Varsity 2 - Harriton 0
October 22, 2009
On senior night at Prevost field, the varsity soccer team defeated an overmatched Harriton squad by the score of 2 - 0.  Radnor dominated play all night controlling the ball in both ends of the field.  Radnor seemed to win pretty much every 50/50 ball with rock solid play by all of the seniors.  This was Zach Greenberg, Robbie Sachs, Jordan Berstein, Kyle Farook, Joe Gangl, Nick Mathison, Harry Lawrence, Jackson Flail, Young-Sang Lee and Ryan Devine's last regular season home game.

The defense was stellar with Zach, Robbie and Jordan seemingly in every play.  Joe Gangl opened the scoring midway in the first half with an amazing shot from 30 yards out that was a frozen rope to the top right hand corner.   Radnor had several other good chances but could not put any further shots into the net in the first half.

The second half was also controlled by Radnor but the team just could not put Harriton away until late in the second half when Jordan launched a throw in right into the box that was deflected by Jeff Puckette into the net.  That goal was a nice way to end the game.  All of the seniors contributed to the win with Ryan getting the shut out.  Radnor now waits to hear if they will qualify for the playoffs or if this was the last game of the season.

Radnor JV 2 - Harriton 1
October 22, 2009
The JVs ended their season on a high note with a win against league opponent Harriton yesterday afternoon. On what Coach Jared titles “Junior Day”, the guys came back from an early one goal deficit. The JVs first goal came about 20 minutes into the first half. Pete Jacome blasted a shot that rebounded off of the opposing goalie to the waiting foot of; you guessed it, Alec Fischman who seems to always be in the right spot at the right time. Way to go FISH!! Although the JVs dominated play throughout they were unable to tally another goal until junior, Malcolm Seo buried a loose ball that ricocheted off of several players before finding Malcolm's foot. Way to finish MALCOLM!! This win came without our regular goalie, who unfortunately was ill. Dalton Morris filled in nicely on short notice to preserve the victory for the JVs. Congratulations on a great season!!!! The JVs should be very proud of their hard work and effort put forth all season long as well as their 9-4-5 record. Coach Jared thanks all of you (and your parents) for being so committed and looks forward to seeing you ALL at the banquet!!!

Radnor JV 0 - Springfield 0
October 20, 2009
The JVs tied a beatable Springfield squad Tuesday afternoon at home.  After several very well played contests, the JVs didn’t have their “A” game on in the 0 - 0 contest. The JVs started off well, dominated the game and possessed the ball for most of the match. It looked like the JVs would start the scoring early when Alec Fischman hit the crossbar and Dalton Morris hit a quality shot that was saved by the opposing keeper both within the first 15 minutes of the game.  Scoring goals, however, would not take place on this fine, fall day.

Although the JVs battled all game, they were unable to get one past either of two opposing goalies who do deserve credit for making the saves.  In this scoreless contest, the guys defended well and Declan Carbery played a good game in goal recording his second straight shut-out. Please come out and cheer on the boys in their last game of the season Thursday afternoon against Harriton
.

Varsity 1 - Neshaminy 1
October 17, 2009  very exciting game....0-0 at half, neshaminy scored about 10 minutes into the second half.  we tied it up on a goal by mike superdock with 40 seconds left to play and then totally dominated the overtimes where Zach Greenberg hit the post once and the Raiders had numerous other chances

