LAA is a dedicated group of volunteers & supporters that manage athletic fields, organize youth team sports, and maximize athletic opportunities for youth in the LaVale area. Our group maintains facilities and schedules group usage of resources in four (4) recreation areas; Lions Field, Holly Ave Field (AKA Sheehan Field), Ort Field, and District Park (new to LAA in 2020). All areas are owned by Allegany County except Ort Field, which is leased annually from the Ort Family.

Resources at our recreation areas include athletic fields & baseball/softball diamonds (Lions, Holly, & Ort), basketball courts (Holly & District Park), tennis courts (Lions & DIstrict Park [lighted]), playgrounds (Holly & Lions), and a mountain bike course (currently under construction at District Park). All resources are open to the public. However, availability is subject to scheduled events by our youth programs and partnering athletic programs (see field calendars above).

LAA programs include baseball, girls' softball, and soccer.  Many additional teams and programs partner with LAA to use resources, including Allegany HS Softball, AVID Soccer Club, Braddock Middle School Softball, Cumberland Heat Softball, & JCP Soccer.  We are currently seeking partnerships with a mountain bike club and several tennis programs. 

LAA establishes use agreements with partnering organizations to secure facility space for each partner, to coordinate usage between users, to ensure equal fees for all users, and to communicate reponsibilities of all parties.

The LaVale community does not have a local tax base that could support youth athletics in LaVale. LaVale youth opportunities are based largely on player fees from our own programs and from our partners.  We also benefit greatly from the generosity of the community and from the time, talents, and resources of our volunteers.

LAA has proudly provided youth athletics for more than 45 years in partnership with community leaders like the the Ort Family, LaVale Volunteer Fire Department, LaVale Lions Club, LaVale Civic Improvement Association, Allegany County Board of Education, and the Allegany County Government.
