Bombers win 3rd Championship!

https://i.imgur.io/Vlpjfa7_d.webp?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium

The Championship started on a rainy Thursday night at Shuttleworth in Amsterdam, in a game where Bombers would start the efficient Jon Mueller, while the Ducks started ace pitcher Spencer Brown. The rain may have affected Mueller as the Ducks jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead. After the first inning Mueller settled in and ended up only allowing 1 additional run through 6 innings. On the other side, Spencer was dealing, the hot bombers lineup was cooled off as he had a no-hitter going into the 6th inning. In the bottom of the 6th down 4-0, the Bombers finally showed some life after a lead off single by Aaron Delano and a hit and run by Zach Agan, another bomber was hit by a pitch so bases were loaded for Greg Jette. In true clutch Jette fashion, he came through with a huge bases clearing 3 RBI double just out of the reach of Ducks CF Antony Mantova, which would make the score 4-3. The very next batter Will Gorman then hit a triple to make it 4-4 and ended up scoring himself to make it 5-4 Bombers. In the top of the 7th, Ducks scrapped together 2 runs with some key hits by Bob Murphy and Brandon Baumann. The Ducks were now up 6-5. In the bottom of the 7th, Rick DiJohn led off with a single just out of the reach out a diving Ducks 2B Steve Martino. Bombers would end up scoring to tie it on an error, and tied 6-6 another clutch playoff player and former playoff MVP Zach Agan was up with a guy on 3rd with 1 out. Agan hit it hard and once again just out of the reach of the Ducks 2B, so Bombers won with a walk-off in a wild finish, final score 7-6.

The winner of the wild first game (though could have gone either way) set the tone for the rest of the series. Ducks would send another stud pitcher Dino Ferrarese to the mound to face off again game 1's walk-off winner's brother, Eric Agan. Dino and Spencer all regular season both allowed 3 runs all year, and all 3 weren't even earned runs. Bombers would once again have to battle against great pitching, and they were up to the challenge. Bombers ended up winning 6-3 on yet another rainy day, with a 3 hit day by Aaron Delano and even contribution through out the lineup. Eric Agan for the Bombers was on, and despite the defense not having their A game Eric carried the Bombers to a win with great pitching.

Game 3 Bombers we're still riding the momentum from the improbable comeback in game 1, and Ducks would go to long time team member and great pitcher Dan Jones. With Patrick McGuire suffering a dislocated pinky in the previous Expos series, Bombers would turn to long time player and underused pitcher Nigel Gorman. Nigel always does well when called upon, and game 3 was no different. Bombers jumped on Dan Jones and put up 4 in the first. Jones would settle down the rest of the game, but Bombers chipped away with a few key hits late in the game, including 2 hits each by red hot Aaron Delano and Greg Jette, and 3 hits by Dan McGuire. Nigel was effective, throwing a complete game, and Bombers would win game three 8-2 and take down the championship!

While many Bombers contributed in their playoff run, playoff MVP honors goes to Greg Jette, for numerous clutch hits (including the previously mentioned 3 RBI double down 4-0 in the 6th) and game changing great catches in the OF (including a huge diving catch in top of the 7th of the same game 1 where he had the double). Jette finished 7-18 with 6 runs and 7 RBIs. Honorable mention goes to Aaron Delano, who was 10-21 with 5 runs and 3 RBIs, and also great defense in the outfield! Every Bombers player contributed to wins all year, it was truly a team effort. Bombers never give up attitude paid off to start off the championship, with other numerous comebacks throughout the year also including game 1 of the expos second round series down 6-5 in the 7th just like game 1 of the ducks series, also prevailing with a 7-6 win. Thanks again to all the teams going all out this year, it was a well balanced and very competitive year where the top 5 teams were very close in standings and any of the 8 teams could win on any given day. Thanks again to all the mangers, players and everyone who makes the league what it is!

CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW

For the 3rd time in 4 years, the #1 seed Bombers will face off against the #3 seed Ducks in championship. The Bombers won the first two matchups, and last year after Bombers got knocked out 2nd round by the Albany Angels, Ducks won their first championship, now looking to win 2 in a row. But this matchup will be much different than the first two. While Ducks still have veterans like Dan Jones, Bob Murphy, Brian Hoffman, and Joe Campbell, after a few of their older players retired they revamped the team with many good younger Colonie based players, including Steve Martino, Colin Allen, Brandon Baumann and also stud pitcher Dino Ferrarese. And they still have last year's MVP Anthony Mantova, Cy Young candidate Spencer Brown and all-star SS Cam Myers. The young "baby" Ducks team led by Jim Bonaparte is revitalized and looking to take down a 2nd championship.

Bombers also had to get younger as most of their former Mets players went up to the 33 division last year. While Bombers maintained their core of younger players like Dan & Pat McGuire, Zach & Eric Agan, Kyle Tedford, John Badalucco and Henry Flint, and their veteran players Will & Nigel Gorman, Josh Wolin, Kevin Hearley and only Mets holdover former MVP and this year MVP candidate Greg Jette, Bombers also had a youth movement and added players like Aaron Delano, John Clayton, Micheal Jurgelon and Chancellor "Chewy" Stubblebine. Bombers also brought the versatile Jon Mueller back into the mix, who has been a key part of the Bombers success this year. Bombers are led by Rick DiJohn and are looking for their 3rd championship. It should be a great series, we encourage everyone to come out to shuttleworth to watch some great baseball!

