peach in the #86 who had been working his way through the field made a pass on Harnum Jackson to take over third on lap 13. Tuner follow Peach to take fourth place. The running order remained this way for another four laps. Sheppard had now led 18 laps when his car appeared to be losing power. Art Goodyear who had been in second took over the first place spot for the remaining two laps. At the line it was Goodyear, Peach, Turner, Furlong with Sheppard rounding out the top five.
Street Lightning Heat Races were won by Jason Neville from St. John’s and Paddy Murphy of Foxtrap.
The Feature had a pile-up in turn one on the first lap which had regular season champion Jason Neville forced to pit. The defending cup champion in car #26 and the #50 of Royal crashed into the tire barrier in turn 2 which forced Royal to the pits unable to continue. Petten in the #26 took over the lead for the next two laps. Jason Neville and Lloyd Traverse were side by side until Neville took over the lead on lap three and started to separate himself from the field. The race for second was between Traverse, Guest#24 and Murphy in #127. Guest pulled ahead on lap 5 and move away from #68 and #127. The race for third between #68 and #127 saw Murphy in #127 hold off the #68 of Traverse who appeared to exercise caution in his pursuit of Cup Points. David Atkinson in the #10 rounded out the top five.
The Super Stock Heat race was won by Dennis Weir with Justin Robson in #58 a close second and Walsh in #99 taking third.
The Feature Race saw Dennis Weir with a completely rebuilt and painted #59. Weir was involved in a major crash in the early going last week which forced him to the pits with lots of damage. Weir was firmly in control in the early going on a slick track. It appeared that the handling went away
which aloud Cyril Robson in the #58 to move around Weir. The Ford of Robson appeared to have an edge on the slick surface as he held on for the win.
Walsh brought out a caution on lap four when he broke a side axle on the right rear. David Bishop moved around Weir on lap 17 and picked up second place at the line. Weir got third and Josh Collins who seemed to have more than his share of troubles picked up fourth. Wayne Walsh rounded out the top five.

Stock Car Drivers turn out in record numbers for the ‘Chase for the Buy & Sell Cup’.
Thunder Division Heat Races were won by Fraser Petten from North River, Jordie White, of Pouch Cove and Brian Furlong, The Goulds. The Feature Race resembled a Demolition Derby in the early going. It took five re-starts before a complete lap was entered on the record by this time over half the starting field were in the pits being worked on. When the banging and smashing ended it was #80 Brad Sheppard who had started in the fifteen spot was able to lead the first lap, Peter Hiscock was in second and rookie Robert Legge in third. On the next lap it was Rookie Legge taking command and leading the next three laps. Legge was being trailed by the hard charging #20 of Brian Furlong who took the lead on the next lap and held off Brad Sheppard for the win. Rookie Legge picked up third, Fraser Petten was fourth and Points Leader #86 Peach rounded out the Top Five.
Street Lightning Heat Races were won by Scottie Royal from Job’s Cove, Steven Guest of the Goulds and Mark Best in the #41. The Feature Race saw Scottie Royal return and lead the first six laps while trying to hold of the regular Season Champion Jason Neville in the #37. Neville was able to get the Honda under Royal and lead the next four laps. Mark Best in the # 41 who had started well back in the field had move to within Neville’s bumper. Best used the ‘Chrome Horn’ on Royal and Neville to get by on the inside and take the lead in the Dodge Neon. The Season Champion Neville trailed Best across the line to take second. Royal held on for third and Larry Carew got fourth. Buy and Sell Cup contender Lloyd Traverse of Placentia rounded out the top five.
