2024 Nassau Modifield Softball League

It’s a new season and we now have 10 teams – no byes

It looks like we will be playing every week except Memorial weekend which will be used for make up and optional extra games but we are limited on number of fields that day anyway. There really is no July 4th weekend bc it falls mid week so we will be playing regular scheduled games both weekends surrounding that day.

The goal as always is to attempt to play 14 weeks but bc we are Sundays only, there are usually no make ups. Based on the number of weeks available, we would start the playoffs the 1st week of august on the 4th. That could get pushed to 8/11 if we experience too many rainouts but that becomes risky if rains during August which would make the championship game played in September

Scores – Please email me scores after the games and list the pitchers that pitched each game – this is to determine if they qualify for the playoffs – see rule # 10 below. We might be updating our old website soon – we will keep u posted.

Rosters  and Illegal bat list will be sent in sep email later today or tomorrow. Rosters Must be turned in to parks dept by May 19 – u have 5 weeks to complete them.

SCHEDULE – Everyone will play each other 1x during 1st round – then we will realign based on level of play –

HERE ARE THE RULES – read the pitching rule #10 below and illegal bat rule # 9 below.

We are a Gentlemen’s League with long standing teams and players – Ultimately that will take precedence over any decision that we make. Cheating WILL NOT be TOLERATED but I don’t expect this from this group of teams.

1 – We have a New Umpire organization that must learn our rules so I need every team to be considerate of that. We will have a ZERO Tolerance rule in place with respect to our new umpire group. Modified Pitching might be new to some of them, so I would be handling any issues if they can’t – Please be aware of this.

2 – Game Times – we play doubleheaders every Sunday morning starting at 9am and ending at 12pm – 3 hour limit will be strictly imposed unless the umpire agrees to stay a little longer to complete game 2. Otherwise game 2 could be cut short and become a complete game after 4 innings or 3 ½ if home team is winning. If game 1 is long, then please move game 2 along to avoid ending it too early. Eliminate warm up, go to a 1 and 1 count if both managers agree – just move game along quickly. No inning should start after 11:50 am. At times if umpires ask for an 830am start time, we must accommodate them so they can move on to their other games. Run rule is if winning by 11 runs or more after 5 innings or 9 runs or more after 6 innings the game is over.

3 – Rainouts – I usually try to make a decision as early as I can based on weather, field conditions and determination by fields IF I can get them on the phone. Managers can contact each other and agree to cancel games or to go to field and hope for the best. You must let me know of your own decision so I can let the umpires know in time. Managers and park tel numbers are listed below.

4 – Holidays – memorial day is usually used for make ups and/or addl games for those who want to play.

5 – DH/EH/PH Rules

  • DH anyone can be DH’d for and that hitter can only replace the player he is DHing for – No reentry.
  • EH – you can use as many EH’s that you want – they must all bat the entire game and go in and out of the field for others playing the field but the lineup cannot change. If removed from game and no replacement made then it would be an automatic out in the lineup spot.
  • PH – can pinch hit for any player but must permanently replace that player – No Reentry.

6 – Courtesy Runners – you can use 2 plus the catcher and can agree to more.

7 – Each Team must Provide 1 ball each per game. Uniform shirts should be worn by all players.

8 – Rosters – 20 players allowed and you can add up to 5 weeks before the end of the season for that player to qualify for the playoffs. Every play must play at least 5 regular season weeks(not just games) in order to qualify for the playoffs and that includes pitchers. Rosters must be turned in by last week of May bc we must submit to the various towns. If adding players afterwards, please send email with player info.

9 – Illegal Bats – if used the player will be thrown out of game and suspended for 3 addl weeks. If more than 3 players are using the same bat, that bat could be deemed illegal and may be banned from further use in the league for the rest of the season.

  • This year if it is brought to my attention that a player or team is potentially using an illegal bat, that bat could be automatically banned – So be prepared to lose any bat during the season – ZERO TOLERANCE

10 – Pitching Rules – we must follow modified pitching rules whereby pitchers must finish their follow through square to the plate. No sling shop style is allowed. We are also a B Level league and any pitcher deemed to be A Level will be banned from the league. This will be determined at any point during the season. Pitchers must pitch in games during 5 separate weeks in order to qualify to pitch in the playoffs. You must report to me who pitched every week. If you do not report weekly than that pitcher will not get credit for pitching and might not qualify for the playoffs.

11 – Pitchers Masks are strongly recommended – please make every attempt to protect yourself. Some of you have told me that your pitchers will not wear them – you as manager should make every attempt to make them wear one. If the slightest injury occurs to a pitcher – then we will have to make it mandatory at some point during the season.

12 – Regular Season Scheduling/Realignment & Playoffs. The playoffs will either start 1st or 2nd week in August – we need 3 weeks to complete playoffs – as of now playoffs to begin 8/4. The format will be decided after the 1st 9 weeks of the season after everyone plays each other once. Then we will do some sort of realignment for the remainder of the season and the playoffs. It could come down to 6 & 4, 4 & 6 or 8 & 2. It all depends on the level of play and competitiveness. We play best 2 of 3 all starting at 830am