Ducks win first title!

Finals mainstay Ducks have won their 1st championship! They have made the championship 6 of the last 7 years, and have broken through to get their first one. After going to a game 5 in the second round vs the Expos and winning by a single run, Ducks came out swinging game 1. In the first game of the series, Matt Simoni would take over. Simoni would pitch a complete game, and not only that, would have a walk off hit to give himself and the Ducks the big first game win. Game 2, Ducks would keep that momentum going and went off on the Angels, putting up 20 while Zach Eldred shut the Angels offense down. Antony Montova on the ducks, who is a huge favorite to win MVP of the regular season, solidified his playoff MVP run by hitting a gram slam. Montova would put up numbers every game, hitting lasers throughout the regular season and playoffs. He would carry this over to game 3, where he would add on a triple and double. Montova was a force in the playoffs, and easily won playoff MVP for the Ducks. Casey Schoonmaker also came up huge all playoffs, adding a ton of hits and a few HRs as well. Ducks would go onto win game 3 8-5 (holding off a late angels ally where Patrick Guiry hit a 3-run HR to shorten the gap). In the end, the Ducks played very good baseball all around, earning their first championship! Congrats to the Ducks and manager Jim Bonaparte, who now has at least 1 title in every division (18+, 33+, 45+ and 55+), the only player/manager to ever accomplish this feat.

Glenville Bombers win second championship!

The Glenville Bombers have defeated the Ducks 3 games to 1 to win their second championship (and second in a row). This was a rematch from the 2020 championship, which went the full 5 games in the best of 5 series. This year, the series would only end up going 4 games.

Game 1

In Game 1, the # 3 seed Bombers would start Sean Conroy, while the #1 seed Ducks would start Leo Primeau. The Bombers jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning. Greg Jette crushed a bases load double bringing in 3 runs. Zach Agan would add a 2 RBI hit. Matt Simoni would come in for the Ducks and would only give up 1 run the rest of the game. The Ducks started to chip away and were putting together a come back later in the game, and Patrick McGuire came in for relief for the Bombers. Patrick was able to get a key double-play, and would go on to close out the game and get the save. The Bombers held on to win 7-4.

Game 2

In Game 2 the Ducks would look to bounce back and started John Mancini while the Bombers turned to Brian Conroy, who had no-hit the Ducks regular season in a 2-0 win (which was one of only two regular season losses for the Ducks). Brian was just as effective as he was that day, and this time he would 3-hit the Ducks. Mancini was also very effective, only allowing 1 run on a passed ball when Justin Pangburn scored, after he lead off the inning with a double. Game 2 was filled with great pitching, and exceptional defense, where players on both sides kept making web gems to keep the game close. Patrick McGuire made an impossible catch late in the game to keep it a 1-0 game, which the Ducks OF made numerous diving catches to keep them in it. John Ripepi also made a full extension diving catch on a line drive to prevent a run from scoring. The game would end 1-0, in a game where the pitching and D were dominant on both sides.

Game 3

The Ducks offense would finally break out in Game 3, where they would jump out to an early lead against Bombers rookie pitcher Patrick McGuire. Casey Schoonmaker blasted a 2-run HR in the first inning, setting the tone for the game. Ducks rookie pitcher Zach Eldred would shut out the Bombers the rest of the way. Andrew Wildrick threw the rest of the way for the Bombers, allowing only 2 runs. But the damage was already done, and the Bombers offense could not get anything going, the final would be 7-0 Ducks. John Ripepi had a double and single, and winning pitcher Zach Eldred helped himself with two doubles.

Game 4

Bombers looked to get back on track and sent game 1 winner Sean Conroy back to the hill for Game 4, and Ducks would turn to leading Cy Young favorite Dan Jones to keep the series going. The Bombers got to Jones early, with numerous hits in the first inning including a Zach Agan blast off the top of the wall. Bombers would add a few more runs late, and Justin Pangburn finished the day with 3 hits, 3 runs and 4 SBs, which was a huge factor in the Bombers victory. Bombers ended up winning game 4 6-3, and won their second championship in a row! For the Ducks John Ripepi ended up with 2 doubles, while Casey Schoonmaker had a double and a single. Sean Conroy continued his tradition of being an incredible post-season pitcher, in 2020 he pitched in games 3,4 and 5 of the championship to lock down the Bombers first championship for the Bombers. This year, he pitched in games 1 and 4, getting the wins in both games. While Sean was championship MVP last year for his performance, and this year almost matched that, the clear cut MVP was bombers third baseman Zach Agan, who went on a tear in the playoffs, going 10-14 with 3 doubles and 5 RBIs. Agan was 8-12 vs the Ducks in the championship. Zach was as hot as any player has ever been in the playoffs and championship, and led the Bombers to their second trophy! He also was phenomenal on defense all year and especially in the playoffs.

Thanks to all the teams in 2021 who made it a great and competitive year. To close out the 2021 CDMABL 18+ season, there will be an all star game this Sunday, Aug 22 - 3pm Bob Moore (1pm HR derby, $10 buy in, half to the league, half to the winner, any player in the league can participate). Glenville Bombers win 1st Championship in franchise history!