Radnor JV 1 - Neshaminy 0
October 17, 2009
The JVs outlasted a tough Neshaminy squad on a chilly Saturday evening.  The JVs finally got their chance to play in front of a home crowd on the "turf" and they made sure not to disappoint.  In what was a tightly fought contest, the Red Raiders played as they have been in their past few matches; VERY WELL.  About midway through the first half the JVs struck on restart from about midfield.  Alex Hayes, who played solidly in the back all game, hit a free kick from about 55 yards out.  The midfielders and forwards organized well to attack the ball as it was struck and Tyler Helms was able to get a touch and knock it past a helpless Neshaminy goaltender to give the JVs a 1-0.  The lead would remain 1-0 at halftime and at the end of the game as well.  Along with Hayes, backs Kumar B. and Jon A. made it tough for the opposition to advance successfully all match long.  Sophmore goalie Declan Carbery was tremendous for the JVs, preserving a well deserved shut-out.  WAY TO GO BOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Strath Haven 1 - Varsity 0
October 13, 2009
The Radnor Raiders went on the road Tuesday Night Oct. 13th to play one of the top rated teams in Southeast Pennsylvania on "Senior Night". Strath Haven was unbeaten since their first game end of August and had wins against Lower Merion and Conestoga with already 36 goals scored this season.
On a cold, windy night, Strath Haven controlled most of the first half action with repeated shots on goal possessing the ball in the Radnor end most of the half.  The only reason Radnor remained in the game was the strong play by the defense (Robbie Sacks, Zach Greenberg, Jordan Berstein and Charlie Rubin) and excellent midfield play by Peter Donato, Mike Superdock and Nick Mathison. Goalie Ryan Devine made several diving stops and other great saves.  Late in the first half, Strath Haven broke through on a nice shot for what would turn out to be the only goal of the game.

The second half was played for the most part with Strath Haven on defense.  Radnor had a few scoring chances with the best one being a great turn by Joe Gangl in the box that was only saved by great positioning by the goalie.  Joe seemed to be tightly marked but quickly turned the ball right on goal.  The goalie only saw the ball at the last second and it bounced away before any Radnor player could finish.  The outcome of this game was truly not decided until the last second ticked off the clock.  Another close loss for the varsity in a year of close losses.

Radnor JV 3 - Strath Haven 3
October 13, 2009

The JVs had a solid performance against rival Strath Haven on Tuesday afternoon. After a week long lay-off between games the JVs started off slow. Strath Haven started the scoring about half way through the first half and led at halftime 1-0. SH widened their lead to 2-0 with a goal early in the second half. Finally, down two goals, the JVs awoke! After an aggressive run down the left side of the field that resulted in a cross and a shot, Malcolm Seo brought the JVs within one after he blasted home a rebound past the opposing goaltender. Malcolm’s goal changed the momentum in favor of the Red Raiders. Just minutes later, Jarrett Banks collected a loose ball, spun, and drove the ball off of the post and into the back of the net tying the game at twos. Not to be outdone, Brad Cutler gave the JVs the lead just moments later with a shot to the left side of the goal that made its way past an unsteady goalkeeper and tickled the ole’ onion bag yet again. The JVs did a great job of staying positive and not giving up. They were able to score three straight goals after being down by two. Way to go GUYS!!!!!!!! Strath Haven was able tie the game at three’s with about 10 minutes left to play. The JVs had a few more VERY good chances late in the game but were unable to net their fourth goal of the goal. Well played game gentlemen, keep up the good work!!

Varsity 2 - Haverford 1 OT
October 6, 2009
On a very narrow, bumpy field behind an elementary school, the Varsity overcame some significant adversity and beat Haverford 2 - 1 in OT.  After a scoreless first half, it looked really bleak when Haverford scored on a long shot that went over the head of Radnor goalie Ryan Devine with time running out in the second half.

But the Varsity stayed aggressive and only a few minutes later, Joe Gangl turned the momentum around 180 degrees when he blasted the ball from about 35 yards out that beat the goalie cleanly.  Joe's shot was reminiscent of David Beckham in that it seemed to be too high to score only to dip at the end, perfectly dropping under the crossbar.

What a turnaround!  That amazing play took the game into overtime.  Radnor came out buzzing in the overtime and only a few minutes into the extra period, Radnor gained a free kick to the left of the box about 25 yards from goal.  It was Joe again as he exploited a hole in the wall that formed after Conor Osborne ran over the ball and stuck the winning shot past the wall into the short side of the goal.  Radnor wins!  This will be a nice memory for the boys this season.

