US Lacrosse Hall of Fame & Museum

If your family’s travels take you to the Baltimore/Washington, DC area at all this year, consider making a pit stop in Sparks, Maryland, and take in some fantastic lacrosse history while you are there.  Admission is free and generally open Monday – Friday, 9AM – 5PM and on days when games are being played at Tierney field (check their website for more info, www.uslacrosse.org/about-us-lacrosse/museum, or email jfinn@uslacrosse.org).  The museum is located on the 1st floor of the US Lacrosse Association’s office complex.  The complex itself is fun to see, as the William J. Tierney Field, named after a previous coach of Team USA, RIT, Johns Hopkins, Princeton and the current coach for Denver, is located just outside, and is the training home for the US National team program. The museum is the perfect size for a quick drop-in, or if you really want a feel for the history of the game, you can spend more time, and fully read each exhibit. Either way, you will not be disappointed.  The exhibits include historical displays chronicling the history of “the creator’s game”, the Tewaaraton Trophy, and the history of lacrosse in the Olympics.  Did you know that New Jersey’s own Lawrenceville Academy was one of the first 3 prep schools to establish lacrosse in 1882?