The Glenville Bombers have won the 2020 18 Division Championship, first time in franchise history, which has been over a decade. The Bombers would eventually defeat the Ducks 3 games to 2 in a very even and tight matchup where a number of games could have went either way, including game 5.

Game 1 Ducks would send Zach Breen to the mound vs Brian Conroy of the Bombers. Bombers depleted most of their pitching staff during the semis vs the Expos, and would go to their #3 starter vs the ducks #1. Both pitchers were dealing this night. Ducks jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first as Steve Mohr hit in Casey Schoonmaker to take a 1-0 lead. After this Brian Conroy would shut the Ducks down for the next 6 innings. Bombers would eventually tie the game in the 3rd as Justin Pangburn would single in Fausto Franco to tie the game 1-1. No team would score until extra innings, in the top of the 8th Conroy finally tired and put a few guys on and Ripepi doubled one in. Andrew Wildrick would come into pitch and gave up a 2 RBI single to Casey Schoonmaker as the infield was playing in for insurance. Breen would then finish off the Bombers and Ducks would take game one 4-1 in 8 innings.

Game 2 Bombers would then go to Joe Slater, who also pitched vs the Expos when the Bombers lost the first game. Slater would once again come up big in the playoffs, shutting out the Ducks, and also getting out of a 1 out bases loaded jam in the 6th inning. Bombers would go up 1-0 in the 6th after Dan McGuire scored from 3rd on a passed ball. In the top of the 7th league MVP candidate Rudy Fallas would have yet another big RBI and add in insurance run for the Bombers. Slater would go on to finish the Ducks and throw a complete game shutout.

Game 3 Ducks would respond with John Mancini throwing, and Bombers would send Sean Conroy to the hill, who in his last outing threw a no-hitter against the Expos in heated game 3 deciding game in the semi finals. Ducks would take a 1-0 lead in the 3rd as red hot John Ripepi would come up with another huge playoff hit, driving in Campbell. The rain would then come and suspend the game until the next day, where Mancini came back out the next day to shut the Bombers down. Bombers would have Slater finish up game 3, only giving up a run on a Luke Mancini triple, who then scored on a Ripepi sac fly. Just like the final game 2 score, it was 2-0 but in the Ducks favor this time.

Game 4 would be a rematch of game 1 starters Zach Breen and Brian Conroy. Both pitching on short rest were gamers, but didn’t have it like they did game 1. Joe Slater drove in the Bombers first three runs in his first 2 ABs, while the Ducks Ripepi scored 2 runs, including one driven in by Steve Mohr. Top of the 6th tied 3-3, Ducks had 2 outs with Luke Delano for the Bombers on 2nd. Zach Agan was up and would fight off some tough pitches by Breen to eventually single in Delano for a clutch two out RBI hit to put the Bombers up 4-3. Bombers would then get 4 more insurance runs with hits by Dan McGuire, a triple by Greg Jette, a double by Brian Conroy and a RBI single by Josh Wolin. Bombers would end up winning 8-3 with Sean Conroy relieving his brother to finish off the game.

Game 5 it all came down to a winner take all game for the championship, and Bombers and Ducks would send out Slater and Mancini again, both on short rest, both have pitched twice already in the series. The Bombers opened up a lead with a 2 run HR by catcher Dan Maynard. Ducks would respond in the 3rd and get 3 runs started off by consecutive hits from Ripepi, Schoonmaker and Mohr. In a back and forth game Bombers in the next inning would put up 3 runs themselves with a 2 RBI hit by Slater and RBI double by Zach Agan, both players coming up clutch again like in game 4. With the lead Bombers would bring in pitcher Andrew Wildrick where consecutive doubles by Ripepi and Schoonmaker would lead to 2 runs to tie the game at 5-5. In the bottom of the 4th the Bombers would put up one more run after 2 errors in a row by the Ducks D, who were playing great on D all series up until that point. Dan Jones would pitch the rest of the way for the Ducks and Sean Conroy relieved Wildrick for the Bombers, his third appearance in the series. Both pitchers were locked in and would shut each offense down the rest of the way, both striking out 5 guys each. The score would stay 6-5 and the Bombers would hold onto win their first championship. Congrats to both teams on a hard fought and competitive series, and congrats to Bombers manager/player Rick DiJohn for winning his first championship in his 22nd year in the league. While Joe Slater and Zach Agan came up clutch all playoffs, playoff MVP went to Sean Conroy for pitching in games 3,4, and 5, shutting down the Ducks when Bombers needed it the most. And for the no hitter he had in the semi finals also.

Thanks to everyone in the league and all teams for a great, competitive season under non-ideal circumstances. See everyone next year, and stay safe this off-season!

Mets win record 5th 18+ CDMABL Championship!!!!

The Mets have won their 5th championship after beating the Ducks three games to one in a best of five championship series. The Mets also beat the Ducks three games to one in a best of five the previous year in 2018. And just like last year, the series was tightly contested and emotional, with both teams going all out for a championship.