Radnor JV 2 - Haverford 1
October 6, 2009

The JVs won their second straight game on the road against Haverford H.S.  About fifteen minutes into the game Peter Jacome made an aggressive run towards the Haverford goal. Jacome hit a solid shot at the goalkeeper, the rebound was knocked into the goal by a patiently waiting Alec Fischman. Just a few minutes later, deep in our offensive third, Fischman one-touched a high lofted through ball past the oncoming goalie to give the JV Red Raiders a 2-0 lead.  Fischman and the rest of the JVs dominated the match and made it tough for the opposition all game long.  The 2-0 lead lasted until the last minute of play when Haverford took advantage of a free kick in the dark to make it a final score of 2-1. Way to go boys!!!

Varsity 0 - Downingtown West 3
October 2, 2009
Varsity lost to Downingtown West 3 - 0 on Friday afternoon at Downingtown.  The first half ended scoreless with neither team being able to mount much of a challenge.  The play remained mostly in midfield or on the sidelines.

Downingtown opened the scoring about 15 minutes into the second half when they counter-attacked quickly after a Radnor free kick.  Radnor had most of their players in front of the ball since it was a nice chance about 40 yards out.  Unfortunately, the free kick was quickly cleared starting a 4 on 2 break for Downingtown.  The 2 Radnor players back could not slow down the ball and Downingtown scored on a point blank shot.

A penalty shot and late goal made it 3 - 0 against and a tough loss for the varsity.  Pretty much the only bright spot was an amazing save by Kyle Furtaw stopping a shot at point blank range when the game was still in doubt.

Radnor JV 3 - Downingtown West 2
October 2, 2009
The JVs put forth their best effort of the season Friday afternoon at Downingtown West. The Red Raiders started off the scoring in the first half.  Eric Shea caught, I mean, flicked the ball on to Tyler Helms who banged it in passed the opposing goaltender. About ten minutes later West scored to make it a 1-1 game. The JVs played a tough game throughout while able to still play quality soccer. The central midfielders: Tyler Helms, Eric Shea, Brad Cutler, Matt WIseman, and Malcolm Seo dominated play for much of the contest. Back to the scoring. Late in the first half Alex "VERY-NICE" Hayes blasted a free kick into the back of the net to give the JVs a 2-1 lead at halftime.  Early in the second half, Dtown tied the game at 2-2.  The game would stay knotted at 2's for most of the second half. With about 12 minutes remaining in the game, Malcolm Seo flicked a header onto Alec Fischman who put the biscuit in the basket scoring the game winner in a timely and heroic fashion. Way to finish FISCHMAN!!!  In goal for the JVs, Declan Carbery made several saves to preserve this huge win.  This was a terrific performance by the JVs considering the fact the just one day prior they were beaten by rival Conestoga. It takes a lot of heart and determination to bounce back just one day after such a tough loss.  Beating Downingtown West, at any level, is just about as good as it gets!!!! The boys should be very proud of themselves for their effort!!!! WAY TO GO!!!! Hopefully this will springboard us to many more wins!!!

Varsity 0 - Conestoga 2
October 1, 2009
Radnor's troubles with restarts continued with Conestoga scoring on consecutive corner kicks late in the first period to win 2 - 0.  The two goals came from Radnor not being able to clear the ball away prior to Conestoga players putting the ball into the net from point blank range.

Conestoga controlled the ball for much of the first 15 minutes of the game with their possession style of play but Radnor's defense stiffened up when it mattered as the ball moved into their defensive third.  The remainder of the first half was pretty even with Radnor getting a few chances and giving up the two goals on corner kicks.

The second half again was even with Radnor getting several good chances and playing an overall quality game.  Unfortunately, that was not enough to put any goals on the board.  Radnor was supported by a good crowd at Prevost field on a chilly but pleasant evening.

