WE ARE...ABINGTON TOWNSHIP'S AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL PROGRAM. WE HAVE PREP ages 13-14 , JUNIOR ages 15-16 and SENIOR ages 16-19
Welcome to the website for the Roslyn Blue Hawks American Legion Baseball team. We are a summer league program for young men ages 16-19 that live in Abington Township, PA, in suburban Philadelphia. Our home field is Roslyn Park. The team competes in the highly competitive Lower Montco League consisting of eight teams from Bucks and Montgomery counties, including Jenkintown, Fort Washington, Horsham, Huntington Valley, the Morelanders, Mt. Airy, Roslyn, Southampton, and Warminster. Over the years our team has been comprised of the best and most dedicated ballplayers from Abington Township who have come to us from schools such as Abington, Bishop McDevitt, LaSalle, St. Joe's Prep, Roman Catholic, Chestnut Hill Academy, Archbishop Wood, and Germantown Academy. Tryouts and practices for the team begin in March, with games starting in May and lasting through mid to late July. Our schedule typically includes 21 league games (not including playoffs) and approximately 4-6 non-league games. American Legion Baseball Facts
American Legion Baseball is the oldest and largest nationwide teenage baseball program in America. Over 10,000,000 teenagers have played American Legion Baseball since its inception in 1925.
On average, 52 percent of Major League Baseball players played American Legion Baseball as teenagers. Nearly 80 percent of all college players played American Legion Baseball as teenagers.
Since 1926, Major League Baseball has honored the American Legion World Series Champions at the Major League World Series. The Commissioner's Office annually presents a plaque to the American Legion Champions on the field at the Major League World Series.
The American Legion National Headquarters spends approximately $1 million dollars annually to operate and host 64 teams that qualify for the National Tournament. Each year 1,280 players and coaches on 64 teams compete at eight Regional Tournaments.
The Regional Tournaments are double-elimination tournaments held over a five-day period in early August, and are composed of 64 teams representing the 50 state champions from across the U.S and 14 at-large teams. The eight Regional winners then advance to the double-elimination National American Legion World Series.