The Super Stock Heat races were won by #59 Dennis Weir of CBS and #58 Cyril Robson from Foxtrap. The Feature Race first lap crash fill event had lots of bent and torn metal. It appeared that most of the cars on the track made contact with each other or the retaining wall. When the spinning stopped and the dust settled it was Dennis Weir into the wall with lots of damage to his #59. Weir had to be towed to the pits with major damage, he was unable to get the car repaired and back in the race. On the re-start it was Mr. Determination moving the #156 into the lead while being trailed by David Bishop in #19. Cyril Robson in #58 who had won last week’s Feature started in the rear and was moving his way through the field. Robson got by Season Champion #99 and was trying to run down the Leader Collins. Meanwhile a former Track champion Shane Verge in the Pink #29 who had retired after he won the Championship over five years ago was attempting a ‘come back’. Verge started in the back and appeared to still have all the right moves until a calliper locked up on his car, he made contact with the tire wall and rolled over ending up in turn three on his roof. The St. John Ambulance was quickly on the scene and determine the driver was ok but the car was unable to continue. When racing resumed Robson took control and lead the remaining laps while being trailed by Josh Collins. Season Champion Wayne Walsh appeared to exercise restraint and caution while settling for third and picking up some valuable points toward the Buy & Sell Cup. Fourth place went to David Bishop in #19 and Gerald Hicks in #30 rounded out the top five.
The Burnout Contest saw Andrew Morgan of Carbonear first to start the burnout. Morgan had the Black and Gold covered in smoke until the tire exploded. Stephen Gosine was next on the burnout pad and continued to smoke the tires on the Blue 97 Honda Accord. Gosine need assistance to keep the car in position until the tire gave out. Next up was Lloyd Traverse in Hyundai Elantra, the front wheel drive was engulfed in smoke until a tire exploded. Aaron Woodman of New Harbour in a rear wheel drive chevy started to smoke the tires. Shortly after the smoke began pieces of rubber began to fly causing Woodman to abort the Burnout. The fan applause determine the Traverse was the winner and Morgan was a very close second.

The Weather Channel was calling for Sunny Skies and no rain while we had Envoirnment Canada calling for Cloudy periods and showers in the afternoon. The Weather Channel called it correctly as no rain fell and with temperatures in the mid teens it was a great day for racing at Avondale Speedway!
Thunder Division Heat Races were won by Fraser Petten from North River, Art Goodyear Pouch Cove and Brian Furlong The Goulds. The Feature Race had a determined driver from Harbour Grace by the name of Blair Sheppard take the lead on the first lap and lead the first seven laps until he was passed by Brian Furlong. Sheppard shot back under Furlong on the next lap to take back the lead and hold on for the checkered flag. The regular season points champion Steven Peach passed furlong to take and hold second to the finish. Peach was challenged for second by Harnum Jackson and Art Goodyear but it was Goodyear picking up third and Harnum Jackson fourth. Peter Hiscock from Spaniards Bay rounded out the top five.
Street Lightning Heat Races were won by Scottie Royal from Job’s Cove, Steven Guest Goulds and Jason Neville from St. John’s. The Feature Race saw the Regular Season Points Champion Jason Neville start in the rear of the field. He was working his way toward the front but on lap six was sidelined with a blown motor. This set the stage for a shout-out between two former track Champions (Jason Groves of Hearts Desire and Steven Guest from the Goulds) . Jason Weir lead the first lap but he was overtaken and passed by Guest on lap two. Weir continue to challenge Guest but was unable to make the pass. Meanwhile former track champion Jason Groves made a move around Weir and was closing in on front runner Guest. Groves continued to trail Guest and attempt to pass Guest for the next 13 laps but Guest “protected the line”. On the last lap Groves charged to the inside of Guest coming off turn four, Guest continued to “protect the line” forcing Groves to infield which allowed Guest to grab the checkered flag. Scottie Royal who is in the chase for the Cup followed Groves and finished third. Cup contenders Traverese and Carey rounded out the top five.