Radnor JV 0 - Conestoga 2
October 1, 2009
The JVs lost a tough one to rival Conestoga on Thursday afternoon.  Stoga dominated much of the first half of play and lead at half time 2-0.  The second half was a much different story.  The JV Red Raiders were able to flip the game around.  We dominated play in the second half and made the opposing goalie work hard as well as make several very good saves.  Although the result was not what we were hoping for, the JVs played a terrific second half and made the adjustments necessary to give Stoga all they could handle.  With only 2 available subs by the end of the game, the boys should be very proud of their efforts!!!  Way to go guys!!!

Varsity 6 - Ridley 1
September 29, 2009
Radnor toppled an overmatched Ridley squad 6 - 1 on a beautiful night at Ridley.  Radnor dominated play throughout with their many chances in the first half only netting a single goal by Joe Gangl due to amazing play by the Ridley goalie.  However, a series of breakaways by the Radnor forwards and middies once they figured out the Ridley offside trap led to 5 second half goals.  Conor Osborne scored twice, Joe Gangl ended up with 3 and Kyle Farook also scored.  Joe's last goal came on a rebound after Eric Erkis beat the goalie only to see his shot hit the near post bouncing directly to Joe in front of the net.

The only Ridley goal came on a questionable call in the box led to a penalty kick in the closing minutes.  All-in-all, a fine effort by the Raiders.

Radnor JV 8 - Ridley 0
September 29, 2009
The JVs needed a confidence builder and they got one against Ridley.  Brad Cutler, Malcolm Seo, Alec Fischman and Tyler Helms all scored once.  Eric Shea scored the first two goals of the game and Shane Hickey also scored twice in this lopsided contest.  Goalie Declan Carbery was virtually untested in the shut-out.  Let's hope we can find the back of the net again against rival Stoga on Thursday.

Radnor JV 1 - The Shipley School 2
September 26, 2009
The JVs lost their second straight game Saturday morning against Shipley.  The JVs found themselves down 2-0 after the first half.  The second half went by rather quickly as the boys seemed still to be a little sleepy.  Although the JVs didn't play badly, they were unable to find the back of the net until late in the game.  So late, that it couldn't have been any later!!  In the 72nd minute (last) the guys seemingly woke up.  After a combination of passes in our offensive third, Freshman Tyler Helms hit Junior Eric Shea who two touched the ball past the Shipley defender and blasted one past the goalie.  It makes one wonder.  If it was so easy to score in the 72nd minute, why couldn't we have done it in the previous 71 minutes??  Hopefully, we are AWAKE on Tuesday against league opponent Ridley.

Shipley 2 - Varsity 1
September 26, 2009

Radnor lost to a very good Shipley Gators team 2 - 1 in a Saturday afternoon match.  Shipley opened the scoring about midway through the first half with a goal after a free kick.  Radnor get some momentum back on a beautiful free kick by Charlie Rubin that Kevin Hartnett flicked past the Shipley keeper to tie the score.

In the second half, Radnor came out strong but another restart proved its undoing when a free kick from outside the box on the left side was headed home cleanly by a Shipley player.  Radnor worked very hard to get their scoring chances.  A great chance came when Joe Gangl's sharp angle shot was stopped by the Shipley keeper late in the game.  The defense was strong with Zach Greenberg having a stand out game at sweeper.

Radnor JV 0 - Upper Darby 2
September 24, 2009
The JVs were unable to find the back of the net in a closely played 2-0 loss to Upper Darby.  Although the result was not what we were hoping for the guys played hard and gave it their all.  Way to go guys!!  Juniors Malcolm Seo, Brad Cutler and Can Alpbek all put forth terrific efforts for the Red Raiders.  Come support the guys on Saturday morning against The Shipley School.  (Please note the game is not at the school!  Click on the "Venue" in the Game Schedule section or "Direction to Pitches"  tab to find field.)