Game 1 featured Sean Conroy on the mound for the Mets (who struck out 20 Bluejays in his last outing), vs Matt Simoni for the Ducks. Simoni was the Ducks only available pitcher due to an all hands on deck approach vs the Blacksox in the semi-finals, the Ducks burned all of their main starters in game 5 the previous day. Mets took a 1-0 lead early, with both pitchers cruising until a rain delay happened mid-way through the game. After the delay, Sean Conroy was replaced by his brother Brian Conroy, and pitched equally as well. After the delay, the Mets got the jump on Simoni with a key RBI hit by defensive specialist Justin Pangburn, who was key to a 3 run inning making it 4-0. Mets would end up holding on, with the Conroy brothers combining for a no-hitter and 9 Ks against a tired and depleted Ducks team coming off a hard fought semi-finals. For game 2, the Mets would send their long time ace Joe Slater to the hill to face off against the Ducks go-to playoff pitcher Johnny Mancini, who was pitching on short rest for the entire playoffs. Both pitchers would battle, a few key hits including a 2 RBI single by Dan Ciarmiello and a few clutch hits by the Ducks would send it to extra innings. The Ducks would put in their planned game 3 starter and ace Dan Jones, while the Mets put in their planned game 3 starter Darren Conte. In the bottom of the 10th, Ducks would break through and Matt Simoni would go on to hit a walk-off single, continuing the Ducks incredible playoff run filled with clutch hits and walk-offs (Brian Hoffman won the semi-finals in game 5 vs the blackox with a walk-off home run). The Ducks were a tired team after a 5 game battle with the Blacksox, but still had some gas left in the tank as they took game 2. For game 3, Dan Jones (who relieved in game 2), would be back on the mound the next day, while the Mets opted to go with Dan Ciarmiello instead of Conte. Ciarmiello left after a couple of pitches, and the Mets would use a number of players who were not their usual starters to get through game 3, and eventually they would go back to Joe Slater, who pitched the day before. The Ducks were up 3-0 in the 5th, and thats when the Mets finally started to get to Jones. Ciarmiello had a double, Pangburn had another key 2 RBI single, and Franco ended up with 4 hits in the game. Fatigue was getting to the Ducks pitchers and the Mets capitalized. The Mets ended up talking a 6-3 lead after exploding in the 5th, and held on to win. Game 4, Sean Conroy was set to start, but did not feel ready to go, so Brian Conroy would get the start for the Mets. The Ducks would once again go back to Johnny Mancini, who was once again pitching on short rest. The worn down Ducks team who were fighting through playing a ton of games in a short time span with all their pitchers constantly on short rest, were competitive in the first three games, but finally did not have enough left in the tank. The Mets broke it open after yet another Pangburn clutch 2 RBI single, and the exclamation mark was a triple by regular season MVP front runner Greg Jette, which hit off the Shuttleworth deep right center wall. Mets would go onto win 11-2, with Joe Slater coming in to finish the bottom of the 7th, in what could be his last pitching appearance ever in the 18 division and for the Mets. Slater will go down as one of the greatest pitchers in league history, winning countless playoff games and leading his team for years, closing out a 5th championship would be the most fitting and perfect way to close out a over decade long career. And this will be the way Mike Neumann closes out his 18 division career dating back to 2004 when he started with the Red Stars, Joe's primary catcher who won 5 championships along with him, has made the decision to go out on top. Neumann had a great playoff run, crushing the ball in every playoff game. As did the entire Mets lineup, who during the regular season were carried by Greg Jette's one man show offense, the Mets had a very balanced attack in the playoffs where the entire lineup was contributing offensively. And as usual, the Mets pitching and defense were lights out. The Ducks competed hard, and have a great young team who put up record numbers in runs for and against (and even had an all-time best starting record of 18-1), and they will only get better every year. The Ducks just happened to run into a team on absolute fire, the Mets won their last 10 games in a row to win the #1 seed (which proved to be huge in avoiding the  strong #3 team second round), and proceeded to go 8-2 in the playoffs. In what could be the last year of their dynasty, it was a long, dominant run no one will forget. The Mets and the Blacksox have combined to win championships the last 8 years in a row dating back to 2012.

The Mets have won their 5th championship (2013, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019) in the 18+ CDMABL, the league dates back to 1994 (formerly TCL 1994-2002, and NABA 2003-2007), breaking the tie they had with the Colonie Knights ( 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2011), making them the greatest dynasty team in the history of the league.

The 2019 18+ division CDMABL will conclude it's season this Sunday with the All Star game at Dutchmen. Anyone can come out for HR derby who plays in the league ( $10 buy in, half goes to the winner, half to the league), or just come out and support a great league with great players (and a few great players who mentioned above may be their last time on the field for our league)

All star game - Sun, Aug 25 - Team Ducks, 4 Team Rockies 3 (Dutchmen) [see rosters from earlier post- will be updated]

HR Derby winner - Will Devrue (Rockies)

