RIVER VALLEY LEAGUE - 2009 ALL LEAGUE TEAM .

Hitter of the Year: Matt Willis

Matt Willis (Barton College, NC) of the Waves was named 2009 Hitter of the River Valley League. Willis hit .387 (second in the league) with 41 hits (first in the league) in 106 at-bats. He led the league with 35 RBIs, 4 home runs, slugging percentage of (.604). His 64 total bases were 8 more than the second highest finisher. Willis was second in the league in on base percentage (.511), fourth in runs scored (32), fourth in stolen bases (18), and fourth in doubles (7). He also named Hitter of the Week back in Week 4 (July 8 – July 15). During this week Willis had a batting average of (.500), slugging percentage of (.833), on base percentage (.591), drove in five and scored nine.

Co-Pitcher of the Year: Nathan Hanson & Alex Kollack

Nathan Hanson (UW-Stout, WI) of the Fish Flies and Alex Kollack (Maryville University, MO) of the Fish Flies were named Co-Pitchers of the Year in the River Valley League for a 2009 campaign in which they both won six games. The dynamic duo were ranked 1st and 2nd in overall ERA Kollack (2.08) and Hanson (2.23), opposing batting average, Hanson (.199), Kollack (.203) and innings pitched, Hanson (48.1), Kollack (43.1). Hanson had seven starts on the season, completing three games, one shutout. Back in week 2 (June 24 – July 1) Hanson was honored with RVL Pitcher of the Week. The Fish Flies right hander had 2-games started, 14-innings pitched, 11-strike outs, and 1-win.

On Opening Day and again on July 26, the Final Day of the Season, Alex “The Big Train” Kollack out-dueled the Beavers starter Sean Rigney and the staff for a 5-0 win, in one of the season’s most thrilling games to secure the River Valley League Championship. Kollack didn’t allow any runs while striking out eleven over seven innings and flirted with a No-Hitter which he took through 20 of the 21 outs. Kollack led the Fish Flies 2009 Championship Team and was named tournament MVP.