Varsity 0 - Upper Darby 1
September 24, 2009
The high scoring Upper Darby Royals took on our Radnor Raiders Thursday night.  Darby had scored twenty goals in their previous seven games.  However, the Radnor defense of Robbie Sacks and Charlie Rubin shut down the sidelines and Harry Lawrence plugged the middle as stopper.  The game appeared headed toward a 0-0 tie when Darby scored with less than 15 minutes left in the game.  Radnor mounted several attempts at scoring with time running out but lost a well played game to Darby 1 - 0.

Varsity 4 - Garnett Valley 1
September 22, 2009
The weather could not have been better as the Raiders took the field at Garnett Valley last night.  Harry Lawrence set the tone early in the first half with a low screamer to the net.  Kyle Furtaw's nice save allowed the team to remain one up at the end of the first half.  A team effort resulted in Chris Martin and Kevin Hartnett each racking up a goal.  Carter Furtaw crossed to Nick Mathison and on to Jackson Flail, who wasted no time in putting it in.  GV got on the board late in the game, but the damage was done.  Great work, Gentlemen...now it's on to Upper Darby at homeThursday night.

Radnor JV 1 - Garnett Valley 0
September 22, 2009
The JVs put forth another solid effort against a physical Garnett Valley squad.  Early in the second half, after a long throw in by Jake Camp, Shane Hickey took the ball off of the bounce and slammed it into the back of the net.  Not only was this Shane's first goal of the season, it also came against his old school --- Way to go Shane!!  Defensively Alex Hayes, Hoon Jeon, Kumar B. and Malcolm Seo played well to help Declan Carberry earn his first complete game shutout of the season.  Come support the guys Thursday after school on Rowland Field as we take on league rival Upper Darby.

Radnor JV 0 - LM 0
September 16, 2009
The JVs played their best game of the season against rival LM.  Although Radnor dominated play most of the game, they were unable to put one in the back of the net,  Defensively, Alex Hayes proved to be a force in aiding goalies Declan Carbery and Wesley Dickson for the shut-out.  The JVs had several "almost" goals in both the first and second halves.  The guys should be proud of their efforts and hustle throughout a tough, physical game.

Varsity 0 - Lower Merion 2
September 16, 2009
Lower Merion came to Prevost field undefeated and ranked # 2 in the most recent Southeastern PA soccer poll and defeated the Radnor Varsity 2 - 0.  Radnor very much held its own in a very physical and fast paced game.  The Aces scored off of a rebound of the post late in the first half and on a breakdown in the second where a bunch of Radnor players went for a ball in the box only to see it go over their heads directly to an unmarked LM player who headed it past the Radnor keeper.

This was a game that went back and forth with Radnor having several chances in the LM end of the field.  However, they could just not get any space from a very quick and aggressive LM team.  Joe Gangl made a nice run in the second half through 3 LM players but his shot ended up wide.  The second half was filled with yellow cards (whether they were deserved or not), by referees looking to get control of the game as the physicality and intensity increased.

Several of the new varsity players were sporting sleek new haircuts - which can be seen in the photo album section if you are interested.

Varsity 2 - Marple Newtown 1 2OT
September 14, 2009
Jordan Berstein scored a dramatic goal in the last minute of the final sudden death overtime for the Radnor Varsity's first win of the season.  The play started with Conor Osborne hustling to reach a ball on the left sideline.  He then served a very dangerous cross into the box where it somehow made it through a gathering of players in front of the goal directly to Jordan.  Jordan left nothing to doubt when he rocketed the ball into the back of the net for the game-winner from about 10 yards out.