All Star Game MVP - Dan Jones (Ducks) - 2-run HR, 2 IP

2019 CDMABL 18+ division championship preview - Ducks vs Mets

The four time CDMABL championship Mets look to break the all time record of four championships (also shared with the Colonie Knights), to be the only team to win 5 championships in the league all-time (dating back to 1994). The Mets offense is led by Greg Jette, who is the MVP front runner for the 2019 season, Joe Slater, who takes his game to another level every year in the playoffs, and other league veterans such as John Fiorita and Dan Ciarmiello. Dating back to the regular season, the Mets have been on fire, winning 15 of their last 16, including winning 10 in a row (including beating the Ducks twice in the last two games of their season, ruining the Ducks chance to have an all-time regular season best record after starting 18-1), all while surpassing the Ducks to take first place as both teams finished 18-3 but Mets had the 2-1 series head to head advantage. Sean Conroy will start game 1 for the Mets, who in his last start of the playoffs second round, struck out a league record 20 batters. The Ducks come in looking to ride the momentum of Brian Hoffman's semi-final series winning walk-off home run, beating the Blacksox in game 5, which was one of the biggest hits ever in the league in a huge game. The Ducks deep and well balanced offense, pitching staff and defense look to cool off the Mets this year, after the Mets beat them in last year's championship series 3 games to 1. Matt Simoni is rumored to start game 1 for the Ducks, as the Ducks in game 5 vs the Blacksox threw almost every single one of their starting pitchers to grind out a series win. It is a rematch of two evenly matched teams which should produce another classic CDMABL 18 division championship series, be sure to look at the schedule below and come out and support the league, and watch some great baseball!

Mets win 4th CDMABL 18+ Championship!!!

The Mets led by playoff & regular season MVP Joe Slater have won their 4th championship after beating the Ducks three games to one in a best of five championship series. This matchup was predicted to be tightly contested, and did not disappoint. Similar to the 2017 championship series, which was arguably the best championship in league history, each game was a hard fought battle between two highly talented teams and pitching staffs (except for one blowout, also similar to the 2017 championship).

Game 1 Mets won 2-1, and all 3 runs came in the 5th inning. Ducks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 5th with a Mike Bushee RBI single, and the Mets responded with a 2 RBI single by Ryan Gauck in the bottom of the 5th. Game 2 was the blowout, and Mets MVP Joe Slater pitched a 1-hit shutout in a 12-0 win. Game 3 the Ducks fought back to stay alive, with veteran Dan Jones stepping up and picking up the win, and Ducks held onto to a 4-2 win after the Mets rallied late. This game was heated at times with two very competitive teams fighting for the title. Game 4 the Mets brought back Joe Slater to pitch, who started 3 days prior, and who also pitched in relief 1 day prior. The Mets quickly jumped on top in the 1st, putting across 3 runs with a Greg Jette RBI double and Joe Slater 2 RBI single. The Ducks pitcher John Mancini would then settle down and not allow a run the rest of the game. The Ducks rallied late in the 5th with a 2 RBI double by Mike Bushee. In the 6th, the Ducks had a runner on 2nd with no outs looking to tie the game. A hit up the middle led to the runner on 2nd advancing to 3rd, but a baserunning mistake led to an out for the player who got the hit. With 1 out and a player on 3rd base and the infield in, a ball was hit to 3rd base, just out of reach of the 3rd baseman, but the SS knocked it down and threw the player out at 1st, and the runner from 3rd did not score. The Mets then eventually got out of the jam. In the bottom of the 7th, Ducks got John Mancini on first with a walk with no outs, and the next batter hit one to the SS, who tossed it to 2nd base, who then tried to turn the double play but the runner going to 1st beat the throw. In one of the most controversial big game calls in league history, the ump called the runner out at first because of an aggressive slide into 2nd by Mancini. The Ducks now had two outs instead of a runner on base with one out. The Mets ended up closing it out, Slater pitching a complete game and finishing the championship series pitching in three of the four games, picking up 2 of the 3 wins. Slater also finished the playoffs 3-0 with only 2 runs allowed, all unearned, and winning playoff MVP.

The 18+ division dates back to 1994 (formerly TCL 1994-2002 and NABA 2003-2007), and the Mets now have 4 total championships (2013, 2014, 2015, 2018) and have passed Graffiti's (1995, 1996, 1999), Titans (1997, 1998, 2000), and Blacksox ( 2012, 2016, 2017) for all-time championships, and have tied the Colonie Knights (2004, 2005, 2007, 2011) with 4. If Mets win one more, they will have the record of all time championships with 5. The Mets and Blacksox have combined to win the last 7 years in a row. Congrats to the Mets on their 4th championship, and congrats to Ducks on a hard fought series, and congrats to all the teams in the CDMABL for another highly competitive and fun year of baseball. Well see everyone next summer!

2018 CDMABL Championship series - Mets vs Ducks

The 2018 CDMABL championship series is set, after a first round bye the Mets swept the Rockies to advance to their 6th championship series. Mets have won three championships, and are looking to add another to tie the all-time league record of 4 set by the Colonie Knights. The Mets have been winning with their veteran hitters Greg Jette, John Fiorita, Joe Slater and others, and with a great pitching staff which includes Slater, Justin Brooks, Zach Andi and Sean Conroy. And speaking of great pitching, the Ducks led by Jim Bonaparte have made their 2nd Championship series, looking for their first championship ever in the CDMABL. The Ducks in the first round beat Chatham 1-0, lost 1-0, and down 1-0 in the 6th inning of the deciding game, came back with some clutch hitting to win the series. They then went on to sweep the back-to-back champion and #1 seed Blacksox, once again led by their dominant pitching and great defense. Their staff includes Dan Zeglen, who threw 2 complete game shutouts so far in the playoffs, and also John Mancini, Dan Jones and Ricky Umholtz. The championship series schedule is below opening at Bleeker Friday night, then continuing at A diamond this weekend, for those who love good baseball should come out and support the league, should be a tightly contested great series!!!

