    NEW RULE FOR JUCO PLAYERS
September 23, 2009 The NCAA has come up with a new rule that will exclude JUCO players from playing on a good number of summer league teams including the Rome Thunderbolts. Any JUCO player "cannot" play for a summer organization that has a coach(head or assistant) that is coaching at a four year school. The reason being is that the NCAA is afraid that the four year coach will try and lure JUCO players into enrolling at their college or university. This leaves players in a tough spot when looking for a summer league to play in. It's also difficult for any summer league teams that are looking to recruit a few local JUCO players. Players and summer team recruiters beware that the NCAA will be looking for teams that are breaking this rule. The Thunderbolts want to apologize to the players that they've recruited who went to JUCO schools. Good luck to you in finding a home to play.

    MALLEY TO PITCH FOR BOLTS
September 18, 2009 Niagara University freshman pitcher Ryan Malley has agreed to pitch for the Rome Thunderbolts next summer. He was also named to the 2nd team Class B New York State All Stars as well. Ryan is a welcome addition to the Bolts squad!

ILACQUA AGREES TO PLAY FOR BOLTS
September 14, 2009 University of Albany sophomore infielder Joe Ilacqua has agreed to play for the Rome Thunderbolts in 2010. Ilacqua, in limited time at Albany last season played in seven games and collected two RBI's. As a high school senior, Joe was a three-year letter-winner at Cicero-North Syracuse. He was team captain his senior year. Joe recorded a .392 career batting average, including a .414 average as a senior. He recorded 71 RBI, 18 doubles, five triples and five home runs in three seasons at C-NS.. Ilacqua was a first-team all-league honoree and was named to the All-CNY third team as a senior. The Bolts are pleased to have Joe in the organization!

September 7, 2009 Oneonta State sophomore outfielder Cody Hitt has joined the Thunderbolts organization for the 2010 season. Hitt, a left handed stick, was among the team leaders last season in many catagories including batting average(.309), runs(34), hits(34), RBI's(21), doubles(6) and stolen bases(15). He led the team with five triples. The Bolts are very happy to have Cody be a part of the team.

    THANK YOU!!!
July 29, 2009 This summer's Rome Thunderbolts baseball season was one of the best I've had in a long, long time. The comradarie between the players was second to none. They also seemed to get along and show respect to their coaches as well. This is why I think we were very successful. Even though we went down in the finals, 22-9 is a very good season. We should all be proud of that.

This season also saw a significant rise in attendance. Last season in eleven home dates, we drew 1,108 fans. This season in twelve home dates(at DeLutis 1) we drew 1,818 or just over 151 fans a game. And that's with the crummy summer we had.

There are so many thank yous to give out, I hope I don't forget anyone. First of all, I'd like to thank Rome's Public Safety Commissioner Jim Masucci, Dave Townsend, Roann Destito, Mayor Brown, the Rome Chamber of Commerce, the staff at DeLutis Field, the Rome Cal Ripken and Lee Little Leagues, the Rome Capitol Theatre, the Rome Elks Club, the Rome Sentinel, Oldiez 96, Abbey Road, Genie Services, City Hall, the owners of the Griffiss Park Suites, the Boyz From Italy, my wife Betty, my son Bobby("please return the foul ball"), Mr. McCowat, Mr. Melioris, all of the parents, players and coaches and last but not least, our corporate sponsor the Rome Federal Credit Union for which there would be no Rome Thunderbolts organization if it weren't for their hard work and dedication.

If I forgot anyone, I'm truly sorry. Thank you once again for a tremendous season. I will never forget it! For most of you, I hope to see you soon. For the rest of you, don't forget about us. Thanks again.....Ray DiBrango, President & General Manager