Radnor scored early in the first half on Mike Superdock's second goal of the season.  Momentum shifted several times in the first half with Radnor dominating early and then Marple controlling much of the play at times.  Marple scored about 5 minutes into the second half where their player made a nice turn at the top of the box and put the ball past a diving Ryan Devine who had no chance on the shot.  Marple had several chances towards the end of the second half but Radnor's defense and Ryan held true.  Charlie Rubin had a strong game on the left back turning away several dangerous runs by the speedy Marple attack.

In the second half, the team unfortunately lost Mike Superdock to an injury where he bumped heads with another player clearing a ball away.  It was a big loss but Zack Greenberg and Peter Donato stepped up and played solidly in the middle. The overtimes were very exciting with chances on both sides until the game ended on Jordan's game winner.

Radnor JV 1 - Marple Newtown 0
September 14, 2009
The JVs got back into the winning column Monday night at Marple-Newtown H S.  After a game with 15 shots on goal and no goals, th JVs scored on their first shot of the game and made it last.  Half way through the first half, Alec Fishman scored what was the eventual game winner on a well hit, well placed shot.  Way to go FISH!!!  In goal, Wesley Dickson was solid and had his first complete game shutout of the season.  Hopefully, the JVs can make it back to back wins with a victory Wednesday against rival LM.

Varsity 0 - Downingtown East 1
September 12, 2009
The Raiders started out strong but once again the ball could not find the back of the net.  The chances were there but it was not to be.  The defense, anchored by a gutsy, gritty performance from Robbie Sacks, played a very strong game limiting Downingtown to an offense of corner kicks which led to the only goal of the game.  Next up Marple Newtown on Sept. 14th.

Varsity 0 - Penncrest 1
September 10, 2009
The Raiders had their chances and played tough but came away with a disappointing loss.

No biscuit for JV
September 10, 2009
The JVs lost their first game of the season at home yesterday vs. the Penncrest squad. All things seemed to be going Radnors’ way except for being able to put the biscuit in the basket.  Dalton Morris hit a volley off the post in the first 2 minutes of the game which had the team feeling as though this game would result in a victory.  Although the guys dominated much of the play, Penncrest was able to score on one of the very few chances they had. Unfortunately, that’s why you play the game!!! The JVs look to get back on the winning side of things Saturday against Downington East.

It's a Tie: Doc 1 - Dock 1
September 8, 2009
Michael Superdock scored on a header in the game's first 5 minutes and Radnor held on for the 1 - 1 tie against Christopher Dock. This goal was Michael's first as a varsity player and was the first of the season for the team.  Christopher Dock pushed hard for most of the second half and scored the equalizer near the end regular time after many close chances.

Neither team could break through during the two-10 minute sudden death overtimes with Christopher Dock carrying most of the play.  Harry Lawrence had a nice game at center back marking the tough Christopher Dock forwards.

Radnor JV 2 - C. Dock 0
September 8, 2009
The JVs are off to a solid start to the 2009 season.  In a closely contested first half neither side was able to find the back of the net.  The second half proved to be a better one for the Raiders.  Radnor's first goal was set up by Peter Jacome whose shot rebounded in front of the goal where Eric Shea stood and was able to tally his first goal of the season.  Later in the half, Matt Wiseman scored on a PK to put the JVs up for good by two goals.  Hopefully the winning streak continues against league rival Penncrest.

Henderson Heartbreak
September 5, 2009
In the 3rd place game at the Henderson tournament, Radnor lost 1 - 0 in a penalty kick shootout 4 - 3.  Neither team could score in regulation or in 2, 10 minute "sudden victory" overtimes.

Radnor's best chance came in the second half when Peter Donato's blast from outside the box was punched wide on a brilliant diving save by the Henderson goalie.  Later, Dean Dersimionian almost ended it all on a breakaway in the second overtime but his shot sailed just wide.

Radnor would not have even gotten this far if it was not for several excellent saves by Ryan Devine in the first half including stopping a penalty kick that was headed for the left corner of the net.  He also soared high to bring down several balls ending other first half Henderson threats. See the photo album tab for more photos.
