The Downers Grove Cougars Wrestling Club is dissolving and ceasing operations. I want to thank all of the families, parents, coaches, alumni and wrestlers that have supported the club for the 28 years that I have been with the club and 24 years As the club leader. We have had many very accomplished wrestlers come out of the club as well as watched many boys mature and grow through the sport of wrestling. I have always said it is not about winning, it's about the journey to get there.
Sports is not just about winning and losing, it's about the bonds created between players and coaches and families, friendships that can span a lifetime. The friends you make in wrestling are friends you will have your whole life. This is certainly true in my case - from the dedicated officials, the committed coaches, supportive parents & families To the
awesome kids this sport is the best. The friends you make in wrestling are friends you will have your whole life. This is certainly true in my case.
The varsity high school head coaches have decided to form their own club and implement their vision of how a club should be run. Too many cooks in the kitchen spoil the brew. I don't know what their plans are regarding Sunday IKWF tournaments, after all, they are committed to their high school teams that compete on Fridays and Saturdays.
Alex and I plan on continuing to coach with the Lions Wrestling Club within the IKWF organization (www.ikwf.org). If anyone needs any additional information or we can help in any way, feel free to contact myself (630-881-5974) or Wendy (630-247-8380). We will continue to be at meets every Sunday and hope to see you soon.