Blacksox win 2017 CDMABL championship! ( 2nd in a row and 3rd overall)

In what could be one of the best championship games in league history, the Blacksox defeated the Mets 1-0 in the deciding game 5 to win their second championship in a row. In a series where every game was close except for game 4, this could go down as one of the closest and tightly contested series ever played in the 18 division, where one play could have decided a championship. For game 5, Mets would send Zach Andi to the hill to face off against the Blacksox Steve Zimring, and both pitchers had it going. Both pitchers shut down each opposing offense, there were so few hits that the game lasted around an hour and fifteen minutes. Mets were threatening to score with a runner on third late in the game, where a soft ground ball was hit and on a tough play the Blacksox third baseman threw it in the dirt where Blacksox first baseman Joe Borowski made a run saving, and potentially series saving tough short hop scoop. This play seemed to energize the Blacksox, who after the 5th had to face the Mets ace Joe Slater who came in for Zach Andi. Also, the Blacksox put in Joe Butler, who had it dialed up in a huge spot going for a series win. With the score still being 0-0 in the top of the 7th, Slater quickly retired two Blacksox players to get two quick outs. He then walked a player, then hit a player, to put two men on. In what could end up being the biggest and most clutch hit in league playoff history, Justin Hopkins came to the plate and crushed an outside pitch opposite field off the wall, scoring the first run of the game. In the bottom of the 7th, Mike Neumann singled to get on, but no other Mets could get him in, and Butler closed the door for the championship win. In a series filled with great defense, pitching and clutch hitting, the 2017 playoff matchup between the Mets and Blacksox could go down as one of the best ever in the 18 division. Joe Borowski was named series MVP for carrying the Blacksox offense the whole way throughout the playoffs. Congratulations for the Blacksox for winning a second championship in a row, and third overall. They have now tied the Mets in total championships, and both teams now only trail by 1 for the all time championship record of 4 by the Colonie Knights. It was a great 2017 season for the 18 division, every team was competitive and battled every game. Thanks again to everyone for another successful year in the 18+ CDMABL! All Star game is Sunday at Shuttleworth, see everyone then!

2017 Championship Preview - Blacksox vs Mets

The 2012 & 2016 CDMABL champion Blacksox face off against the 2013-2015 CDMABL champion Mets in the 2017 championship series, starting Friday, August 11th at 7pm at Dutchman Field in Guilderland. The last time these two teams faced off in the championship series in 2015, the Mets came back down from a 2-0 game deficit to win 3 games in a row to win their 3rd championship in a row. Blacksox are looking to avenge the 2015 series loss and to win their second league title in a row. If Blacksox win, they will equal the Mets 3 league championships, and if the Mets win they will tie the all-time championship record set by the Colonie Knights, which is 4. There is a lot on the line regarding these two accomplished franchise's legacies. Expected starters for Friday are Mets ace Joe Slater vs Blacksox ace Tom Hopkins. Should be another classic matchup, come out and watch some great postseason baseball in the capital region!

Mets CDMABL Champions 2013, 2014, 2015

Mets Three-Peat!!!! Come back down 2-0 in the championship series to beat the Black Sox in 5!

The Mets, who were once down 2-0 in the championship series, won today at Dutchman field in Guilderland, beating the Blacksox 8-1, and taking down their third consecutive CDMABL 18+ Division championship! The 18+ division dates back to 1994 (formerly TCL 1994-2002 and NABA 2003-2007), and this is the first time any team has won 3 championships in a row, and the first time a team has come back to win a series down two games to zero. The Mets have now 3 total championships (2013, 2014, 2015) and have tied Graffiti's (1995, 1996, 1999), Titans (1997, 1998, 2000) for all-time championships, and are now only behind the Colonie Knights (2004, 2005, 2007, 2011) by 1.

The Mets were lead by series MVP Scott Buniak, who hit over .500, had a .700 OBP, and had 8 RBIs in the championship series. Greg Jette also contributed with 2 HRs in the series, and Joe Slater pitched 15 innings and gave up only 3 runs, zero earned. Every Met contributed to this year's championship team, and were the most resilient team of the 3 championship teams fighting back from 2-0 in the series, including in a must win game having to face one of the league's best pitchers Tom Hopkins from the Black sox, on the road to winning it all. Congrats to the Mets, and also the Blacksox, two great teams who had incredible seasons. Pictures will be posted soon! Thanks to all teams for another fun and successful year in the CDMABL!

All-Star Game Recap

At Dutchman field on Monday night, the 18 division CDMABL all-star game was played, with Team Slater facing off against Team Burek, a great match-up of the league's best players. But before the game, a HR Derby took place where Gary Bosko from the 33 division Mets team would show the 18 division how it's done, crushing 9 HRs in the 2nd round to blow away the competition and take home the prize money. Greg Jette from the 18 division Mets would once again finish 2nd, to another player who was locked in, reminiscent of the performance Mike Phillips put on last year.

