SBI is following the updated USA bat standard instituted by USA youth baseball in 2017 for 2018 season. In order to ensure the safety of our children the new labeled “USA” baseball bats will be required by all participants (except tball) 

• SBI will provide USA standard bats: each team will have these bats available to use during games and practices 

• If you decide to use your own bats they must be labeled with the “USA baseball” label

• If you have purchased a bat that does not have this USA label it cannot be used during SBI games or practices. 

* Bats should not be wider than 2 5/8" 

The new standard ensures bats act like a “wood bat” which has less “bounce” which will be safer for fielders and pitchers.

Dear Parents,

My name is Alex Skandalis and I am a co-owner of the New Jersey Sports Assigning Bureau.  You know our Company as the group who provides umpires for your local baseball and/or softball league.  I write to you today with a unique opportunity for you to continue your love of baseball and/or softball through officiating.  Soon, your child(ren) will graduate out of youth baseball/softball, what a great way to stay involved, enjoy a game you have followed for years and continue your involvement in your local/surrounding league.  No experience is necessary initially, but you will have to sign up and attend a several week introductory class (one night per week), taught at a local high school in your county of choice beginning in January.  Training, uniforms and equipment will cost about $350, but game fees typically range from $50-$60 a game, meaning you will make back your initial investment in no time.  Umpires of all ages (must be 18+) have used this “hobby” to supplement their income, continue their love for the game and gain valuable exercise during the Spring and Summer months.

Our Mission

SBI and its programs are organized and operated exclusively for educational purposes or amateur sports competition of our youth.  We create a recreational environment to teach sportsmanship, teamwork and skills specific to baseball.  None of the net earnings will benefit of any shareholder or individual.  None of our activities will carry on propaganda, attempt to influence legislation or participation or intervention in a political campaign on behalf of any candidate for a public office.