The Powder Puff Race had more lady racer’s than there were cars available. However Samantha Walsh from Placentia was ahead of the game when she came prepared with her own well prepared pink #18 with Collins Contacting as her sponsor. Samantha was the driver many thought would never race again when she rolled over a car borrowed from a driver in her very first race. When the green flag was dropped it was Amanda Lannon from Placentia charging to the front in a car owned by newcomer Robert Legge. Last years Champion Amy Dunne of Renews started in the back and was working her way through the field in an effort to catch the fast moving car of Lannon. At the finish line Lannon took the checkered flag with Amy Dunne close behind followed by Samantha Walsh and Leona Chaison of the Goulds in the #20 car. Amy Dunne continues to lead in the point standings for 2009 Powder Puff Championship she also is leading in the voting as one of Avondale Speedway drivers in the “Atlantic Canada’s Driver of the year Award” on the website www.RacingSpectator.ca
The Super Stock Heat races were won by Josh Collins of Placentia and Wayne Walsh of Holyrood. The Feature Race saw the #19 driven by David Bishop lead the first lap. Gerald Hicks in the #30 passed Bishop and held on for the next two laps until he was passed by Cyril Robson and a close following Walsh in the #99. Weir in #59 was in fourth at Lap four but mechanical problems caused him to pit on lap six. Walsh followed Robson for the next 13 laps at times close to the back bumper. Walsh was unable to get around Robson maybe due in part to a tire which was going down and which eventually forced him to pit on lap 17. Hicks followed Robson across the finish line. Steady and careful driving by Dwayne Carter in the #32 Tulk Tire Car earned third place. David Bishop in #19 Sky Steel car got fourth and Wayne Walsh rounded out the top five.

Avondale Speedway saw this seasons record turnout of cars and spectators with the temperature hitting 30C.
Heat races were won by Blair Sheppard, Steven Peach, Charlie Noftall, Larry Carey, Jason Neville and Wayne Walsh.
The "Bikes and Quads on Dirt Series" had Lloyd Traverse Jr. take the Junior Race, Tony Murphy from the Goulds won the Pro Race and Robert Button fom Conception Bay South won the Race for Quads. The Thunder Feature race had Steven Peach lead the most laps but a blow-out with two laps to go saw Rod Noseworthy who had been fighting for the lead take over and go on to win the Thunder Feature. The race was delayed for a short time as the 71 car of Sean Porter rolled over in turn one. When Racing resumed Shane Leonard of St. John's who had started the race in last place methodically worked his way through traffic to take second place. Peter Hiscock took third. Peach got fourth and Steve Budden of Pouch Cove rounded out the top five.
The Lightning Feature had the 127 Car of Paddy Murphy setting the pace and controlling the first half of the race. Jason Neville then took control but a determined Jason Groves was all over the back bumper of Neville until a blown tire forced Neville to the pits. Groves then took the lead but was hounded at every turn by Larry Carey of Fermuse. Groves hung on for the win with Carey taking second. Mark Lannon was third followed by last weeks Feature Winner Lloyd Traverse. Jonathon Wakeham rounded out the top five. The Super Stock main event had Gerald Hicks in the 30 Car leading the early laps until he was overtaken by the Ford of Robson and the Dodge of Walsh. The Ford and Dodge exchanged the lead until Walsh got the jump in the final laps and beat Robson to the finish line and the checkered flag. Steven Peach who had been on Stevensons bumper took over the lead and went on for the win. Art Goodyear who had been working his way through traffic got second followed by Shane Nichols in third and Justin Linehan in 4th.
The Lightning Feature had a battle for the lead going between Traverse, Neville, Petten and Murphy. Murphy's engine exploded on lap 8th resulting in his car being engulfed in flames. He managed to get the car to the pits where the blaze was extinguished. On the restart Neville who had been leading the race began to drop off the pace. Traverse then took over the lead and went on to take the checkered flag. Traverse was followed accross the finish line by Fraser Petten and Corey Bishop. The Super Stock main event had Wayne Walsh leading the most laps but an accident between Walsh and Robson sent Walsh to the Pits and Robson to the Checkered Flag.