After the show Gary put on, the All-star game would start off with a bang also. Evan Yacowenia from the Black Sox would lead-off the game with a first-pitch homerun, which would set the tone for Team Burek. After some early run support, and a run scored by Team Slater, pitcher Jon Neil from the Rockies would take over the game and night, throwing the full 9 innings for team Burek, allowing only 1 run and 5 hits. Jon would lead team Burek to a 6-1 win over Team Slater, in a game filled with great pitching and great defense. Brady Farkas and Dan Jones also threw well and a few scoreless innings for Team Slater, while Jason Koney helped out Team Burek on offense with a double, helping his teammate Neil with some run support, and with a number of late game walks and singles Team Burek would pull away. But the night belonged to Jon Neil, who was the clear-cut MVP of the night, pitching a gem against some of the league's best hitters. Congrats to Jon, Team Burek and all the all-stars for a great night of baseball!

Mets 2014 CDMABL Champions!

The Mets won their second straight CDMABL Championship, becoming the first 18+ division team to repeat since 2008. The Mets capped an impressive run in which they went undefeated for nearly three straight months. After losing 2 of their first 3 games to the East Greenbush Brewers, the Mets went an amazing 24 straight games without a loss, including sweeping the playoffs, avenging their early season losses to the Brewers in the Championship Series. Pitchers Joe Slater and Brady Farkas were named Co-MVP's of the Playoffs, both going 3-0 with a sub 1.00 ERA. Including playoffs, Slater went 10-0 on the season with Farkas 9-1. It should also be noted that longtime Met Kevin Manilenko turned in a gutsy complete game performance in game 2 of the championship series, keeping the hard-hitting Brewers off balance with a heavy dose of breaking balls.

Offensively in the playoffs, the Mets were lead by Greg Jette, Nate Novak, and Carlos Maldonado, who came on strong at the end of the year after recovering from multiple knee surgeries.

In the regular season, the Mets offense was led by Chris Nyman (.436), Greg Jette (.429, 14 RBI), Mike Neumann (.380, 11 RBI), John Fiorita (.351, 16 RBI), and Bret Samboy (.309, 17 RBI).

Congrats to the Mets, and to every team for making the 2014 CDMABL season a fun and successful one!

This week in CDMABL Baseball

On Wednesday night, the Diamondbacks would once again take on the Latham Ford Bombers. The result would be the same as the previous night, as the Diamondbacks would go onto win easily, 9-2. The game was tied 0-0 going into the 4th, at first it was a pitching duel between the Bombers Andrew Wildrick and the D'Backs Joe Ullman. But the D'Backs hitters would adjust and start driving the ball opposite field and put up a 5 spot in the 4th. The hitting was led by Chris Bonaparte's rbi single, 2 hits by Ryan Williams, and a long double by Ruffinen and Simoni. Brian Hoffman also contributed with a line drive single and Steve Mohr also had a RBI hit. The 5th inning scoring burst would be all they needed with Ullman throwing 5 scoreless innings. It would be too little, too late in the 7th when Luis Gonzalez on the Bombers hit a bomb, solo shot homerun. Next up for the D'Backs, this Wednesday they square off with the Black Sox in a battle of two top tier teams.

Bombers would play again on Sunday, and similar to the 4th inning of the D'Backs game, they would suffer an even worse single inning implosion in the 7th inning vs the Devils. Tied 2-2 in the 7th, a Devils player hit a ball in the infield with the bases loaded that hit a lip and shot into the outfield. The flood gates would open at this point, and the Devils would go onto win 11-2. Devils would play another game as part of a doubleheader, and would once again win and beat the hot Brewers team, 5-4. But the Brewers would bounce back to beat the Defending Champs, the Mets, 5-4.

In other action, the Blacksox would stay red hot and sweep the Bulldogs in a doubleheader at dutchman. Other games on Sunday included Dodgers going to Chatham for a doubleheader, and Mets playing the A's, which will be reported on in the next writeup.

D'backs stay hot, and Bombers win in a wild 7th inning

The Diamondbacks went to 3-0 behind the complete game 2 hit shut out with 12k's from Jeremy Canniff, who was making his season debut. The D'Backs managed only 1 hit themselves in the winning effort, a lead off hit from Steve Mohr who would score, which became the games only run in the 1st inning on a rbi ground out from Brian Hoffman after a perfect sac bunt by Chris Bonaparte.  Jeremy was also backed by good defense with a diving catch in left by Andy McCauley, which saved a tying run with 2 outs. Final, D'Backs 1, Pirates 0. Next up the Bombers again wed night at Bob moore.

Bombers swept their doubleheader this Sunday, beating the A's 12-1 in game 1, and in game 2 vs the Dodgers, Bombers went into the top of the 7th with a 5-3 lead. They would have a late inning collapse and gave up 8 runs in the 7th, only to come back in the bottom of the 7th to put up 6 runs for a 12-11 win, in a crazy final inning which ended with a Matt Gatta walk-off 2 RBI hit. This is already the Bombers 2nd walk-off win of the young season. Other highlights included a deep shot homerun by Jim Tino of the Dodgers, and a great diving catch by Dodger's centerfield Jason Koney. And most likely the 1st of one of the few times in the league this has happened, Bombers pitcher Spencer Marcus earned both wins of the doubleheader, pitching a complete game in the 1st game, and coming in for relief in the 2nd game. Next up Dodgers travel to Chatham for a doubleheader on Sunday.

