American Legion Baseball is the oldest and largest nationwide teenage baseball program in America. American Legion Baseball became a national program in 1925. Over ten million teenagers have played American Legion Baseball since 1925. The first National Championship tournament was held in 1926. 

On an average, 52 percent of Major League Baseball players played American Legion Baseball as teenagers. Nearly 70 percent of all college players played American Legion Baseball as teenagers

Gurnee Post 771 has sponsored a Legion baseball team for over 30+ years. As a post of military veterans, we feel baseball is a game that builds character. Known as America’s game, baseball bring out the best of us. America’s past time will continue to bring out the best in you.

The Riverdogs draw players our our base school, Warren Twp. High School. We also recruit players from Carmel Catholic if they live in the Warren school district. Warren players can only play with the Gurnee Riverdogs team since Warren is the base school unless they are not selected for the team.

Senior American Legion Baseball competition in 2022 is open only to players born in 2003 or later. 

3.102   Students may participate in a tryout for a non-school athletic team while a member of a high school team in the same sport, provided the tryout is exclusively a demonstration of skills with no practice or instruction involved.  A student shall be considered to be a member of a school team when he/she engages in any team activity, including but not limited to tryouts, drills, physical practice sessions, team meetings, playing in a contest, etc., on or after the date specified in By-law 5.000 and its sub-sections.