Other scores from the weekend, Bulldogs lose to the Blacksox and Devils in close games, 4-1 and 5-1.

Diamondbacks improve to 2-0

Diamondbacks move to to 2-0 with a defeat of the Bombers 8-2 on Wednesday night at Bob Moore, backed by a complete game 3-hitter for Joe Ullman, who also had 9k's. To lead the offensive attack, Mike Ruffinen went 3-3 with 2 SBs, Brian Hoffman had a single and double, while Chris Bonaparte had a RBI single and a walk, and a long double was hit by Matt Simoni. Steve Mohr also singled and had 2 SBs. The Diamondbacks had a good team effort with some nice defense as well. Next up for the D'Backs is their first game versus the expansion Pirates on Mothers Day!

CDMABL 1st weekend results

The 2014 CDMABL season began on a chilly weekend, but was filled with some great baseball. The season opened at Bob Moore on Friday night with the Diamondbacks taking on the new Dodgers team. The game would open in the 1st with a controversial call at home plate after a run seemingly scored for the Dodgers, the player was called out due to interference by a Dodgers player. After this, the game would go the Diamondbacks way, with a good pitching performance by Joe Ullman, who went 4 innings giving up 2 hits and 2 walks and had 6 k's. The Diamondbacks offense was led by Matt Simoni, who crushed a double, while the rest of the offense put up a barrage of singles and walks. The Diamondbacks won 11-1, and the Dodgers look to settle in and bounce back next Sunday.

On Saturday, the Mets squared off against the Blacksox, a rematch of last year's championship series. This time Joe Slater would pitch against former Colonie Knight Leo Primeau. Both pitchers would do well, but Slater was dominant and threw a complete game, 3-hit shuout. All the runs were scored in the 2nd inning, led by Greg Jette's deep double, and Jimmy Rodgers 2 RBI single. The final would be 4-0, and next time these teams meet up it will once again be a battle of two great teams.

To finish out the weekend, the Bombers would travel out to Chatham to take on the new, young, fresh out of legion team, the Columbia Pirates, in a double header. In the 1st game, the Bombers would go up 2-0 quick, but in the 2nd inning, similar to the Dodgers game, there was a controversial runner interference call that took back a run that would have put the Bombers up 3-0 with the potential to break the game open. This changed the momentum, and the Pirates would mount a comeback led by their clean up hitter Brian Gauthier, who had 2 doubles. The game would end up a 12-3 final with the Pirates on top. The 2nd game the Bombers once again would jump out to a 2-0 lead, and once again gave up the lead with some costly errors and well-timed hits, and would go down 5-3. But in the bottom of the 7th, down 5-3, the Bombers would start a comeback, with a walk, fielder's choice and a single by Robert Wise. Bombers clean-up hitter Luis Gonzalez would single in the tying run, and in the last at-bat, new Bomber Eric Solomon would drive in the winning run on a hard hit single, and the Bombers would end up winning 6-5.

The CDMABL has gotten off to a great start, lets keep the good baseball going! Look to the schedule to see upcoming games.

2014 Season is about to begin!

The 2014 CDMABL season is set to kick off this Friday, May 2nd, when the Diamondbacks take on the brand new team the Dodgers at 730pm @ Bob Moore in Scotia. The Diamondbacks are the Indians team from last year under a new name, run by Jim Bonaparte. Jim has joined forces with his son Chris, who also brought over players from the now folded Tigers, to make the Diamondbacks even stronger this year. These players include Jason Blond, Steve Mohr, and Steve Hiller, in addition to other strong pickups the Diamondbacks have made. And the Dodgers are a new, young team run by Chris Meister, who brings in a team with a lineup filled with solid hitting.

The following day, Satuday May 3rd 10am @ Bob Moore (UPDATE: game day and time for Brewers/Bulldogs TBD) features the always solid Brewers vs the up and coming Bulldogs, who were real hot at the end of last year, led by great young pitching from players such as Paulo Audio, and good offense from players like Ricky Parker and Chris Murray. The Brewers look to improve with key additions such as adding former Colonie Knight RJ Laurin. This game is followed at 1230pm by a rematch of last year's classic championship series, which went 5 games and was filled with overall amazing pitching, defense and clutch homeruns, the Black Sox vs The Mets. These teams are full of perennial all-stars, with the Black Sox adding former Knight pitching great Leo Primeau and the Mets adding Carlos Maldanado, who replaces 17 year veteran and now retired Erik Miller.

On Sunday, May 4th, the Latham Ford Bombers square off vs another new and young team, the Columbia Pirates, in a doubleheader in Chatham starting at 10am. The Bombers looked to bolster their offense by adding former Colonie Knights Eric and Jeff Solomon this off-season, and also free agent Bryan Byrnes. The Columbia Pirates look to do damage this year playing many of their games on their home field in Chatham. And finally, The Devils play the A's at 11am @ Bob Moore Sunday afternoon. The Devils look to improve on a good season last year with additions such as Kevin Burr, while the A's look to continue a great offensive season from last year by adding players such as Ryan Parmer to an already stacked offensive lineup.

Every team plays on opening weekend, so try to come out and catch a game or two this weekend, it's going to be a fun and competitve year for the CDMABL! Please check the 2014 schedule link of the website for all of May's schedule, June and July will be posted soon.
